    To all Gibson users, PLEASE stretch your strings if they are fresh, and lubricate the nut. All new gibsons come standard with a Graphtek nut, and prevent most tuning issues, however fresh strings will expand and you will lose the stability of the tuning. I own many Gibsons, and this solution seems to fix issues on them.

      Thanks, this is a great tip, and helps the issue on all guitars, not just Gibsons.

    The top on the Epiphone Les Paul Standards is actually a real maple top; it’s just got a veneer flame covering that to hide the pieces of wood used underneath, on both sides.

    My Gibson NEVER goes out of tune!! All the "bad stuff" I keep reading about Gibson ended up being Total bullshit, and my experience has been the total opposite in real life!! I'm a first time Les Paul owner as well.......farthest thing from a fan boy......all my other guitars are made in Indonesia, Japan and China(shredder guitars, strats)......the Gibson blows all of them away, it's honestly been total night and day........only exception would be Japan guitars, I WILL defend them, craftsmanship is almost the same, so that is true.

It just doesn't have the extra bling, which isn't my thing anyway.....it's still gorgeous and for $1300 was a great deal.

I also own Charvel, BC Rich and PRS guitars and ALL the Gibson Les Pauls smash the others out of the water for tone and craftsmanship. Never ha any go out of tune like this. I too will defend them all day long.
      The only thing I've not liked about Gibson is when they went off on a tangent and added all those strange 'Modern' elements. Don't need any of that crap! lol.

    My 60s standard nut has slightly angled notches on the G and D but and I've never had any tuning issue at all as long as my strings are properly stretched when they are put on.
    If you haven't figured it out yet just drop the neck pickup. It cleans up nicely. Well the 61BB did. Both of them were way too high from the factory for my taste.

    Interesting i also have the HC-burst 50s profile and so for haven't had the G issue to the some degree but yes it does eventually go slight out but a do do a fair bit of bending.
    I also have the G-Top 50s with the p90s nice guitar but all the strings tend to creep up in pitch after some play were are only talking maybe two or three increments but it can be noticeable at times. Yet my old 1977 Norlan area LP I have had since 1979 seems to hold tune fairly well.
    So I guess sometimes it can be the just luck of the draw.
    I think my Gibson bug bear is some of the QC and detailing leaves a little to be desired.
    On the 50s P90 Gold-top, a few tool marks on binding near neck joint and Nut and glue on the fret board in three places, and little chipped paint missing where stud of the tail bar inserts into the body
    The 50s Cherry burst around the 3rd and 4 fret two indentations in the binding and another around the base of the body and some glue showing around the string nut.
    these faults not that they affect play ability but for the price your expected to pay for them you would expect a better attention in the detailing and overall finished product.
    But I guess that is just the way things are for some Gibson made guitars.
    Despite all that, I do love the feel and sound of them.
    Please note **
    I noticed these faults only on the Les Pauls I purchased I haven't deliberately gone into shops and checked what other Gibson models or LPs may or may not t have had minor faults with them.
    So I am not claiming this of all Gibson guitars only my experience so far with the models mentioned.

    I have the same model on loan from my local guitar shop. I was going to take a chance and buy one having played a Les Paul for a total of 10 minutes in my life, but I thought I should try it out for a month before buying. I love my SG and I thought a Les Paul would take my playing to the next level. It hasn't. I don't think I have a dud - I just don't like the weight of body and the 50s neck profile isn't for me. The way the guitar was set up from the factory was very strange: the bridge and tailpiece were both lowered way down on the treble side so they weren't at all level; consequently the action was so low that even moderate bends would fret out. After fixing that issue and adjusting the pickup height (neck pickup was introducing too much low end) the tone is really fantastic. I wish I could take the tone of the Les Paul and combine it with the comfort and playability of the SG. Gibson's marketing for the Standard 50s and 60s models has really been aggressive. I never thought I needed or wanted a Les Paul until I started seeing them everywhere!

