I was standing at the pit-to-paddock entrance after this race. I remember it only because the "polesitter" John Mahr came off the track with his stereo blaring some sort of music and I bet he had a smile under that helmet. Good times and while the trucks may look slow, they must have been fun to throw around.
Cameron Wagner Oh, man...*everything* other than the top Pro clases looks slow from outside of the car (or truck :) ). Only time I've ever been able to show my non-racing friends that it's not slow on the inside is ride-arounds on track days.
Cool truck race! Nice to see races run at Sears Point when the grass is green. So much of the track has changed infrastructure wise since the early 80's. Though I really wish they kept some of those foot bridges intact.
+Nissan Truckguy , there's more of the truck series around here! pfsupercars1 has '87 at Brainerd, and I've got the '90 Road Atlanta round elsewhere on my channel.
So im 33 and ive been a tech since I was 18. Nothing in the world makes me happier than my two year old son. However this is a real close second. Cash for clunkers crushed all the automotive gold over the years. Howany of these tiny beasts were prematurely ended? Craigslist says almost all of them. Thebones thst are left no one wants to sell. A nice 87 pickup of any designatio is like 20g's 😂. My dream car is a 198+ Toyota extended cab long with a 2azfe camry swap.
You are my hero. Thank you for sharing. It is quite sad to see such a small field. Did these trucks also race in "ITT"? Or was that a different series?
RJ, Yeah, they were the baseline for the rules for Improved Touring Truck here in SEDIV. It really wasn't much of a stretch, the Pro Truck series was so restricted that they already pretty much followed IT engine/suspension rules. I think a couple of guys I know actually ran ex-Pro trucks when the class came along, but I won't mention names. (Y'know, for internet privacy & stuff. :) ).
RJ Till , *This* January? I'm glad to hear there's still a couple left! I *did* get a comment on one of my FB groups saying he was saying he was restoring one of the Archer Bros. Jeeps! One of my racing buddies had one of the factory Nissans, after the Pro series went away..but that was 20yrs ago. IIRC, he sold it. Don't know where it is now.
RJ Till White and yellow was the old General Tire sponsorship livery. I really can't recall which Nissan teams had the Red/white/blue, and which had the Gen'l Tire colors. Have you looked at my Road Atlanta vid yet? That one has much better coverage of the series at its height.

Oh wow, my jaw dropped when i realized “oh that IS the field” damn
This series made me a small truck fan! I've owned 3 Nissan trucks so far love em!
Almost forgot about that type of road racing Road Atlanta you still see them racing there sometimes kind of rare though these days however
Thanks sooo much for posting this!

Nissan pronounced correctly by the commentator 👏🏾
Was this before the Nascar truck series 🤔
Craftsman Trucks didn't start until 1995.

I spotted an old ITT Nissan at a Road ATL track day early in January, pretty neat little series and trucks. Made this fun to watch.

Yeah this January, it was white and yellow now, but it was obvious the old livery had been painted over. I wish I had taken a better look.
