@@RobsRedHotSpot Yeah I am Missecho on there and restarted that discussion. I have figured it all out now, and even made a few maps after Corie posted her corimaps link using clouds. Been having a bit of fun mucking around with that!
Glad to see someone else still plays simcity. I used to play religiously growing up and have recently gotten back into it. Not sure if someone else has said it, but I noticed when you are planting trees in god mode, you can hold shift to have a bigger area. Really helps on the large city blocks.
Thanks for sharing this video. SIM city 4 is one of the few city building games that still holds up to todays games that has great gameplay with lots players can do. Even though game released many years ago. This game has tons of replay value. So every time we play a new game it can be a fun new adventure to see how new city built💕
If you want to access the trees to cover your city: Ctrl + Shift + Alt; then click on the God Mode button, and it will reopen the terrain tools. I use that for filling cities with trees if I ever forget to do that. 52x52 feet is the measurement of a single tile, as 4x4 tiles equals 1 acre (~208ft x ~208ft). The original tile sizes in SC2K & SC3K were measured at 1 acre each. But, I did some research and such at one point to figure the whole thing out, and that's how I came across the 52 foot measure. This change in area is also the primary reason behind why players can no longer import their older cities from previous games, because the technology wasn't powerful enough, plus, the sudden change in structure would result in players simply having to rebuild their entire city (this time in smaller tiles). It's just easier to start fresh, and simply continue on with the older versions of SimCity, if you wish to carry on with your wonderful cities in those games. The imports, also retroactively (i think, could be wrong), established the tiles as being 1 acre large, as the tiles followed a 1:1 ratio from SC1 through to SC3K.
I never knew about the God Mode thing I'll have to try it! Also thanks for the info about the earlier games! There are a lot of things I like about SC3K and I'll probably be doing a playthrough at some point on this channel.
@@RobsRedHotSpot You could also, use "flora blast XXX XXX XXX" where the X's is the number of trees to add across the whole map, i find 250 250 250 to be a good balance, but you can go crazy with upwards of 5000 5000 5000...

This is one of the games that initially brought me to the entire PC gaming scene - I remember getting NAM back in ~2009. It's incredible that this is still being updated, I guess it's time to reinstall the game and get to mods.
Something I found to help me build a residencial grid of 6x6 faster is to count 6 roads and see the price, with roads of I am not mistaken is 60, hardly ever it goes more than that
The complaint about wanting bigger tiles seems to be a recurring theme for the newer Sim City games. And as crazy as it may sound, I almost enjoy watching someone who knows what they're doing (or at least looks like it) design a region in this game more than playing it myself.
I like the Industrial Doublers and Residential Halvers... but i'm having hard time accepting realism of Commercial Doublers and Triplers - especially for starting low density buildings - when i click on "Small Shops" and there is something like 60-90 people working... Anyone else feels that? Or you guys think it's realistic enough?
Really good idea to expand under low density and then as necessary build pockets of high density in your “downtown“ sections. Currently building plantation Bay for myself and quickly over inundated myself with infrastructural failures by planning districts in high density. When I realized my failure I paused plantation bay region and started a 3 x 3 large map on planes. No mountains valleys or waterways. My purpose was to develop the skills in order to have my center mat be my downtown area and the peripheral tiles all supporting each other. I started on my center tile and developed the top right quadrant. When demand for other cities started becoming higher I moved over to the tile to the right and developed that tile in the top left corner. Both of these small districts are only separated by The equivalent of a medium sized map if not less. Placing a monorail express line from each city with subway and bus stops at both ends. I have had great success in expanding the central city with this technique. But I always plan my districts out and place low or medium density and then as population demand increases I turn low density into medium and medium density into high density. But I only have high density residential wear my high density commercial office buildings are planned.
Awesome!!! Right around 52:30 in you dropped the F-bomb, and again around 1:10:00, while in the beginning of the episode you say "Hey Kids!" Awesome, it's almost like you know your audience is older kids (30-40's).
@Rob's Red Hot Spot , I know it's been more than a year since you've published this series, but I have a question for you. (others may answer also). After saving the map with SC4 Mapper, do you load and save each city tile, or is there a utility that does this. Doing this manually for a large map could take hours! Thanks in advance.
i found that loading each tile is what makes the map look normal, before you load them all it looks very very low quality, that the best way i can describe it. I wish i knew how Rob got the water and sand color this way! it is NOT this color straight on the Atlanta region download.
