#1 Ramp is wet and more slippery at low tide. #2... guy forgets to untie wench strap from boat and tries to back off trailer and pulls truck down into water enough that it started floating!
That is true but keep in mind the parking brake only holds the rear wheels. If they are sitting in the water on a slick ramp it could still slide in. You should always have someone inside the vehicle holding the brake down or if by myself I wedge aboard between the seat and the brake pedal
Note… Brake rotors/discs will swell with heat when you drive then if you stop and your vehicles in neutral and you put your parking brake as it cools the disks/rotors can change size when they cool and a vehicle slide right into the water I’ve seen it happen many times
He might have forgotten to unhook the chain from the trailer up front as to why the trailer was under the boat at the start. He must have started the boat and put it in reverse thinking he was getting off the trailer, but instead dragged the truck off the ramp and floated to the corner where you first saw him.
It's why I always float the boat away from the trailer before I pull out. My truck is lifted and 4x4 so I don't mind getting it way in there to let it float off. Additionally I got a trailer that is for a larger boat and modified it for mine because the larger trailer has a longer tongue so I can put it much farther in before my back tires even get close.
@8:50 you can see the driver's side front tire turning, so I don't think the transmission was in 4wd. Not being in 4wd is how the truck got into the water, but I'm not sure how the right front wheel got destroyed like that. It's possible it caught on a piling on the way into the water, but it's more likely that it was hung up on something and the tow truck caused the damage.
Would you want to do it with the gator that's always hanging around? Yell around the ramp. "Anyone want $20.00 to put this hook on and be responsible? "
What is the trailer disconnected from the truck, Who knows where the trailer could end up! Are you going to swim out there and keep surfacing every 30 seconds for air!
