- Sammy Hagar recounts how Eddie Van Halen woke him up with a phone call at 4 AM and was excited about this amazing riff he'd worked up. He played it for him over the phone and the red rocker started coming up with some words. The song would become an 80s classic. The title track of their 1986 multiplatinum hard rock album 5150. Micheal Anthony added his signature backing vocals and Alex Van Halen killed it on the drums. Named after Eddie's studio and produced by Mick Jones of Foreigner. Van Halen had their first #1 album which was amazing considering that David Lee Roth quite a year before.

I hate it when pieces of my childhood die off. It's the price of growing old. RIP EVH.
I'm not doing very good with getting old , I mean I knew I probably wouldn't but what do you do...
It really sucks.
Sometimes it feels like it's a curse to be a survivor and lose everyone and everything you ever loved, but consider yourselves lucky to be alive. This life is all we have in this world. There's still so much we can do and give and offer while we're still here. Hang in there, brothers and sisters.
Weneed to have fun getting old . Blast the music ans getmoving.
@@ericandrews1661 now I'm depressed thinking about what little I've done in 58 years other than jamming on VH for 46 years, drinking and drinking and drugging , and, did I mention drinking😂.😢
He really is the GOAT. I ran into him in Los Angeles and he mentioned his birthday party in Cabo, and he said come on by make a vacation out of it. I showed up and he remembered my face and got me a drink.
That’s epic 🤙
That's awesome.
I went to Cabo Wabo in 1987. Way before Cabo was even mentioned as a resort Vaca spot. Cabo wabo was a blast. Going to see Sammy in July in Boston
@@bengal3665 I almost saw Sammy in Springfield Illinois. We had tickets and everything, but unfortunately it got rained out. My dad and I might get tickets to see him sometime this summer, hopefully.
@iceyplayz3388 I've got tickets already for his July show at the old Foxboro Stadium, Mansfield, MA. Been to Cabo Wabo Cantina in 1988. Before, people really knew about Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Such a blast!!
5150 is a hidden gem on that album. The music AND the lyric
Favourite van halen song personally
Not if you were in HS in the 80s… it was blasting out of car speakers.
Whole albums fire what're you talking bout
The title track? Hidden?
The first tape I ever bought.
They had magic when they got along!
5150s a special tune … both musically and vocally.
When I heard Eddie died I litterally wept. Eddie the GOAT. RIP! Aloha brother!

You're obviously not a GOAT in much. Feel the need to be negative.
You either never enjoyed Van Halens music, which is fine and ok bro, or you're jealous & or envious?
Why be a douche?
Cheers 🍷
@@coldroses5337 oh I fricken love Van Halen but let's not pretend we don't know why Eddie was up noodling at 4AM.
I still get goosebumps when the intro takes off with the drums and bass
I seen a hundred show's Had the most fun seeing the mighty Van Halen.
Rest in peace, Eddie!
The best thing I heard in the earliest 80s was this: "Suckers Walk; Money Talks, But it cant touch my Three-Lock Box". 🎉
i remember the video early 80s,,,
Best live rock band ever. RIP Eddie.
One of my favorite song from VH in 5150 album. And man.. the intro is just stunning!!!
Still one of my favourite songs of all time so very unique there's really no other song like it.
I love these stories/ so cool to hear how it was done behind the scenes…🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶
That song is their best with Sammy, also another great one, Finish what ya started.
Never given enough credit Why Can't This Be Love? Truly a man's torchsong on the tragic nature of a failed relationship . No I can't recall, any love at all...
@@Teleflexx For me, its the Woos! on that song, just full throat, Wooo! Its got what it takes...
@@TheMsLourdes I agree with you, Sammy's Whoo! Is like a declaration of finally coming to terms with a dysfunctional relationship that just didn't work out. For me it's like a rock version of someone saying "whoo saaa". Van Hagar made some of the best Summer party music ever.
Unlawful Carnell knowledge. "Right Now!" Again, with Sammy as he also does 5150!
@@Teleflexx love this song. Also, when love comes walking in!
Sammy is awesome . Great energy and attitude.
5150 & Little Guitars are my favorite VH songs
Great picks, especially considering how much amazing tuneage EVH made with Sam & Dave.
RIP Eddie
Drop Dead Legs outro....