I have my SimCity 4 CD but my CD/DVD player is dead and today the us dolar is very expensive here (Argentina) so, I will only buy hardware if it is extremely neccessary. The problem is, I can't install the NAM because the new version refuses to work with no-cd versions of the game, and the older NAM versions cannot be founded. How can I install or replace the mod? Thanks
I found a steam code on g2a for around $3 last week, until recently I only had the Origin CD - replacement version. I'd highly recommend buying a copy on steam or anywhere but Origin, since they refuse to provide people who bought the CD with the patched version. That means even if you don't want to use NAM you can't install the 4GB patch, which was pretty necessary to stop crashes imo. Prices on G2A change every day so it might not be so cheap today, but if you check every now and then you might get lucky.
How did you make the config file? I have no idea what size to make it or how. Can you or did you make the SC4 Mapper video you were thinking of making? If not can you use this one as an example? BYW. I am hooked on your SimCity4 videos.
I've noted that name and location and will put it in soon! Paying more attention to aesthetics is certainly on my list of things to do for this region. I'll be building out from one central tile with less back-and-forth, so I'll try and put some finishing touches on each area before moving to the less.
Hi Rob! Great plans for the new region. Quick question - I noticed you zone 1x3 a lot. It fits the (realistic) block size perfectly but if I do the same I always have a "gentrification" issue. High wealth sims move in right between housing projects. It is my understanding that they don't grow on smaller lot sizes. Simcity doesn't simulate this well - buildings can only go down in wealth rather than go up as is happening in real life cities right now. I always end up with ridiculous, unrealistic low-rise mansions right in my city centre. Do you know of a way to prevent this without playing tricks with taxation? Thanks. Note: I normally play on large tiles and try to have mixed cities rather than separate wealth using tiles. Additionally, is there any way to mod in mixed zoning, or are we stuck with the current model vanilla SC4 provides?
It's true that gentrification is only modelled in the game through new construction, not renovation of working class housing which is a common feature in many Western cities. Having the manors in the city centre is not entirely unrealistic--many cities in North America have a mix of single family homes and apartment buildings in the city centre (look at Toronto, for example). New York had detached mansions in the Upper East Side until about 75 years ago, when developers started tearing them down to build high rises, leading to criticism from heritage groups (a similar thing happened in the 1960s in my home town Montreal). If you want to prevent this ingame, zoning medium density from the start (and providing water) will do the trick in most cases. You can also hold down the CTRL button when zoning to force particular zone sizes. I don't use CTRL because it prevents the zones from reconfiguring automatically and it's micro-intensive.
Hi Rob, I have a naming meta-suggestion for you: when you rename the regions, you could keep some sort of reference to their original technical names. Sort of like Paris's arrondissements, which have both a name and a number that are both in popular use. Also I'm curious to see how the doubled radiuses would work with your play style. Personally I found that they reduce the cost of providing services so much that the financial challenge is almost completely removed, which does not sound very realistic either.
I was thinking of exactly such a system for renaming, with numbered "wards"! As for the doubled radiuses, we'll see how they affect budget. We'll need the same amount of services as with the normal radiuses but there will likely be less overlap in terms of bussing and ambulances, so there will be savings there. I'll try and remember to talk about that next episode. The residential halver may counteract this to some degree, as more transportation and other infrastructure will be needed to support the same number of sims. The bottom line is that the budget is never very realistic in SimCity 4 and large cities tend to make tons of money regardless, so I was willing to make a trade-off in terms of convenience, less micromanagement, and more realistic radiuses. It would be interesting to see if there is a "realistic budget" or "budget rebalance" mod out there.
Hey Rob ...I found this old video of yours to ask are you going to try this new cities skylines 2? I remember like me ...u didn't care for that game. Recently after hearing part 2 is coming I've been trying out part 1 with all these add ons and size. It's still not anything like Sim City. From the developer vids tho it seems they've cleared all the parts of Sim City 4 that we missed. So again will you try it. I plan on it
Ok, previous post deleted, since I have the map shown.. next issue: leveling out the city edges. It seems SC4 wants to do this for every tile. Does anyone has either a funcitional one without doing that leveling all the time? Or is someone willing to send a blank region as in the video ? Also, it turns the edges to water even though land is on the other side. Weird
I do not recommend reconciling edges unless you have nothing built in the adjacent tiles. If you are going to reconcile edges, do all of your terraforming before you start building in all of the tiles.
