I'm watching this in 2018 and I just realized that the game soundtrack is really nice. I guess I haven't paid enough attention when I used to play. Also, your voice makes this video very relaxing, kinda like ASMR. Greetings from Brazil.
The most important thing is to set affinity only for ONE core, as Sim City 4 was designed to run on one, it ALWAYS crashes if more than one core is used, which is the common reason of inquiries nowadays. It is very rare to not see multi-core machines today. I am running it okay on Vista and 7 as well, just set this in the Task Manager ;)
From my experience, taxes are there simply to create demand. If you want to make money, the easiest way is to put tolls around the commercial and industrial areas. You can easily make 5-10k per month by just putting tolls, depending on the size of the city.
The tollbooth thing really is the kind of thing that would have been patched out in the days of reddit but that almost everyone playing the game back in the day discovered and exploited (there was not even a penalty for building multiple toll booths on the same route)
Straight up GANGSTA!!! You've renewed my love and interest for Sim City 4. Got it when I was in 3rd grade; could never succeed without spamming the money cheat. Graphs, the secret is graphs
What are you doing running a city when you should be running a country. You're too damn good at this. Thanks for the help. Before this video all I could achieve was just 2 medium wealth apartments like 'Modern Apartments' and '2 Story Houses'.
the music in the backround was playing very triumphant music when you were revealing your plan, the game approves of ur efforts and now understands, like I have, what an awesome and realistic game this is, and how amazing u are at playing it. Good job man.
I'm playing it on a windows 7 64-bit system with 8 cores and 16 GBs RAM, it lags but still plays quite well. That really shows how it wasn't optimized for multi-core processors (which is normal, given when it was released).
Yes, got myself a new laptop and still had Simcity in the EA library, sadly I have to start over completely again so hope this can provide a nice boost
Thank you for the video. I was stuck with my simcity4 population of 230k and after I built the neighbouring cities like you suggested in your video I've added (in just one of the neighbouring cities of my main city) 20k. Keep up the good work. Will you be adding more videos?.
It'll work. Save often and beware of crashes. Theres also threads that help you optimize the game to be more windows 7 friendly. But yes, i've been running it on windows 7
You can, but there is something you must do every time you open Simcity 4. You must go to the task manager, show more details, go to the details panel and find Simcity4.exe. You need to right click on this and go to "set affinity" and then select only one of the cores. This is because Simcity 4 was not designed to run on a multi core system. You will have to do this EVERY TIME you open! Thumbs up so people see this :)
@TLee7914 Great! Feel free to take a screencap or vid to show us how it goes. I do have 1 problem with how i've built though which can lead to a huge disaster that i'll be tackling in my next ep. You probably want to tune in for it, should be up in a day or two.
Simcity 2013 shoud have been this same exact game but with better graphics and NO DRM (or some sort that allows offline play). They just went too far and kinda messed up. For the moment the best City builder i have is Cities Skylines, it is exactly what i wanted from Simcity 2013. The studio already had a good foundation with simcity 4 and instead of building on it, they creating a new untested foundation. So for now Cites Skyline RULES! This coming from an avid Simcity 2000,3000 and Simcity 4 player. Talk about letting your fanbase down.
however, one thing that Cities Skylines is missing, are the details. SC4 has a lot of them like little trees, benches, umbrellas, etc. a lot of buildings in Cities Skylines look like something still in the concept stage
You have a beautiful voice there brother & thank you for the explanation in wealth. I just completed a successfull medium size city!!! Also I have a question regarding 11:43. The commercial building you checked has high customers, even when the road and dual roadway has low traffic. How come? I only get high customers when I put a small street (the cheapest grey one) next to commercial, that too when I lay it in between industrial & residential zone. :')
Yes it can be done, set the game to run in software rendering mode and its fine, might randomly once in a while (not too bad, just save often and your good).
Dwyrin's account belongs to Sheldon from TBBT at least I think, just to givwe some advice, you need to increas your transport at some small areas, just a tip
Depends on what the mod does. Increasing your network capacity to a more realistic level and allowing more than 10 people to work in your high density industry is not what i consider cheating. But, to each his own, i guess.
