Although there is a difference in resources between two countries, it's not a zero some game as many would like to think, where we have a disproportionate advantage. And frankly they have optimally built their force by focusing on absolute necessary capabilities. Also there are few advantage that the PAF has. Firstly they don't have a two front scenario, so their entire force is focused on the india front, while we have to divide our fleet. Due to pakistan's width and no intention of deep strike they have focused on single engine and less ranged aircrafts which in turn have low operational cost. Due to our landmass and doctrine of regional power projection we have to maintain a large cargo and strategic airlift capability while the PAF doesn't have such power projection capability. One interesting thing to be noted that PAF also doesn't have a large helicopter lift capability which is exclusively is with the Pakistan army. Their hi mix is covered by f16 block 52 and j10 while bulk of their force is filled with a low cost and versatile Jf17 with a active production line in house. Plus with sufficient combat enablers like awacs and tankers their force design is very good in my opinion. I don't think they emphasize on self Sufficiency like we do because their policy is not of strategic autonomy like ours but complete alliance with China which provides them with advanced weapons with easy financing. Only when our domestic aerospace industry start to churn out large numbers of MK1A and Mk2, AMCA and various aerial weopanry our advantage will become apparent. Until then both forces are in effective stalemate when it comes to capability.
Given their limited resources, they are doing a much better job of maintaining a strong fighter force. F-16 - upgrading. J-10 - on loan. JF-17 - assembled within their country, and even exported. Mirage F3 - old but still operational. ..a bunch of older J-7s ..and soon J-31 plus their Saab AWACS. All in all, a good force and good planning.
Quality do matter along with numbers.. maintenance and availability is top most thing in a full fledged war.. the back channel supply and industry play the most crucial role.. they are falling in trap while trying to be smart.
They are not able to maintain their Airport and roads and you are talking about maintaining their defence equipment. Even brand new JF 17 are mostly out of service . Without US support, they can not fly F 16 as well. Remember 400 million support by US govt to maintain F 16s of Pakistan

They are exporting JF 17 block 3 after fulfilling their own requirement. They have procured and operationslised J10C. They have F16s. They also have rehearsed exercises of Chinese aircrafts augmenting their Air Defence from Pakistani airfields and modified EU type dual purpose roads.
Tbh i WANT pakistan to keep on doing what they are doing rn, i.e not looking at the economic conditions by increasing military power. It will put the Pak economy is right rope as like now, and will only allow them to have just sufficient upgrades and buying capacity for current times. Buy as India's economy grows, and india will become more developed, india will be able to afford faster and *indigenous* upgrades and weapons and vehicles. After 10-15 years, when India's economy and indigenousness will be in its advance stages, the gap between the tech and funds will be so large, that pakistan will not be able to keep up with india in anyway. One thing Pakistan Air force has been doing well ia building partnership with foreign powers JF17 with China KAAN with Turkey India is playing a tougher game of being self reliant and export powerhouse over long run. However, the execution must improve espcially the development speed.
PAF is doing this in collusion with turkey and china as both are well equipped and experienced turks have been making F16's in Turkey since dacades, chinese are well ahead in electronics, avionics and electromagnetic warfare. I think of @defence matrix as a highly knowledgeable aviation enthusiast, but somehow, I can sense his frustration due to the success and export potential of the JF-17. Even though he acknowledged in some of his own videos that Pakistan is manufacturing 54% of the aircraft at PAC (Pakistan Aeronautical Complex), with the remaining components coming from China, he still expresses discontent. This situation is similar with Gripen and Tejas.

Your point that Pakistan will replace F16 with KAAN till 2030 might nkt be valid. As the last block 52 aircraft were received in 2012 and couldn't be retired in just 18 years with so much airframe life remaining. In my opinion PAF will retire or sell off their old Block 15 F16s and try to get 2-3 squadrons of later blocks from countries like Iraq. Block 52 F16s will easily be in service of PAF till 2040 atleast and they can also get them upgraded to Block 72 standard via Turkey.

PAF is pursuing a defensive strategy against India within available limited resources. India is pursuing an offensive defense strategy in South Asia and has always allocated resources for the same Pakistan is was not and will not a threat to India if both countries resolve their pending issues and there is a high possibility of peace in South Asia. But the threat to India is from China and I will urge all Indians to focus on their biggest threat instead of misleading the public towards Pakistan just for the sake of increasing viewership.

A few million in poverty against 1.4 billion total people is nothing. Our economic growth rate is highest in the major economies, over the next few years poverty is said to decrease to single digit percent points. Pakistan having no future doesn't have anything to do with the number of poor, but the fact that no one can overcome the amount of debt it has taken. Even if you double the gdp of Pakistan, atleast 40% of the income of your country will go only to debt repayment.

One thing that you need to understand is that Pakistan never pays the full price for chinese jets. Lets take the 5 Generation fighter plane that Pakistan will get from China. China is doing all the hard work in R&D research, designing the plane and manufacturing the plane. What Pakistan gets is 5th Generation fighter plane at very reduced price and even than china doesn't ask for the full price to paid immediately. Those J-31 whatever they cost will paid over 20 years. China and Pakistan are strategic partners. Chinas aim is to keep Pakistan as close to india as possible. If doesn't matter if Pakistans economy is not doing good but the PAF will always be competitive against india. If PAF becomes weak than all of indias attention will focus on china and china doesn't want that. I hope indians understand that.

