    And now it's in the middle of the DFW suburbs.
    A high school teacher told me about this track when I said I played soccer at Green Valley park.

    My grand father is Charlie Selix, he passed away when I was still pretty young and I love getting to see he's memorialized through the internet. My father, Richard Selix has a whole photo album dedicated to the time he worked with my grandfather and protofab, hoping to upload them someday.

    We lived 3 or 4 miles from this track, used to ride my dirt bike to and from the races on Wednesday nights.

    Oh yea! Green Valley, Where I started racing in 1963 with my Lotas 11 La Mans then in 64 I bought my 1962 Shelby Cobra and ran at Green Valley every chance I got. Drove the Cobra through the run offs in 1967 and figured out what it was worth. Traded an old AH Sprite to a friend for his 65 Mustang coupe which ran Trans Am. Ran it off and on for several years. When they had the first "Trans Am" in 66/67? I was chief if timing and scoring and built the new timing tower. In 84 I was in New York and missed this one. Green Valley Raceway was a wonderful and challenging track. I loved it!!

    This is absolute chaos. Parts flying off of cars, people constantly spinning out, and a crazy track to add to it all. I LOVE IT!

    I lived 1/4 mile from the end of the track then and now I live 1 mile from where the track was. Miss the sound in the air.

      I grew up on Bursey. The sound of the cars rattled the walls inside our house!

    I was there. They had a Can Am race the same day. I understand the event was put on by the same people who did the F1 race in Dallas earlier in the year. I think that's where all the concrete barriers came from.
    The race course was made up of the drag strip, the return roads and the staging lanes. It was never built as a road course. I saw a number of races on the road course. The SCCA and a small organization called Green Valley Racing Association held events there. I also saw many of the big name drag racers of the 80s race on the drag strip..

    I never watched this race (I was born in 1997), and I must say, this race was a demolition derby!

    Thanks for the video. That track was such a s**thole! Drove it once...but there wasn't a whole lotta choice in Texas back then: Texas World Speedway and airport circuits. Green Valley is a subdivision now...

      There is still some remnants. I was there today. Picked up a few pieces of the track that was left behind as souvenirs. You can still see what’s left on Google maps. The sad part is that the majority living in that neighborhood probably have no clue what all used to be where their house is.

    0:18 Hold up, Trans-Am raced Daytona?!

    • @RandysRacingPlace633
      @RandysRacingPlace633  Год назад

      Yes, in the very beginning of the series as part of the 24 hours of Daytona and again sometime in the 1980s as the Paul Revere 250 that was the same weekend as the Firecracker 400. In fact, if you search orionbbs's channel, he posted a partial broadcast that TNN's American Sports Cavalcade did of the 1983 race.

    Good Times watching many drag races, but why would SCCA sanction a race at a track like this?