I didn't use CAM in this particular season of SimCity. I used it in the second. Also, it's not a cheat. It's a plug in which in many ways makes the game more difficult...
I run it on a desktop with a 4 core with a highend gfx card in windows 8. Runs fine but I have set it to software rendering in the options. if you running win8 you should be fine.
fair enough. he should've mentioned that it wasn't vanilla. but the techniques apply with or without mods because the NAM doesn't change zoning or demand.
I watched your video. The solar power plant needs 3000 high wealth residential to be available. Where do you find that information? Half way through your video the window popped up to buy solar power..but, where do you find the numbers for res com and ind??? Thanks for any reply.
You are the best, I have tried this and it worked. But I did end up with a lot of vacant buildings...Did you deny wealth to your sims from the creation of the cities?
Hey. Nice work. I just got the game yesterday. My game has crashed a few times already. It happened after about 5 hours of playing. I now save regularly but I was wondering if there was any thing I could do about this?
My first time playing a simcity game. I'm doing pretty good,no skyscrapers yet. I was thinking what would happen with a wasteland neighbouring city(heavy pollution Dirty Industry, Low Income). Once you have a Utopia it get kind of boring, do the cities every fight other cities? Would a slum have the option to occupy a Wealthy city?
I also wouldn't consider allowing you to place bus stops ON your roads, and making it so that you don't have to place 10 police stations around your airport to reduce crime also isn't cheating.
There are at least a couple must-haves that dramatically improve the experience and which should come standard, such as that particularly popular one that adds roundabouts and such.
My game might be bugged. It offered me a university at 12,000 pop? The choice for solar was there about 10 min ago but gone now. Was this version of Simcity 4 deluxe bugged in any way?
How do you get your buildings to all face the same way when zoning? When I drag across the street edge/same tile spacing as you they all face in different directions and want to make side roads. I'm having to do lots one at a time so annoying lol
@@dwyrin Seems to be control cheers. Think it was because I was trying to build on corners so rather than them facing the same way they would always face the nearest road.
Create a shortcut to Sim City 4 and then add -w to the end of the target path. I haven't crashed since -- before I was crashing on Windows 7 64-bit numerous times.
I got a easier and faster way! 1) Make an Peninsula 2) Create an industrial neighboring city 3) Zone all low density residential 4) Make car ferries 5) Water all buildings and add civics 6) Make sure all residential zones have at least 3x3 or better plots
I've played SC4 on my windows 7 laptop for five hours straight once and never crashed. However when you start playing with plugins/mod be careful you can crash.
Here's a tutorial I need. HOW DO YOU GET THE GAME TO RUN SO GOOD??? I have a new Alienware with an NVidia graphics card. How in the world is this game running bad??? Any advice for running the game on a new machine?
You can fix the crashes easily. Start the game, get to the region menu, minimize the game, do alt+ctrl+delete, go to processes, right click on Sim City 4, click Set Affinity, then uncheckmark all but one CPU processor. The game can only run efficiently with a one core processor, so for multiple cores, you have to set the game to using only one core of it. Problem solved. I've played for hours on end with this fix with zero crashes. :)
The best way to make a successful city is to use special cheats to not need power and water and to fund everything to the max. Financially wise you loose money but with time it all balances out.
lol no. It's just that from the very first simcity theres always been a desire with city builders to have hte most attractive buildings. So I devised a way to make a city with nothing but them. That's all. No politics involved here =)
Tip: next time make sure the game volume is quieter than your voice volume cause I can't here you most of the time with the game volume louder than your actual voice.

That is a good question ive no idea. If you find out do let us know. Or use google. Whichever is easier
hey, one question, do you develop step by step? or do you just zone the roads avenues and highways initially and zone the residentials?
Vanilla? I'd perhaps go with CXL. if you use mods, just depends on which games mods you enjoy more. (heavily recommend mods)

try to set the affinity of the process to one core only, it'll remove the lag and depend only on 1 core
