Yeah. Somehow, somewhat bigger trucks are working out in SuperUtes, an Australian series (feeder to their SuperCars). That's some pretty exciting racing (though I'm stuck in the U.S.)
Read Please 'Chicken Tax 1964'. By the end of the retailatory tariffs, small trucks had a 25% tax, this is still on the books. The first gen Ford Transit vans(made in UK) rolled off the ship~2009, went to customs and off to a small bay where guys, removed and bin the back seats. It's worth it to throw the seats away, as it saves the 25% tax, as it was a 'passenger vehicle......'
@@corymartino8283 Those are more like an El Camino than a pickup. But yes, very exciting racing! Check out Touring Car Masters, if you haven't already. It's just as good, if not better, racing than the supercars that it supports.
@@idriwzrd actually, those El Camino-like pickups aren't part of it anymore as of maybe two years ago (I hate those, myself. Dunno about you). Now it's Toyota Tacomas and Chevy Colorados, etc, as of maybe two years ago. Let me see if I can find a YuTube ETA: Here, from last year. ruclips.net/video/bIZMOSlsVnA/видео.html
I have one of Dave Wolin's Mitsubishi race trucks. The logbook has an entry for this 1987 Brainerd race. The logbook is not clear but I think I have the #87 truck. I never got to see the trucks race but I've heard a lot of stories from a friend who built Wolin's Mitsubishi race cars. Thanks for posting this video.
I was at this race as crew on a Trans Am car. I do remember SCCA making the top 12 Corvettes in the Corvette Challenge race change their engines overnight from Sat. to Sun. The engine were "sealed" by SCCA so supposed to all be equal.
Keith, it is looking like it is actually number 88 which would have been driven by dave onhis event. I found the results for the mid ohio event and Peter Schwartzott wa driving number 88 in that event. Thats the one log entry that mentions him having to have his helmet sticker updated.
I love these races. Team Isuzu! too bad there were undoubtedly the slowest of the bunch. The hardbodies and rangers truly dominated these races. Ray Kong was driving a mitsubishi in this race, and won a season with nissan. No wonder they can still be found drifting around the track these days.
should have left the video original, the shake fixing really messes up the aspect ratio and motion of the film 21:20 area it gets real chopped up. Please re-upload with no editing!
Good old American Sports Cavalcade on TNN. Great mix of different types of racing. Miss those days!
This racing was so fun! This should be done again. Oh, wait, no one makes compact pickups, anymore.
idriwzrd yeah. The current Colorado is the same size as a 70s full size C10

this is pretty damn interesting actually, never knew this series existed
wow just wow, what fantastic racing
that was an awesome race! thank you for posting...
Somebody should definately make a mod for Asseto Corsa or Rfactor based on this racing series.
To see a stock mini truck racing on stock tires is crazy if you have more of these tapes please upload them
Amazing how a front solid axle truck could beat all those other trucks.
mike joy just used ur vid in a tweet lol. to show the origin of the scca trucks and also that they INVENTED bump drafting.

So this is the beginning of the "tandem draft"...
Shaun, I would love to see the series results if those are available, and see who drove your truck.
anyway, what is bobby archer driving? is that a jeep Comanche?
yep
Any chevy s10's there?
how many megapixels was the calculator this was filmed on?
Hey, they used only the finest multi-pixel equipment back in 1987.
"had" not "have"
Ford "Rancher"
LOL

Shame they were all 4 cylinder trucks. And it was mostly a manufacturers promotional race. It also didn't last long.
