i love how each of the guys in the band are in entirely their own world fashionwise. it's refreshing to see (even though it's old) a band where the members don't all look alike. that together with their music of course makes them cool as fuck
rat scabies the workingclass oi punk, captain sensible came from the theatre, algy ward was the motörhead/heavy metal dude and dave vanian wanted to join joy division before he joined the damned. Loving it!

One of the most influence band for Goth, Post Punk, Dark Wave, New Wave. Without them many bands would not be around popular ones. The Damned never got real attention only bands who The Damned was inspiration. The Damned and Dave Vanian are legends absolutely top band.
..and absolutely lovely blokes and really down to earth. We spoke to both Captain and Dave outside Birmingham O2 Academy last Saturday after the gig when they also signed our merchandise.
it would have happened anyway. but they saw it first.. then again, there was a lot of "goth" bands in the 20's-70's... Dave was surely in tune with the past , and made his version ..
I swear, it would totally be worth the risk to sell everything I own (at the age of 54) and pursue a serious music career just so I can get on national TV and introduce myself to the world as "Idiot Asshole". HAHAhahahha! Love these guys!
When I saw the damned the other year (who hasn't, they've been on their "final tour" for three decades now) Captain was running down Mumford & Sons between songs... Just the best, my all time fave punkers. Jesus, can you believe Ray Davies collaborated with MF&Ss? Yuck.
The funniest and friendliest people i ever met!!.... no really!! ...It was 1978 Eric's club, Liverpool when i was a teenager..... and later at the Royal Court in1981 They were great... wk4max saw them last week in Dallas, Texas. Did the pre- and post- meet and greet, they signed my albums and my friend's Damned and captain sensible stuff and the limited edition Damned snare he bought on the website (#28 of 40 made). Captain and Vanian (rest of the band too) sweet guys, wonderful guys 40 years onward. The show was really good too!
I saw them in October. I met captian before the show, just waiting behind the venue. He was SOOO Nice to me. He got in trouble so I could go talk to Dave!! Jesus they were already my favourite punk band!! Never forget!!

Aqui no Brasil curtimos muito esse som, essa banda é simplesmente fantástica... São Paulo/ SP- ZOna NOrte onde o Punk surgiu no país.........Jardim Pery
They played for about 2 1/2 hrs, several encores (we wouldn't accept that the "last" song was the last and were all shouting "encore" at the top of our lungs until they would come back out again and again) basically every song from their 3 albums. And they were incredible-the energy of a freight train locomotive, tight as shit and at the same time loose and relaxed.
Finally got to see them in Melbourne show recently and what amazing memories watching, listening and meeting them. Will never forget this!!! The Damned are awesome live and completely underrated...shame commercial radio stations don't have the guts to play their music. From the hauntingly beautiful voice of Mr. Vanian to the magnificent Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies, Paul Gray and not forgetting Monty Oxymoron, this band needs the recognition it deserves. Thank you for your historical music and talent. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🤩🤘😎
Vocalist kicks the announcer to the fire Bassist just walks away in the middle of the song Guitarrist breaks his guitar also in the middle of the song lol Most punk performance ever date
This is a kick ass Damned video. It's funny when the host ran away from Vanian. The first close up of Vanian already looks menacing hah hah hah. This is killer Damned Damned Damned!!! Can't wait to see them @ The House of Blues on March 19.
The Damned - my youth. It´s great to hear them again. the Clash, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols - the good old time. But the Damned were my favourites, the sound of his voice is just beautiful.
Love this band, roll on next weekend when I get to see them for the first time since the factory at the Russell club more than 30 years ago... Happy days
I am so lucky I have gotten to see them in concert at least 3 times. first being in 1986 at the Jockey Club in Newport Kentucky/Cincinnat Ohio. they are one of the BEST Punk bands....
Thanks brian110x. This is as awesome as New Rose. I also watched their Grimly Fiendish and was blown away by their musicianship and excellent songwriting once again. Now I have to check out some other videos by them. I was only half-conscious of them in the early 80s, but better late than never.
I got to see them like 2 years ago in D.C, if you ever get the chance take it! one of the best live sets I have ever seen. Even better live than on record.

So loud that you could feel it through your body, Rat was an arse stomping maniac, Paul Gray grinding out the bottom end, Dave the Dark Overlord incarnate, and the Captain was beyond description incredible-Strat/Marshall cranked to 11, his tone was roaring when he played chords and a soaring wail during solos which were even better than those on their records. I've seen a (very) few other performances that were on par with that evening, but I swear that show was like a religious experience!
lol i love them! i was only a young thing when my big brother blasted them for all to hear and i fell in love with them! dave is still a lovely looking guy! even my mum fancies him!
Rat Scabies originally met Dave Vanian at a Pistols gig, in the mosh pit, so the story goes. He took one look at him and said "Come with me, lad, I'm gonna make you a star." And he did.

I still have to listen to Punk Rock a good amount at 56. Man, the 80s were something else.
70's mate. ('79)
Not just me then? Same age as you as well!
That bass intro to Love Song is just magnificent. Tragic loss, RIP Algy Ward. 🖤

hell yeah lets do it
Ya know, you could just do and say that here. (but i feel like you already have;)
classic Algy Ward!! Best bassist and probably one of the best vocalist of NWOBHM.
@@Sodomizxr agreed, he’s one of my favourite musicians
Dave's smile at the beginning is so adorable
The Damned having a whole lot of fun!🤩👍
The Damned are too underrated in my opinion. They're absolutely amazing. I love em!!!
Not underrated by People that Know & Understand Great Music.
Captain Sensible: THE most underrated guitarist in Rock.
The most underrated Guitar wanking 🎸🔊♠️🤠
playing a guitar with a snapped neck is pretty awesome :D
When I saw the damned the other year (who hasn't, they've been on their "final tour" for three decades now) Captain was running down Mumford & Sons between songs... Just the best, my all time fave punkers. Jesus, can you believe Ray Davies collaborated with MF&Ss? Yuck.
I think the most underrated guitarist is Johnny Marr
Really a very good guitar player, and he does pull it off live as I have seen him several times. So much better than Brian James as a player.

All that energy on stage and the audience look like they're nailed to the floor or in a coma.
(Dave gets up) "Oh my God!"
My favourite song from the age of punk. Brilliant opening to the best album! Great band, loved em' to bits.
Algys off at the end 😂😂 I love these guys so much. Just awesome!
The greatest line-up, at their peak. The influence of this chapter of their career on most developments in alternative rock cannot be overstated.
Saw them around 1977 with marc bolan on tour. Brian james was outstanding at the gig. I prefered that original line up..
one of the best punk band (and more) of all times
"The Damned" = "The Who" of the punk rock
Hollandia777 I like this comparison!
The Who are The Damned of all time bands👍👍😉😉
Best thread ever!... best bands ever!
Great (rare!) footage of the amazing Algy!

DAVE VANIAN fantastic
I love the sound of his voice. Even when he's just talking...I want him to say more words.
The Damned - my youth. It´s great to hear them again. the Clash, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols - the good old time. But the Damned were my favourites, the sound of his voice is just beautiful.

RRRRRAT SCABIES!!