  • @leadstrat

    I have a 2021 50s Standard just like the one in the video. Personally, I think the tuners are the problem. I played the hell out of it for the first several months with no issues with tuning. Then all of a sudden, the G string tuner would go out of tune even with a small tug of the string. Weird thing is… it would be intermittent. I could set it down a few days, then no issues. Play again another day, and it would happen again.
    I decided to go with the Kluson Revolution locking tuners. They give the guitar the same classic keystone button look (albeit a little more white than the greenish tint) and no more problems for a year now. I’ve noticed the gear ratio is much better than the Gibson vintage tuners and can more easily be fine tuned. Yeah, it absolutely sucks to have to replace tuners on an expensive guitar, but hey, it stays in tune for days now. Even the G string.

Equally I like my Squier Affinity Strat (except for maybe the trem but I don't give that much weight as I don't even have that option on my Tele or Les Paul). Nice video. My Studio Les Paul is always in tune. I'm waiting for the 50's standard, she's coming in few days...if your guitar is out of tune it depens, sometimes, on how you're playing the instrument

    • @hyperbrightstudios
      @hyperbrightstudios  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the comment. I have quite a few guitars, some stay in tune better than others and I play them all in a similar manner. I’m not convinced playing style is the defining factor for that reason, though also I’m not 100% sure what is. There are a number of theories about what does or doesn’t cause the issue and I sometimes think it could be the combination of a few different factors. Maybe string gauge? Maybe how much strings are bent? Maybe the treatment of lube on the nut? It could be any or some of these things or the break angle of the neck etc.
      What’s interesting is that people have different experiences with the same type of instrument; there must be something that makes it work for some people and not for others!
      Regardless I hope you have a great experience with your new guitar! Let me know how it goes, if you have any issues and if you do how you fix them so that I can share them in an update video later on. :-)

    • @johndolores315
      @johndolores315 2 года назад

      @@hyperbrightstudios String gauge is a pretty big factor, lighter ones go out of tune faster. Also, non locking tuners is probably the biggest. When I get my 50s standard, Ima be changing to locking tuners immediately.

  • @lovesgibson
    @lovesgibson Год назад +1

    Honestly wonder if you might’ve gotten a dud, or if gibson lowered quality. As others in the comments have said they don’t have tuning problems like that. Obviously the string angle makes it prone to tuning instability, but my 07 classic Les Paul seems like it never goes out of tune, especially not after a minute or two of playing lol.
    Maybe the video isn’t picking up the sound quality well, but I’m not too fond of the pickups. It reminds me of the full plasticky sound I associate with epiphones… not a lot of clear tonality, a thick and muddyish sound. Maybe it’s just the microphone quality or the amp settings though.
    I guess that’s what was nice about back when buying guitars in person seemed like the norm. You could play the exact guitar you were interested before you bought it to be really sure it was the one you wanted

    • @hyperbrightstudios
      @hyperbrightstudios  5 месяцев назад

      @anthonyfarmer9797 honestly it depends on where you are living. The uk is pretty good for electrical safety, but in the usa domestic earthing is quite bad in a lot of houses. They just don’t have as strict regulations as we do. It would absolutely have an impact on hum from an amp.

      Thanks for the comment; you’re right about Ted McCarty, it appears he also designed many other of the designs we know and love from Gibson in that era such as the es-335. The sustain was a funny one because I was really expecting more, other guitars I have sustain a lot more! I have tried nut sauce on the nut already and is doesn’t make much of a difference. I might make a video where I try and resolve the tuning issues with various techniques!

      I’d love to try one some day, the tricky thing is justifying a custom shop instrument when you can buy 3 American instruments for the same price. I’d argue you can get more out of three good quality instruments which are different tonally than one amazing custom shop. With the possible exception of a prs because of all the pickup variations on their top models.

The only variable is the tuning heads.
