i really appreciate that you are going over such an old camera, I just found this bad boy laying around my dads old closet and ive been trying to find out how it works/ how to work it. thank you
I can confirm windows 10 (on my pc) does indeed recognize the camera when plugged in, just make sure communications option in settings 2 is switched to Print/PTP, flash card is then readable and files can be transferred
@@JuiceBoxMusica my 350d has been sitting in its bag on top of a cupboard gathering dust for nearly 10 years, had to buy a cheap battery charger to test the battery (original charger disappeared), and the battery started charging! The tiny lithium battery for the date / time stamp is also still working. I have since bought several second hand items for the 350d on ebay very cheaply, (original batteries / original charger / original leads / grip / CF cards / a lens / etc)
My first DSLR, three or four years ago. Before that it was film. It is a slamming great camera, and I used it with old Minolta lenses and an adapter. When I first started posting pictures from it online, people were like "THAT was shot on a Rebel XT? I need to dig mine back up! " LOL.
I do think these are super underrated. Old sensors, when used within their limitations, perform really well. The gigantic pixels on those low-count sensors just perform well.
@@DavidHancock Absolutely. And if you are only sharing your photos online it is more than capable. There aren't any real bells and whistles, the screen is small, etc. But there ain't nothing wrong with the images it produces.
I hadn't used my 350d camera in a few years but when I plugged it in to see what was on it and copy them to my computer, I found that it hooked up to my laptop, which is Windows11. So I hope that answers your thoughts on compatibility 😎👍
Many thanks for this video. I've got a working XT and, as of 2024, you can plug it into a Mac with the current system and download photos. This didn't work a few years ago but the camera seems supported again using Photos.
Looking for a second camera for my partner (so we can both learn photograpy) and found one of these for $100 with a sigma 17-85mm lens. This may have convinced me to grab it (I have a very small budget to work with). Thanks so much for the info! 💜
The Rebel XT was my first SLR Camera and I just started using it again after putting it away for a several years it seems to work fine and will never part with it, I want to upgrade and keep using my lenses that I have for it
Nice! These are still fine cameras to use, too. Old DSLRs may not have all the features of new ones, but they have important things like good sensors and small file sizes. :D
FYI, I own a Canon EOS Rebel XT and can download photos via the port on the side of the camera. 2 the software that came with my camera and was loaded years ago works on my laptop that has been upgraded to Windows 10.
Not directly that I know of. You might need to first put them on your computer. The only thing I can think of, if there's a CF card reader that your iphone can connect to, then you might be able to do it that way.
The Canon XT was my first digital SLR. After I had upgraded to a 40D I loaned it to a friend, and it was stolen from her vehicle. :( As bad as I felt, I know she felt so much worse.
Well, these are all used now as they're about a decade old. Retail pricing will vary, maybe as low as $100 to as much as $150. It's a great first or beginner DSLR.
@@DavidHancock i recharged my canon battery and its ful but my camera wont go on i checked the battery door and all the other steps to inset and remove my battery and card but still wont go on...its been long since i used it but i do understand what could be wrong
There are two possibilities based on that description. If the battery went a long time without being charged (especially if it was left in the camera) it could have deep discharged. In that case, even if the charger says it is full it will not be able to hold any charge at all. To check that, simply buy a new third-party battery, charge it, and see if the camera turns on. If not, then the electronics or the power switch have failed. In either case, the camera will need a repair to fix that.
Hello, is this camera better than a phone camera or what are the benefits of having this camera over using my phone? My mom is giving me this camera and i would like to know if its worth using and setting up. THANKS!
In some ways, yes. It does not record video, but your stills can be edited much more easily than from a cell phone and the larger sensor means you will almost certainly have better results. If you only ever share on social media with cell phone users, no one will ever know that this camera is better. If you want to do some work with your images and hold them to a higher standard, this will be a better option.

Can’t use this as a Zoom Camera?
Not to my knowledge.

Connects fine to Windows 10 in 2023. Digital Professional Photo v4 is available from Canon website free main and seems to work with it.

I have the same camera and it is also missing the side cover. Do you know where I can buy it?
eBay is the only place I know of, but you'll have to do some disassembly for that as the cover has a connector that goes into the side of the camera.
Can i use my phone as a external monitor for this camera?
There's no way that I know of for that.
