THANK YOU. I see people on here speaking about their $300 lights. This is a competitor with the Arri Skypanel, so it's exactly as you said. If you're complaining about the price for such a great light, this light isn't for you.
I had to replay that section three times before realizing that what he is saying doesn’t match the table info. Caleb posts great videos but the fact that he didn’t acknowledge this comment tells me he just posts and moves on.
The P60C, not available at the time this video was made, is in my opinion and even bigger bang for the buck for indie filmmakers. The amount of colored light it puts out in a dark location is incredible. Just did a shoot in a warehouse with a HUGE metal staircase going up a wall, and I put this light under the stairs, behind clutter, and we blasted a high output fog machine from under the stairs upward as well. It is an incredibly intense and dramatic shot that would could not have done otherwise. The very saturated color was needed and the P60C provided it. I also used it to light a corner of a cabin interior. It also "revealed" a Freddy Kruger character (red where Freddy is discovered, and wherever he moves to). It does any shade of while light, any color, in any saturation, and provides soft light (though not incredibly soft, but great for many situations) especially with it's provided softbox. At $350 the P60C is a STEAL, especially for those of us who are not buying $1,700 lights every couple months. The P60C will likely fill your needs perfectly at a fraction of the cost.
before even watching the video i can reply with YES!!!! I got mine 2 weeks ago and just freaked out how cool that thing is! In 20 years of photography and 2 years into filmmaking, I can only remember being that happy for a light, when I bought my Broncolor studio equipment. That light is simply Fabulous and so convenient (and no, I'm not sponsored, just super excited!)
hows the colour brightness in the average household room with windows up on sunny day? Interested in this for colour washes filming in industrial factories?
Not sure what's better: the light panel itself or the fact I just discovered your channel. I appreciate the densely packed no fluff straight to the point approach. Keep it up!
This is incredible. Looking at the way the color is filled into the background, I can see why you would use it for your thumbnails. You'll save so much time in post! I'd really like to have one, someday, once my bank account agrees with that need...
Hi Caleb, in regards to your luminance chart @5:00, the Aputure website lists the 300D MK2 as 11,000 lux without the reflector and 45,000 lux with the reflector. Not sure where you got 1,190 lux from.
Wow, now THAT's a LED light!! Holy smokes, that bad boy is incredible! I do have to say though, I'm very happy with my Switti 2 LED set w/stands that I picked up a few months back. Under $300, with a great remote, and variable brightness/temp. Proper lighting is a must.
looks good but when you add up everything that goes with the light i.e. softbox with grid, battery pack,4 batteries, it's going to add up to 4000 quick, Nanlite makes some good tube rgb lights 4 1200
Great coverage of this light! I had no idea you could match colors using your phone camera, that’s pretty awesome. The one downside I see is that the saturation doesn’t go to 200% so I guess I’ll have to keep looking 😅
Great review! Every time I see a review for this light I cannot wait to get one. Moving from all post to include production now and have ordered 2 Aputure LS300X, 4 MC's 2 AL-F7's and now 2 Nova P300c Panel lights. I am pretty sure I can handle most anything I need from this set-up! I guess I am buried in the Aputure ecosystem!
Aputure finally has these back on sale as of today 12/24/20 on their site, everywhere else still has them backordered. Just picked one up, get them while you can everybody!!
This is a very acurate and versitile light, it could light a green screen, but a $20 tungston work light and some diffusion could do the same job, if not better. Kinoflow makes speciatly floresent tubes that are made for greenscreen lighting. Search kinoflow blue and green screen. These fixtures are also coming down in price in the used market. Spend time with a light meter, or you could use zebra stripes to fix any hotspots, seperate your subject from the background and watch for any spill light, then flag it off. If you meant using this light to saturate a wall with green light, its been done before with retroreflective screens and green leds, but it doesnt provide the cheapest, quickest, or best result. This light seems like a great all around fixture, think of it like a swiss army knife of lights.
this wouldn't be an ideal green screen as you can see the wall is not lit evenly. it's brighter in the centre behind him and fades outward from there. - with green screen work you want an evenly lit green light - also in this space, he's a bit too close to the wall and you can see the coloured light spilling on him so you'd need to get more space between your subject and a wall lit this way. but then the first problem i brought up would become even more evident as you would need to light a larger surface. so you'll need more than one and again find trouble trying to get that evenly lit balance. in the end, it would result in the fact that's it's much easier just to use a large green cloth or paper roll that's green and then light that. I'd used sky panels set to output a green light to help evenly illuminate a green cloth in the past and it worked fantastically so you could use these to do the same.
Great post as always. But as some already mentioned, there are something wrong with the numbers in your comparison table. 300D MII measures 45.000 LUX at 1 meter with the hyper reflector and around 11.000 bare bulb at 1 meter. A downside with 300D MII is the difference in kelvin. I have three and two of them are closer to each other than the third one which actually only measures around 4.700 kelvin. The other two around 5.200 kelvin. So not close to 5.500 and huge problem when in need of the three all together. I'm thinking the Nova is worth the extra bucks due to all the RGB settings it has.
that background colors thing really makes me want this could you upload something too Instagram showing how much space of colour it gives you at full output
I wonder why no one is talking about / comparing this light to the DMG Rosco models , the SL1 Mix and the Mini Mix. I use these and they are freaking awesome and also adapt to on location shoots, they can be literally handheld, feature all the Rosco filters obviously. It’s no wonder why Rosco bought this small French company, they make good lighting fixtures. Having experience the DMG Rosco, I would love to see how this one compares for the price. Great video nonetheless
Did you ever meter a Nova 300c with a softbox vs amaran 300c with a softbox? Wondering if the amaran 300c could replace it in a pinch IF there is room for it.
hows the colour brightness in the average household room with windows up on sunny day? Interested in this for colour washes filming in industrial factories?
So great to see Aputure devote their manufacturing resources to yet another new model to give to influencers when the last 3 invoices I've had with their products it takes over 2 months to get in stock and ship. As awesome as their lights are (and the P300c looks to be no exception) I'm getting a little tired of their business model.
You should compare it with Lightpanels, I am curious about results. I think this was made to compete with the Lightpanel Gemini 2x1 a 1x1. Those are even more expensive and similar in design and features.
Yes this light seems to meet the needs for my studio step up, We are shooting video my exercise style and well and talking head videos and love color effects it could create. Bought a Boling PI after watching one of your videos but has limitations. Thank you for the informative video. Peace
Great video. The price is fair for all that it does. Any chance of doing a quick sound text for us? Are you familiar with rotolight... have you ever used any of them? they have a few great lights that I don't see any content creators using. I have a couple. I really like them.
I’m trying to make a good economical decision, the bulk of my work will be interviews, two people at a time, a host and a few guest. Plans are to shoot tv projects and internet content also. I’m thinking about starting with this light or a simple Aputure 120Dii, what do you suggest? Buy this light first, or purchase this after the projects began to grow?
Nice light for sure when compared to an ARRI or other higher priced equivalent unit, and especially to lower-end units because of it's feature set. If you are making enough income on video/photo projects to justify this purchase only the purchaser will know if it fits in their business plan. Now if I was a rental house, this might be a very good choice as an asset to rent to out to smaller productions.
Hey Caleb. When you’re illuminating your background are you using something like a savage background paper?? If so are you illuminating white paper or something like an 18% studio grey paper? What’s best in your opinion for the greatest reflection+color accuracy?
@@himanshusaini1261 i thought so at first but there's different colors in the banding, it could be the RGB wavelength from the light, or how the camera sensor perceives that wavelength

