He had me up to the point where he said basically "you don't have an option to politely remain silent on these issues" That is wrong on so many levels! Everyone...and especially youth....should always have the right to be silent and not engage in something that they are unsure of or don't feel comfortable engaging in.
I have spent 36 years in the BSA. I firmly believe that if you truly live by the Scout Oath and Law, these topics are a non-issue. This is a knee jerk reaction by National Leadership to try and CYA. From what I am seeing, it is having the opposite effect.
Please expound. I'm a former Scoutmaster and now serve at the district level. One of my jobs is approving MB counselors; so I try to stay on top of MB changes. I haven't even seen the MB requirements, pamphlet, etc. yet. It is my understanding that the release is being delayed. So how is the new MB having the opposite effect.
This merit badge is seen by many as leftwing indoctrination. The effects of DEI are being understood now, and the BSA needlessly picked a side. Now the membership numbers are proving that this may have been a fatal error for the organization. @@baumfr
The concern I have is that the counselors will push THEIR views and opinions. That is not how this should be taught. Unfortunately, I suspect that is how it will be because even the teachers and professors push their views and opinions. Bad move BSA. Lets bend over again.
I've been a Boy Scout for 55 years. Over the past few years, BSA National has been telling me that I'm not welcome here. I finally feel it necessary to resign from my unit and district positions.
When we live the Scout Oath and Law we don’t need this political indoctrination. It saddens me the Scouting continues to allow politics to guide our life. Our Oath and Law speaks to this far more than this political game.
My biggest issue with equity is this. Kid A, kid B, and Kid C are all in the same class. Get assigned the same homework and class assignments. Kid A works really hard, does his school work and turns his papers in on time. Kid B is an average student and does most of his school work, but missed an assignment or two. Kid C is a total goof off. Never turns his work in and plays video games all day. Equity would give all three kids a passing grade. Equality is giving the kid who works the Hardest an A, the kid who does average work a C and the kid who doesn’t do the work and goofs off everyday an F. They were all given the equal opportunity to get the work done, but the ones who are willing to put in the effort should be rewarded.
What an abomination. When I was an Eagle Scout, I learned all about the importance of character and patriotism. With the addition of this Woke merit badge, I fear that our young scouts will leave the organization with less respect for the US and more anger than when they joined. There’s a chance I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is a single organization that has benefited from this. Check out Evergreen State College as an example of this gone awry.

National has indeed politicized the BSA...anyone wearing the uniform now is supporting a Marxist group in Black Lives Matter...whether they intend to or not.

"Diversity" is a fact of life. We are all different and this should be explored so it's not intimidating. "Inclusion" is fundamental to scouting. Scouts should learn to make it a top priority to make any new scout feel welcome. "Equity" and "Intersectionality" come out of the critical race theory handbook which has no place in scouting. Those ideas go against the fundamental principle that All Men Are Created Equal which is our basis for individual Liberty and Justice. This pos badge is a slap to the face of scouts everywhere. If a scout hasn’t learned how to be kind to others before they get their AOL then our leaders have failed as leaders and parents.
Also the talk of Equity is not realistic. Equity is equality of outcomes. I hate to tell you people this but though we are equal in the sight of our creator, it is not possible for everyone to be the same. Those who think this is possible need to be given the book Harrison Bergeron. A world where everyone is made equal by bringing everyone down the the lowest denominator. We need to encourage our kids to excel, not forcing them to be the same. Putting Diversity and Equity in the same sentence is an oxymoronic statement.
I am upset by this MB, my son is ready to start our Eagle Project and now, he might make all his deadlines before he turns 18. This MB should not have been required for Scouts already in the program. A grandfathering clause should have been adopted!!!!
I was told that if your Eagle isn't done by May 1st 2021, they will be required to earn this badge. Maybe we'll know what the requirements are by then.
@@USMCDAD47 That is not how changes have been enacted in the past. Usually it is optional if you began working on a rank (or badge) before the change is official.
@@wayneford7005 just repeating what I have been told. Of course National could do us all a little tiny favor and communicate. Not holding my breath. I already MBC three other badges, won't be picking this one up.
It will be REQUIRED starting May 1st 2021. If you have not had your all Eagle Requirements (other than Eagle Board of Review) before May 1sr 2021, DEI MB is required. The BoR can be after May 1st, according to the 12Nov2120 video of "national office hours." Yes it is different from past changes.
Well they took the boy out of boy scouts Next it will be trans scouts. Why can't people let kids be kids with out jaming this politically corect crap down their throats. I'm done supporting scouting.
@USMCDAD47 who can we ask for more guidance? Or complain to? If the requirements won't be defined until 2021, why can't the grace per be extended 6 months from that date? Scouts are too close to turn out another badge. There needs to be more opt out either by rank, if started / finished on an eagle requirement , age...something.. and did the video say the scout has to go somewhere- it's no telling what will be open when/where due to Covid..Help!
You need to communicate with National. Start with Garfield S. Murden, National Director of Scouts BSA - you might be able to find some contact info here www.scouting.org/about/diversity-inclusion/ - ALSO Elizabeth Ramirez-Washka Selected as new Vice President Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer. Try reaching her...good luck with that.
Before I go into my grievances on this topic, I want to respectfully thank you for the information presented in this video. So thank you for sharing. Something that has caused me issues of confusion over the last few years is the fact that the scout law states "A scout is reverent". In my faith, the Bible states in Leviticus 18:22 that "Man shall not lie with another man as he would a woman, it is an abomination" DEI today would likely call this very part of scripture offensive. If I am not mistaken, I believe this was the very same scripture used to keep gays out of scouting back in the 90's. How does a scout stay true to the scout oath to do there "duty to god" as a christ fallower & still be respectful to people who are gay & don't share these same beliefs if you can't be "silent" & look for common ground? As a child I was tought "Silence is Golden", not that "Silence only helps pupitrators" Proberbs has multiple scriptures about the value of silence. For example, Proverbs 10:19 states "When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent". I just don't see how these things can align. Thank you for sharing your views but I have to respectfully disagree with you & I believe this is the core reason why many churches today have left the scouting movement today.

I encourage all Scout leaders and merit badge counselors to just sign off on the merit badge outright. No one should accept this.
Every time BSA does something "politically appropriate" I loose parents, and thus scouts, from my unit. BSA is shooting themselves in the foot.