Running with the devil first kiss was to that song.
Two masterpieces. I'm also a sucker for that intro on Mean Street - 55 seconds of pure genius.
@@bradbowers7145
The outro for Drop Dead Legs....
still one of my favorite albums of all time.
So many times I've had great song ideas and I go to play it the next day and completely forgot where and how it went. If he wouldn't have called Sammy, I'll bet it would be forgotten later that day.
And it was there that 5150 was born and what a great tune it is!
One of my favorite intros to a song.
I feel so blessed to have grown up during a time of so many great musicians like Eddie, Sammy etc… seen both of them many times before and after Sammy played with Eddie.
And that song " Where eagles fly
Eddie was the man
Such a soulful amazing song. Cool time changes and breaks, great lyrics and solo. Love it
RIP Eddie. You were the greatest
"I just saw Eddie Van Halen down at the bowling alley. Yup, he was a zombie." --Bill Murray from Zombieland
Eddie Van Halen, ughhhh what a huge loss. Incredible talent. R.I.P.
To this day whenever I hear that intro from Live Without a Net the hairs on my arms stand straight up. Love this song!
5150 is a superb song
Eddies musical mind never stopped creating .
You never know when lightening will strike !! Sammy knew…
Sammy does NOT look lighter.
One of my favorite Van Halen songs
Sammy and Eddie...unbeatable.
Unless its Dave and Eddie...then they're totally beatable.
@@tambor76 Not really.
@@Fearzero - Really.
@@tambor76 Dave's career ended the moment he left. Sammy had a great career pre and post VH. Facts.
The sammy era of VH is my favorite.
One of my all time favourite songs by VH. No matter what singer. Great underrated album I think.
Hagar years were the best. Right Now is one of the greatest songs.
dear Sammy & Eddie! Musical chemistry & a bond that demonstrates another meaning to Foreigner's URGENT...that's why you call ME in the middle of the night 🎶 🤗🥰
One of the BEST RIFF SEQUENCES he EVER WROTE ....Well worth letting him come down to your room at 4 am in the morning....lol
Van Hagar once was a hell of a awesome machine.
After OU812 they became very mediocre
@@fredwerza3478hmm… we must have missed that part, I remember them kicking ass like always
@@lanewisdom6330 how did Van Hagar kick ass? They were selling LESS albums over time, whereas with Dave they were selling MORE albums over time. Basically, Van Roth was growing in popularity, and Van Hagar was dying off.
@@fredwerza3478 mediocre isn’t a synonym for popular, besides how the hell are you saying that F.U.C.K and Balance weren’t popular? Sammy was great, Van Halen was great, they kicked ass like always
one of my favorite VH tunes.
Absolutly.....
Damn I miss my youth…Northern California ..,Kate 79’s and 80’s…kick ass time to grow up in high school days…Bless Van Halen..,
He was a fucking genius!
I love these stories about Eddie. I miss him and certainly the greatest guitarist and even better guy..
RIP GOAT
The light of music that never goes out dimmed the day EVH passed away. RIP 🤘
RIP Eddie, we miss you so much! I will never forget you & I will remember your bad ass guitar solo's forever and ever! You were beyond brilliant, talent or gifted....you were a genius! Love from Susan in
Toronto Canada!
5150 the song is a masterpiece on one of Van Halen's most brilliant albums, and my favorite.
This song is the crown jewel of the Hagar era. My favorite VH tune.
You must be 70 years old.
Best Sammy era song there is....5150.
5150, great concert/song !! The best...!!!
5150 is my favorite "Van Hagar" album!
THE FUCKING 80S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mic drop.
You Guys Are Rock 🎸 Legends , " V.H. " 💫
His stuff was so genius! Just amazing!😎👍
That's how passion happens!!!
5150 is my all time favorite Van Halen album I’ve wore out so many tapes & cds of that project all killer stuff…
My favorite song on that album.
I love Sammy Haggar's voice!
Favourite solo ever
I feel the same way. The version & solo from the Live Without a Net is so sick. Might be my favorite solo from Eddie. They slow it down, and the lights turn blue, all while he plays a heady solo. They punch it back into high gear when Sammy screams. Ed melts everyone’s face off with the whammy bar dive bombs & horse whinnies, then they rage with balls to the walls energetic, frenzied rock & roll, and ends with Sammy shouting “come on!”, several times at the end. Crowd goes bonkers, and erupts in off-the-charts approval. It’s flawless, and blew the roof off that arena.
