The greatest intro to any album at any time any genre bar none...💜
It's up there. This is all subjective but
Good times bad times is probably best 1st song 1st album in rock
Best into I give to El Gordo's Revenge 10" from mid 90s
They got Dolomite to say
"Ladies and gentlemens I'm Dolomite and I'm here to tell you, El Gordo's Revenge RULES baby, and I ain't lying"
I'm here to listen again to the song, the band and that bassline that blew me away sometime in 1980 - Thank you Algy Ward - RIP
if you like this you might like my brothers music. his name is Stu Morris
Only here for Algy. Brought this when released with Algy cover. Bass line mmmm
43 years old and still obliterates any new music with its mighty boot
Totally agree. What a band. They get better with age ;-)
same here
The pivot point LP for this band , this emerges as a record the grabs you by the lapels, Captain coming out of his funk with both guns blazing. The band firing on all cylinders
I'd argue Raw Power from the Stooges still hangs. And modern day, White Light, White Heat, White Trash from Social D
Absolutely
Longer lasting than the Pistols, less self-righteous than both the Clash and the Pistols, and even occasionally harder-hitting. The Damned were the cool punk rock band who still had enough brains, but a wheelbarrow of fun. They charted a course through showbiz many other bands would be smart to follow, at least in terms of attitude. They were 'blokes' just like you, not full of themselves. This entire album is a masterpiece.
It certainly is a piece of wonder this album....I think it's definitely their best (albeit Black Album, Strawberries and Grave Disorder challenging for that spot). A masterclass from Vanian Scabies and the Captain - and in his only LP outing foentha band Mr Algy Ward.. Turn it up to 11.
Sex pistols (johnny rotten mostly) were snotty and all about being purposefully grating, but that doesn't take away from their impact and influence overall on punk and music history in general, but the damned really outdid themselves with machine gun etiquette.
It blends punk with goth, verging on hardcore, but still has that old school british rock sound turned up loud. It is punk enough to not give a single damn, loud enough to rock and almost be hardcore, yet rocking enough to be a pure rock album.
Really good stuff
SAve Your Cheap Comments, Cuz WE Know How We Feel.... We R Out Too Lunch... John Lyndon... A Passionate Irish Poet comment on St Patrick day 😀
Agreed.🍒👍
Best love song ever. 1st dance at my wedding back in 1998 ❤
One of the best punk bands ever but so underrated love them
Why underrated?
yeah, why are they underrated? as long as i am alive, they are rated all right! dont you worry about other people's music and (lack of?) taste and just keep them rated...
Who exactly is doing all this "rating"? Is it the same organization that slaps ratings on movies? I keep seeing all this "overrated/underrated" shit everywhere. It makes no sense.
@@Brewzerr I believe they mean by the general public and music listeners. But I also get confused as you do because under almost everyone's favorite band I see that.
Because they became crap really quickly. The first 3 albums are amazing though.
As a metal head rocker, I have to say that this still one of my favourite tracks!!
Saw them live in 1985 in Hammersmith Palais with Doctor & The Medics and 999 supporting
Tried to spike my long hair, but four bars of soap and three cans of hairspray later, we gave up
Aqua net in the white can, teasing comb, hair dryer.
The greatest intro in all of rock, punk ....whatever you wish to call it. i call it mind bending
Christian lee I agree, look up “east bound and down” by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
I call it... "Albert"
nah I’m sorry I feel the same way it was so fucking crazy to my brain in a good way it’s amazing
The greatest start to any album EVER!... Fact.
The Damned were and are pure theatre ! With the on stage presence , and great music to back it up !! And their sense of fun , who could ever dislike this wonderful band ?
Rest in power algy. The damned are my favourite band. Unfortunately I didn't get to see them live till 1981 so never got to see him live. Machine gun etiquette is one of the greatest albums of all time
if you like this you might like my brothers music. his name is Stu Morris
I was 18 1977. I still love it. Hugs from Sweden
Still going strong ..Punk will never die!
One of my favorite bass intros
Listen to the cover of “East Bound and Down” by the band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
The most beautiful and to the point love song ever. I love the Damned.
That bass line from algy is a killer
RIP Algy
That bass gets me RIP Algy
This is my wedding song. Their best album...