The question is how long should we compete with Pakistan. Pakistan is not India's competition at all, it is China whom we need to counter and against China we are at least 15-20 years behind in terms of advanced weapon manufacturing and technology. They are already flying 150+ 5th Gen fighters which we are still planning to develop and will take 10+ years and recently developed 5th Gen bomber H-20 like America's B2 which we cannot even detect if it is flying above us. And yes, if China is giving these kind of weapons to Pakistan then you are having trouble, a big trouble.

Defense Matrix is a good platform. It gives good information about Indian Air Force and with less bias against Pakistan Air Force.
Although there is a difference in resources between two countries, it's not a zero some game as many would like to think, where we have a disproportionate advantage.
And frankly they have optimally built their force by focusing on absolute necessary capabilities. Also there are few advantage that the PAF has.
Firstly they don't have a two front scenario, so their entire force is focused on the india front, while we have to divide our fleet. Due to pakistan's width and no intention of deep strike they have focused on single engine and less ranged aircrafts which in turn have low operational cost. Due to our landmass and doctrine of regional power projection we have to maintain a large cargo and strategic airlift capability while the PAF doesn't have such power projection capability. One interesting thing to be noted that PAF also doesn't have a large helicopter lift capability which is exclusively is with the Pakistan army.
Their hi mix is covered by f16 block 52 and j10 while bulk of their force is filled with a low cost and versatile Jf17 with a active production line in house. Plus with sufficient combat enablers like awacs and tankers their force design is very good in my opinion.
I don't think they emphasize on self Sufficiency like we do because their policy is not of strategic autonomy like ours but complete alliance with China which provides them with advanced weapons with easy financing.
Only when our domestic aerospace industry start to churn out large numbers of MK1A and Mk2, AMCA and various aerial weopanry our advantage will become apparent. Until then both forces are in effective stalemate when it comes to capability.

I think of @defence matrix as a highly knowledgeable aviation enthusiast, but somehow, I can sense his frustration due to the success and export potential of the JF-17. Even though he acknowledged in some of his own videos that Pakistan is manufacturing 54% of the aircraft at PAC (Pakistan Aeronautical Complex), with the remaining components coming from China, he still expresses discontent. This situation is similar with Gripen and Tejas.

As the last block 52 aircraft were received in 2012 and couldn't be retired in just 18 years with so much airframe life remaining. In my opinion PAF will retire or sell off their old Block 15 F16s and try to get 2-3 squadrons of later blocks from countries like Iraq. Block 52 F16s will easily be in service of PAF till 2040 atleast and they can also get them upgraded to Block 72 standard via Turkey.

I am Indian and I am ashamed at the Bakwas management by Indians. If you need to sell your old scooter and are unable to buy new one then you are at the mercy of bus service or expensive taxi service. Buying one on EMI could be better in this case. One thing that you need to understand is that Pakistan never pays the full price for chinese jets. Lets take the 5 Generation fighter plane that Pakistan will get from China. China is doing all the hard work in R&D research, designing the plane and manufacturing the plane. What Pakistan gets is 5th Generation fighter plane at very reduced price and even than china doesn't ask for the full price to paid immediately. Those J-31 whatever they cost will paid over 20 years. China and Pakistan are strategic partners. Chinas aim is to keep Pakistan as close to india as possible. If doesn't matter if Pakistans economy is not doing good but the PAF will always be competitive against india. If PAF becomes weak than all of indias attention will focus on china and china doesn't want that. I hope indians understand that.

Going for F-35 will be suicidal for India. Sure its a great short term solution but why can't they complete their 5th gen program? A wise move would be to invite or involved Lockhead Martin/Northrop Grumman/Boeing (all have experience in stealth fighter jet tech), to partner up with their AMCA program, and complete them in coming years. These are times of 'no war' and a wise decision would be to develop your owj program. Otherwise what's the difference between economically weak Pakistan and super rich India? Think

The question is how long should we compete with Pakistan. Pakistan is not India's competition at all, it is China whom we need to counter and against China we are at least 15-20 years behind in terms of advanced weapon manufacturing and technology. They are already flying 150+ 5th Gen fighters which we are still planning to develop and will take 10+ years and recently developed 5th Gen bomber H-20 like America's B2 which we cannot even detect if it is flying above us. And yes, if China is giving these kind of weapons to Pakistan then you are having trouble, a big trouble.
Pakistan will have 5th generation fighters before india even think of making prototype, while armed drones is also a sector PAF is dominating ,not to forget the electronic warfare edge that PAF displayed on 27th February 2019
AMCA's prototype has been approved already , before 2028 ends AMCA should be rolled out.
And Pakistan's EW edge won't be there for long because IAF will be operating 18 AEW&CS , 3 ISTAR & SCA by 2030.