Sammy was the man when he was in Montrose
Ed kept Sammy on the hop when he was HIGH on coke,,, soooo yeah, Ed hardly slept!!!
Love the song, and the guys❤
Sammy is a class act!
He does really seem nice, but some times I can't handle all his energy. But also props to him for still having all that energy.
I miss EVH so bad… but grateful for having what he shared and created
Wish you guys could of stayed together and put out a few more albums before he passed because you guys made an epic band great music great times Eddie is missed rip but you guys were magic
Thanks for adding the names. Love these clips.
5150, tied for my favorite VH albums.
Records from the 30s and 40s often had very long intros. Almost as if the lyrics were an afterthought.
I've even heard that vocalists were often paid not much more than a meagre stipend for food.
It was all about the players. Truly a different time.
30s and 40s Damn dude ..how old are ya man.........=
@@ConcernedCitizen-fd4fdAin't got to be old to appreciate all types of music...I'm 58 and have made some of the same observations...
when inspiration hits its best to write it down right then when its fresh and real
That's my favorite Van Halen song!
Eddie Van Halen is a great song writer
EVH is a legend! RIP Eddie ❤
Priceless moments Sammy. Historical.
When we had Man Kind! ➕ 👑
Sammy Eddie fun what a team of Musicians Jams
Greatest guitar player in the universe
That song gives me the warm fuzzies .
YOU MEAN BAD ASS!!! LOVE AND MISS EDDIE VAN HALEN TRUE LOSS TO HIS FAMILY AND THE WORLD!!!!!
FOUR #1 Albums in Row with Sammy ! They never did #1 with Roth ....The Best Van Halen, they were on rails they were so good
Love the 5150 track. It should be respected more in the VH community.
I remember my girl bought this album 5150 when it came out 😮😮😮 I fricking loved it ,ended up seeing the concert in new haven ct. And I believe they filmed a concert movie that night???
You Were At The Concert they filmed “Live Without A Net” at?!!! I envy the hell outta you sir!
I'm DLR era, but 5150 is the best song they ever gave us.
I always wondered where I would be whenni would get the news of Eddies passing and guess where I was? Sittin on the toilet!! I got a text from brother and he said "I saw that your boy died today!!" And I was like "What?" He said "Eddie!!' And immediately went on the internet and saw that he died and the tears started flowing!! I miss him being on earth!! I know I aint the only one but I can only speak for myself though. He was special. His music spoke to me. He was a kind person I have seen and would sit and talk to people and just wanted to be a regular guy. Wished I could have known him. He is my musical hero!!!
My fav off 5150…great guitar work
Being older I still think VH of the 70s best. The Era of the best rock ever. Nothing after compares.
The end when Sammy says That was bad. They musta chopped out a word cause that is bad ass !
Eddie did that to Nancy Eilson too. They were on tour in the same city and the bsnd hung out together and Eddie and Nancy hung out playing acoustic guitars in the hotel room. Eddie said he never has ever owned an acoustic guitars before. So Nancy gave Eddie one of her acoustic before going to her room. Eddie call Nancy at 4 am serenading her with a beautiful acoustic piece.🎶❣️
DAVID LEE ROTH 👍💚💯
Gosh...I'd love to be woken up by a genius...lol..I miss you Eddie van Halen..God gave you a guitar and said go ahead and rip...
What a joy
I’ve gotten a noise ordinance ticket every other day for a week when VH released this album back in the day !! R.I.P. EDDIE your fans miss the shit out of you 😇
MAGIC!!🎶
サミーヘイガーがボーカルのヴァンヘイレン最高でした。
Haaaha the ending is hilarious, what a cut
Wayward , I always thought "disobedient". That meaning. I loved it, when Ted quoted kansas.
5150...best VH tune you never hear on the radio.
My favorite VH song.
Eddie was happy as hell at this time, after probably having a tough time with this original singer Dave leaving.
I been jamming that song a lot lately
Love to see the success of your channel!
5150: Best rock song ever on the best VH album ever
Geniuses do this.
