Two months sober and returning to John K Samson when my head feels like a raw nerve. Honestly been crying to these songs a lot and really really glad to be here
Yeah...for over twenty years Mr. Samson has helped me stay here. Really glad you're here so that I can tell you I'm glad to be here. Hang in, and hang on, brother.
I had a cat named Luke for years and when I went off to art school in Pa, he thought I abandoned him - he got out and left after 2 weeks of waiting on me. I never realized how much he helped me thru tough times or how much we meant to each other until he was gone. Virtute The Cat Explains Her Departure crushes my soul every listen. It's rare though that I listen to it considering how heavy it is for me. I've lost close loved ones and songs reminding me of them aren't near as hard to hear as JKS doing Virtute Explains....I chalk that up to expert songwriting on the part of the forever genius kid, JKS. I hope all here are getting thru their respective life paths okay. ❤
I cannot thank you enough for posting this. The virtute saga means so much to so many. Normally I’m all about the performance, but to hear those close to the recording sing along adds to the community that is helped by these stories. I know you’re strong. THANK YOU!
@@solarpoweredtree I'm not laughing at you, or your loss, but rather the accidental image of you just tearing up the blacktop somewhere in your funeral suit. A little smile in the face of sadness.
I'm grabbing the tissues. I've listened to the recorded trilogy a million times, but I didn't realize he did a full live version of the entire 4 virtute songs.
Love this! I've been a fan of Samson and The Weakerthans for close to 20 years. I got the chance to see the Reconstruction Site tour in 2003 in Dallas about a month after the album came out. The Virtute Saga is among his best work, but Samson can make a great song out of virtually any subject matter. Thanks!
I had taken my kids to see The Weakerthans in Banff,,,, Rolling Tundra Tour and seems the Crowd always sings to A Cat named Virtute,,,,,Some music and artists are just gifts
Exactly my thoughts. Went from zero cats, listening to the Weakerthans quite a lot in the 2000s, to 6 cats now, looking back on the Virtute trilogy with a whole new perspective.
The song series is so much more devastating, but strangely uplifting, after you've lost cats. Three disappearances, six put down out of mercy over the course of my life. Eight with us now, so there are many times I'll need to go through it again. To say nothing his telling of the human challenges that these small creatures help sheperd us through. I figure I'll be listening to John K sing these priceless songs until I can no longer press a button. Then, I'll listen to them in my memory as long as I can.

John you deserve all of the awards. For making me feel life. For making life feel like life
Legendary poet. Wish he’d tour again
"Explains" seems to be the fan favourite, but "At Rest" is perhaps literally the finest piece of writing I have ever seen.
Christine on 17th street treatment center is perfect

Virtute The Cat Explains Her Departure is a gut-wrenching tune.

I saw him play this entire saga live a month after losing my best friend to addiction. I'm crying now and was balling then..
Bawling.

Round two with this glorious live performance.

I wish John and Christine would do a full album together
They have one now called Hold Music under the name Vivat Virtute
I want to see him live so bad but I can’t find any of his shows
I always thought the Virtue songs were bittersweet/sad but now I have a cat and they are DEVASTATING.

We're all just not getting better, together.
