Thanks a lot for these really helpful videos! I've recently taken up astrophotography and got this camera used from my mom, so as a person whose never used a "real" camera before this is very useful.
So this is my first DSLR - bought it in 2008, and still learning... hope to upgrade to a more recent model soon, and I'm sure that your videos would definitely help to enhance understanding....
I recently purchased one of these cameras. Thank you for your videos. My question is in regard to video. I understand that that the camera does not record video, but there is a port on the side labeled "video out" . Can you explain?
i have a xti that i inherited from my father-n-law who was a published wildlife photographer i believe it still has an early software in it doesnt have several of the settings in the menu that you showed But it still uploads to my 6 month old asus laptop so you dont Have to pull the card to download it (keeps from buggering it up like yours got on the contacts), got some great pics of the 10/14/23 eclipse in NM --- keeps on snapping pics like a champ
i bought this camera new in 2007 and spent i think around $700 for it. sad to see it's now worth maybe $100 but compared to today's cameras i can see why. time moves on!
A $30 camera off eBay might need a CLA though. I just ordered one, pray I win the lottery.. ordered a bare body to go with a film EOS Rebel and the lenses it came with
i also bought this camera in 2007, it's very lightly used and like new. MPB offered me 10 dollars trade-in. I'd rather give it to someone just starting out....
Does it have a SD slot? Also does it need a CF/SD card to turn on? I have charged the battery for hours but I havent been able to turn it on so I'm assuming that's why? I'm not sure
CF only on this. The memory card is not required for it to power on. The battery could require overnight to charge, but if it's not turning on with a full battery then either the power switch or electronics board needs to be replaced. If you just bought it, I'd recommend returning it if it won't power on.
Thank you sir for your professionality Pls sir I have a problem with my canon 400d camera The camera snaps but my images are horizontal half that's the images are not complete pls sir I need your help
Hey man, someones selling this camera with 18-55mm lens for 60. Do you think its a good offer? I just want a beginner camera to take photos of landscapes and planes.
@@DavidHancock Thank you! WRT firmware update 1.1.1 . Canon's website says it just adds info about lenses when printing with PictBridge. It also said "your firmware is up-to-date"--I can divine how they could possibly know. I'm having no issues with the camera--I stopped looking.
How would this do for bird's and stuff? Have a guy selling one for 250 and i need a better camera than what i have so im looking sround but i dont know much
@@annieclepper3015 unless it has a good lens, 250 is steep for this camera. But for any camera, for birding you'll want a good telephoto lens and a fast shutter speed. Shooting in raw and burst mode helps, too.
It depends on how you do it. With a bulb blower and a sensor cleaning brush, it's a-okay to clean the sensor and should be done. I do not use solvents or cleaning fluid or similar things on sensors unless there's a very significant need such as grease on the sensor.
I have a question: i have a Canon EOS 400D (that mine friend gifted to me only because she wasen't using it while i liked it so mutch that she gifted it to me, thanks friend!!) but i can't see all the photos that i shooted connecting the mini-B exit to my PC, but i haven't a cf card reader, how can i resolve? (i only see the photos shooted before 3 days ago)
Interesting. I'd try reading them off the CF card on your PC and see what happens. If they transfer and you can see them that way then a-okay. If not, let me know.
@@DavidHancock I may ask my friend to give me the CF reader (i haven't one) and try reading the card directly from the computer as you said, when this will happen i will tell you the results, meanwhile thanks for the reply
@@DavidHancock Ok, i found that i was wrong, using che cable i can see all the images, with the cf card reader i can see even more files than using the cable, but, for a motivation that i can't explain some photos where saved "IMG_XXXX.JPG" and others "_MG_XXXX.JPG" and because of the alphabetical order in the folder the "_MG_XX..." goes before the "IMG_XX..." also if the number XXXX is higther in the "_MG_XX..." and because of this i wasen't finding the latest photos i was shooting... (the motivation may be the mode of the photocamera, like manual rather than auto or others, but its strange, what do you think?)
I bought one of these for my wife. Unfortunately I am having trouble deciding what memory card to buy. I originally bought a 512 GB SD card and CF adapter. Yeah, it didn't like that. I'm guessing it's an issue with the adapter. I know older hardware sometimes has trouble addressing large memory cards and I found a lot of conflicting information on what the maximum card size is that is still compatible with the XTi. I have read literally read articles and forums claiming 512 MB max, 2GB max, 2 GB min, 4 GB max, 8 GB max, 32 GB max, and no max all for this exact model. Very frustrating. So I'd rather ask someone who owns one directly. What is the maximum memory size you have been able to use with this camera? And what is the file format and sector size?
@@DavidHancock Update. There actually wasn't anything wrong with my card or the adapter. The adapter I had was kind of funky and the card wasn't properly seated. After fixing that I tried again and it worked flawlessly with no errors. So I can officially testify that a Class 10 512 GB SDXC card in an SDXC to Type I CF adapter works just dandy with this camera. The only error (if you can call it that) is that the Photos Remaining counter is stuck on 9999, because there's actually room for about 42,000 photos by my estimate.
I actually had this problem using a MicroSD into an SD adapter into a compact flash and it didn't work at first but I tried a 4GB SD into the same compact flash adapter as well as a separate MicroSD and both of those worked
Short flashback to 15 years before. Thx👍🏻

I look forward to checking out the rest of your series. Thanks

Ah the Kiss Series. Crazy how many of them canon made.
No kidding. It's like the threw a new one onto the market every time someone said 'hey, here's an idea for a new thing we can do with these.'

Hello, I currently have this camera but only have a zoom lens, where am I able to find that lens you used in video? Thank you.
That's the 50mm f/1.8 EF lens. If you'd like to learn more about it, here is a review I did of that lens: ruclips.net/video/vJHcRmz40R0/видео.html

Hmm. Does that happen at all shutter speeds? It sounds like only half the image is recording and the other half is black. Is that correct?

Assuming it works well and you will use it, that's a great deal.
Hi David. This camera is okay for moderate to high resolution web photos but not so much for print photos right?
Thanks
Jeff
I'd agree. A 10 megapixel sensor could deliver a print-grade image to about 8x10 (A4 off you're outside the US.)