One of my all time favourite tracks.
RIP Algy! Top bass opening!
if you like this you might like my brothers music. his name is Stu Morris
Still one of the best opening bass lines ever
why do the damned look like they re just four dudes who accidentally walked into a photo together
Probably were and were like "You guys want to form a band?"
Oh shit, that's funny man✌
The basically were
When people were not afraid of individuality.
hahaha i was wondering this too :D They are just damned to be together, i guess lol
^__°)
This might be my favorite punk song of all-time.
And love song
Plan 9 Channel 7. Wait uh Melody Lee. Wait, Blackout. Uh wait lively arts. New rose, wait so many. Mesmerizing.
The Best punk rock song made in the UK,Ever. Just Awesome.
Great track that charted way before the numbing songs we have in the charts today - proper energy and lust for life - this is when bands actually wrote their own songs and played their own instruments and performed them live as well. Real respect.
One of the rare Bands to record two masterpieces in Rock. DAMNED Rules ok!
I think this is their best song and the best line up. 43 or more years later and it is still incredible. When they came out I read an article in NME or Melody Maker that they were huge Lemmy (Motorhead & Hawkwind) fans. I think they used to almost stalk Lemmy on their scooters as he drove a Harley around London. Hilarious. Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode said Dave Vanian was his hero and emulated him. Their voices are fairly similar and more baritone. Dave V's got a great voice. No one sounds like him.
They played together motorhead and the damned called the doomed...over the top and ballroom blitz...big fans of each other
2022 still blows anything new/old away!
Under-rated & Awesomeness
If you aren't and never were a fan of The Damned, you have lived a dismal existence
if you like this you might like my brothers music. his name is Stu Morris
Algy Ward playing with a ten pence piece - brutal on the strings!
This is my favorite punk song, and band. Geniuses at their best.
Love this song
I love how that chorus kinda comes out of nowhere. The higher vocals just drop to that smooth chorus.
The Damned were the essence of mainstream punk - much more real than the Pistols.
"Mainstream"??? maybe the MCA era (Phantasmagoria and Anything), but definitely not this era. The mainstream didn't wanna know.
@@Brewzerr Wrong TOTP 1978 Mainstream..
@@gmantramp404 Not in America.
@@Brewzerr Yeah fair enough never thought of that. Cheers 👍👍🤘🤘
@@gmantramp404 Yeah I forgot that Love Song charted high in the UK, and they appeared on TOTP. Over here the radio was too bogged down with the likes of Journey, Styx, and Donna Summer at the time.
A Pearl! A Jewel! A Masterpiece!
Birthday 2008, this and Wish You Were Here played over and over again well after I couldn't tear anymore.
I saw the damned live with Motörhead back last year in 14 and I have always been in to punk
Right on. Been punk since about the same age, 43 now, still rocking. Life is short, do what makes you happy! Peace. {:)
Blue Acid xD pp0
I saw two wasps fight each other over a dead earthworm while my neighbor took a giant shit in his front yard in broad daylight, and I've always been into midget porn.
rock on this song still has more bite then some songs .love this band
saw em live 78 ..mindblowing gig
That guitar solo is fantastic
Shit is so tight
Bloody fab.. ❤
Oh that bass in the beginning , remember i played it again and again and again and again a........
Have loved these guys forever!
The opening spoken part is the actor Jack Howarth who famously played grumpy old man Albert Tatlock in Coronation Street from the first episode in 1960 to 1984.
He didn't record the piece specially for the Damned though.Captain said they just lifted the 2 phrases 'Ladies and Gentlemen' and 'How do?' from some spoken wordr ecording Howarth had appeared on - a play I think.
Brilliant as ever by the Damned - classic comedy and great music.
Brilliant explosive raw energy !!!Love it
Brilliant song. The lyrics never fail to make me laugh. GO!!!!
The Captain's in his element here -- just listen to him.....
One of the BEST!
Even a goddamn Metalhead like me loves this album.

The finest in Punk!.RIP Algy Ward! Read once he used a steel pick!. (And probably bust a lot of bass strings too!)
I lived near Daves mum.
It was hilarious to see him and his lady turning up in leathers and a Harley to cut her front hedge..
