Joe you are growing in popularity man. Proud to say I've been subscribed for over 3 years now so I've seen you grow from less than 3k subs. You're doing good man. All your videos are well edited and shot. You don't act crazy or make crazy titles that are clickbait. You're honest and real which in a lot of these RUclips channels that do fishing stuff, is very rare. Those guys use their subscriber numbers to get free trips, gear and special things then act like they pay for it all themselves which everyone knows is not true. Granted you are sponsored by some companies, but you aren't in Mexico promoting some resort and acting like you've been friends with the owners for years and hang out all the time, wmeanwhile forgetting that just 5 minutes previously we saw you meeting the owner and having to introduce yourself to them. Like what?

My nephew is a charter fishing captain here in Florida near Tampa. End of January he was using a sabki rig to catch pinfish for bait. He had a couple of small pinfish on his line reeling them up and suddenly his pole doubled over. He had 6 lb braid on. Way over kill for the rig, but he also uses that rod for inshore fishing with shrimp. You know how it goes. He fights whatever it is up and then sees he has a big red grouper on the line. He finally got it up and it was a 12lb red hiding out near some oyster beds 20 ft from a seawall and a beach in about 40ft of water. The grouper swallowed the top pinfish and he was guthooked essentially from inside and then of course he got wrapped up in the other hooks agter throwing the other fish off. He was psyched. He had a client and his son on so they were psyched too. They wanted to stay there and fish, not realizing how rare that is.

Great video Joe, more people need to show the real price of these fish and talk more about the market. It would be nice for the buyers to develop a better domestic market. The fact that many "greenies" keep using the word endangered and depleted when they speak of the Bluefin I think hurts the ability to market such a great fish. The reality is that the Bluefin is now the poster child for how fishery management can work vs. keeps saying we should protect them. When I was a kid in the early 80's we got $2.75-$3.50 then in the late 80's-90's getting $14-$20+ was a great price. The best I ever did was the last day of the quota in 92 we got $33k for a 2 fish that day now were back to about 1983 prices.

Yellowfin was the preferred tuna back in the day. It wasn't until the Japanese demand for the giant bluefin took off that the prices went crazy.

    • @captpepin
      @captpepin 4 месяца назад

The economics have changed unlike in the 80’s & 90’5 the majority of US caught Bluefin are actually sold domestically the market in Japan has softened for our fish. Yellowfin in the US is still highly preferred mostly because of lack of knowledge. Consumers and some restaurant owners don’t understand the fish is NOT endangered and actually needs to be celebrated as fishery management actually working. Also US consumer and Restaurants need to be educated on how to prepare the different cuts of meat on these fish.

Never landed a Tuna {aku} over 25lbs but we where in Hawaii in the early 90's with a Bass boat : 15'6" Champion running 5 lines with a 70hp Evinrude outboard and 50gal fuel cell and epirb we live baited tuna using the needle method. We mainly target Marlin had a few hook ups and landed 1x 180lb blue and 1x 102lb sail fish . plenty of Mahi Mahi and Ono or known as Wahoo the locals thought we where crazy , but our boat unlike theirs was unsinkable wood frame and fiberglass and foam injected , we where safe and never went out if there where white caps and our runs to the grounds where never over 1 mile and with in sight of the island .

I didn't know this... " Bluefin Tunas are endothermic, which means that they utilize metabolic heat to elevate and maintain regional body temperatures that are warmer than the ambient seawater temperature." Not truly "warm blooded" but close. Also, these big fish in 60' of water is crazy. Cheers! 🤠

When I was a mate and captain back in the day we would sell our fish mostly king fish, dolphin and bottom fish direct to the public as much as we could nothing to right home about. Sounds like those of us who raise cattle on small acreage as in 50 acres down, and even though that is a big portion of those who sell cattle.
We get less per pound than the whole chain from us to the feed stores hay growers the sale barn the feed lots and the slaughter houses to retailers.
Where we get average of a $1.00 a lbs live weight, and then you go to grocery stores.
They're selling cheap hamburger that's full of filler, excessive fat, and hydrated by whatever means they use is going for over $7.00 pee lbs.
Sack of range cubes grain mixture supplement is nearly $ 14.00 dollars a bag and average 1000 lb cow gets 5 lbs a day pretty much year round.
Because they're either nursing a calf, or pregnant, and in between you still have to keep their weight up so they can carry the calf whenever they do get pregnant..
Hay is anywhere from $45.00 , to $85. 00 a roll and five 1000 lb cows can go through that in a matter of a few days if it's cold sometimes more, because they waste 25% of it.
And this happens even if you Manger feed them or pasture feed.
So by the time you take one to market you've spent more than you make, and this doesn't include labor everyday, because you've got cattle you've got plenty to do.
Kinda like owning a boat, by the time you maintain it, fuel it pay for insurance, and slip fees
It's hard to show justification unless you can knock part of it off your taxes.
Only tax benefit we get is reducing our property taxes, small percentage of fed taxes.
But basically if you apply all the labor the other miscellaneous cost you'd just give up that comes out of pocket that you loose the receipt on because most fade until you can't read them to see what they are if you keep them in your wallet couple days

You are commercial fishing, which I guess goes to my question. If a person was to charter a boat to go hunt for bluefin. Is the catch under a contract with the boat to sell it or is there the options to take the meat home? Hands down bluefin tuna is the best and most expensive fish that most Americans will never get the chance to eat. And is there enough meat off the collar and cheeks that you actually get to taste it before it flys off to Japan?.

Ur math is way wrong. 10ft=120" and the fish was 119"

So you made 900 bucks basically off that fish! Don’t seem like much at all. I allways thought you would get like 30-100k per fish and some of the big ones a million dollars.

WoW, I never knew the F#@King when you say the fishermen get 10% or under, that's kinda shocking to me? But it seems a
bunch of other folks are getting a chunk & I'm guessing they consider themselves as "entitled" somehow? I'm sure that some
of them deserve a cut but somehow getting 1/10th of a fish that you caught just doesn't seem like justice to me...
but I'm dumb & I'd almost say leave em' in the sea? be safe out there fellas, peace

Possibly you've found a way to profit from fishing with this channel. It should continue to improve with time. If ya really want subs go to a strip club to find some bikini to reel them in. Just don't wear the bikini yourself or I'm out! lol

Yall should band together and stop selling your fish until they start paying yall a fair price. If you aren’t making money it isn’t worth doing IMO