My current naming scheme is 100% brutal, based on land survey coordinate: X-Y (X: west-east 1-10. Y:: north-south, 1-10) Currently dealing with 10-9 lol
I think I'm going to go with a Paris-style numbered arrondissement system coupled with names submitted by users so every district will have a number and a name.
Hi Rob, new to the game. Is there a current Radius Double mod you are currently using? The one I found is from 2005, not sure if there is a newer one? Thank :)
I think one thing you fail to do is provide C$ and C$$ jobs scattered along the roads in R$/R$$ locations. Even small towns will have commercial along the main strip. It might only be small mom n pop shops.
How can I find this mods I know BSC Functional Seaports, NAM, IH Fix and 4GB Patch however I can't find multiplier mods anywhere. Is there any tool for multiply Residential, Industrial or Services.

I did some digging as to why the federal prison and casino didn't unlock and I found something that might interest you. It's a list of all of the game's reward buildings, and the requirements to unlock them: wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Tutorial:How_to_get_Maxis_Rewards#03380000_Prison According to this guide, the prison requires a population of 5,000, and the casino requires a population of 24,000. YES. AT LAST Hey Rob. Could you name some major thoroughfares after important philosophers? Maybe stuff like "Spinoza Parkway," "Aquinas Avenue," etc.?

Very nice. Looking forward to the next episode. I actually tried the CAM 2.1 mod now. It is bit of a pain to install, but I come to really like it now. Cities are more diverse and they grow somewhat slower. I will link you an Blog entry about the mod, which got me in the first place: simtarkus.wordpress.com/2013/04/26/the-cam-colossus-addon-mod-separating-fact-from-fiction/ Maybe somthing for a future Sim City Season :) Oh and a little Slope Mod would improve the apperance of your city.
Hey! I decided against the CAM as a matter of personal preference, but I may do a mini-series using it at some point. It is certainly a very interesting mod. As for the slope mod, the NAM 37 includes some new slope and curve smoothing so I'd like to see how it behaves out of the box before adding any further mods on top of it.
Simcity player you have in everykind off.. Simulation like your more on the oiginal gameplay like vanilla , hard mode game restricted offer this in most ways. Quadruppler mod´s I think won´t fit that profile completely, except if the ivics won´t produce what we ought expect. Rail works best of there freight and passenger stations first. Bus stations I see no great real use for except if a area isn´t reacheble with other way 1 So think of your transportation before laying industrial or agriculture zones as afhterwards there´s no other way then road ttransportation !

This series is so good!
Do you like the SPAM mod for the farms?
I have used it in the past with mixed results, but am strongly considering installing it for this region!
I started it because I need inspiration for a big simcity proyect... I love it! A question: why you disables the Save and Exit option?
The Save and Exit and Save and Exit to Region buttons are known to cause file corruption. It's a _really_ bad idea to click those buttons.
My current naming scheme is 100% brutal, based on land survey coordinate:
X-Y
(X: west-east 1-10. Y:: north-south, 1-10)
Currently dealing with 10-9 lol
I think I'm going to go with a Paris-style numbered arrondissement system coupled with names submitted by users so every district will have a number and a name.
Hi Rob, new to the game. Is there a current Radius Double mod you are currently using? The one I found is from 2005, not sure if there is a newer one? Thank :)
I like to use Skyrim for the main area and using it's vast list of cities and towns in my builds!
I do that with my cities in Civ6 hahaha or borderlands area names.
This is amazing keep going :)
You shuld name a far off small town after me
What name would you like me to use?
How do you configure regions to use in the game. 🤔
I have a tutorial on that! ruclips.net/video/rk1p7xBZs4g/видео.html
I downloaded the Altana region but it's not showing up in my list of regions. Any help would be appreciated.
You should install the Altana region and other large regions using SC4Mapper, available here: sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2880
I think one thing you fail to do is provide C$ and C$$ jobs scattered along the roads in R$/R$$ locations. Even small towns will have commercial along the main strip. It might only be small mom n pop shops.
Suggestion for a region name. What about Bodega Bay from the Hitchcock movie The Birds.
Isnt it better to zone the minimal allowed farms? 4x4 or 6x6 instead the big ones? and just make more smaller farms
Depends on what you want visually! You may get more jobs with smaller farms but it'll look crazy.