Thanks for the video! I wish aputure would make something in the $500 range in between the nova and the mc. I have two 300x's and two mc's. I find the mc's output is just not enough for me and I hesitate to buy more of them to try and get more output.
Hi Caleb... I’m looking at the 12 pack MC, so, could 4 (or more...) be comparable to the Aputure Nova 300 c or the LS C120d (2) or LS 300 (2) for a talking head (not mine) usage? Could a number of MCs match the output of a dedicated powerful light? Thanks!
If you are using the light under about 40% the fans may not need to kick on at all, but ootb they are on constantly and it's up to you to change that in the settings. You DEFINITELY won't need to have this light at 100% most of the time. It's bright!

Really great content as ever! And this light is out of this world, I just wish two things: 1)I still had an extra kidney as I sold my other one to buy a camera. 2) I had a bigger room where I could use this 😂 fantastic really!

Your camera can't handle the color information
What do you say about starting with flexible led panels instead this, like FALCON EYES RX-836 for example?
Great video, Caleb! The backdrop application looks great on your walls. An advantage of having neutral walls in your studio! 😜
Is it possible to do it with a backdrop
Yes
This light was made for people looking to get an Arri Skypanel, if you're complaining about the price, you probably aren't one of those people.

Love it. Mine came last night. And must say lost some sleep playing with it. Trying to find the soft box in stock.
4:57 it appears that you made a typo with the output of the 300d.
What was the correct measurement?
What material is behind you when you are changing the colors? Is it a white backdrop?
Really basic question, but when do you use this type of light vs the aputure 300d? Are they used interchangeably, or does each have a specific use?