It's a list of all of the game's reward buildings, and the requirements to unlock them:
wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Tutorial:How_to_get_Maxis_Rewards#03380000_Prison
According to this guide, the prison requires a population of 5,000, and the casino requires a population of 24,000. That's why they weren't being offered to you.
Yeah I've seen that thread before! Very useful :)
Any advice on how to download and get the map set up? My SC4 keeps crashing when I load the map
Have you installed the 4gb patch and applied it to your SC4 app?
Can you add mods on steam? Using MacBook so downloading mods etc is difficult
Here we go!!
Is their a way you can post a Mod folder online for us to download
It's a bit problematic to redistribute other people's mods in any kind of public way, otherwise I would!
Setting up since long! Nice. Question to anyone, NAM has version 39 .... should I use that or where do I get 37 ... thnks
You should use v. 39
300k per 4kmx4km area is 19-ish-k per square km. So far from 60k per square km.
This Altana map on my computer looks smaller and I don't know what am I doing wrong.
Not sure what mean by smaller! It's possible you changed the resolution of the jpeg or the bitmap file, but doubtful. I'd head to Simtropolis for more detailed troubleshooting.
@@RobsRedHotSpot I found your post at Simtropolis about map rendering of plantation bay and Honestville.
There's an option to turn the clouds off under video options.
They don't get in the way too often, but I should consider temporarily turning it off next time the "wall-of-clouds" appears in the regional view.
I have a city name suggestion of Ladylake hope you think of it
I've noted this name and will put it in soon!
I loled when you get red. These farms don't give much profit though.
yo rob I've just started to design my own region on sim city 4 but it's going to take me along time to do since i made a 25x25 region & am still playing it like a noob with no mods or fixes to the game lol
Enjoy the series and the game! Check out my modding guide in the tutorial series if you're looking for a list of essential bugfixes.
Great knowledge. Good insight all around for the game. The hissing and sucking of the commentator's breath, I could do without. Although it's my own personal pet peeve, it's still a trait I believe someone who narrates should try to avoid while commenting.
I really appreciate the video. I need your help on installing the mods to my sc4 games can help me with that🙏🙏🙏
YES. AT LAST
Hey Rob. Could you name some major thoroughfares after important philosophers? Maybe stuff like "Spinoza Parkway," "Aquinas Avenue," etc.?
I absolutely love this idea! Once I have a consistent street grid I will make a chronological list (like alphabetical or numbered streets but with philosophers) and do this.
@@RobsRedHotSpot That would be so cool! I'm glad you liked my idea! Great content, keep it up!
This guy actin like he doin rocket science
28:27 Are you being sarcastic ? I don't understand why obliterate city over missing some trees.
I had actually forgotten that you can use CTRL-SHIFT-ALT click on the god mode to get free trees, so not being sarcastic--I was just wrong, lol.
i wanna see the gameplay but i see 14 min of nothing
sorry was 21 min no 14
sorry i have problems in home
me honestly ... listen for about 8 min ... sorry correcting now ....15 min ... 18 min now ...23 min now to start some stuff and looking at a cursor flipping around is a real nightmare ... i do like the action after tough ...
I love this game. Playing on Mac. I wish EA would go back to this formula. I really don't like the SimCity Build it. SimCity 4 is the the best.
Yayy!
16 Meters is 52 Feet.
Isnt one tile 16 meters square - which is 172 sq feet
Why Player is Making So Long
The half of the video: uuh... eeh... and... ssooo... *sniffing*, *clatter*, *stuttering*.
Yes
Very nice. Looking forward to the next episode.
I actually tried the CAM 2.1 mod now. It is bit of a pain to install, but I come to really like it now. Cities are more diverse and they grow somewhat slower.
I will link you an Blog entry about the mod, which got me in the first place:
simtarkus.wordpress.com/2013/04/26/the-cam-colossus-addon-mod-separating-fact-from-fiction/
Maybe somthing for a future Sim City Season :)
Oh and a little Slope Mod would improve the apperance of your city.
@@RobsRedHotSpot Okay. However I really like your realistic aproach!
It is a pain to install. Im running it now in a new region with NAM 38. Started with a fresh install.
@@ast-og-losta Yeah it is!
Just love it when nothing happens in a video for the first 20 minutes.
Dude. Edit out the first 30 min of you blathering before finally deciding on a region. The rest is great.
cities skylines is the best
To much talking more building
Learn how to play dude..why build all those roads to start? Then you build 100 bus stops for a 500 population city
brb. learning how to play.
