Have any of you older guys been to the "Bobtail 500" at Pocono ? I went 2 years, I think '82 and '83 maybe ? They were running tandem axle back then, but I think the back one might have just been a tag. I remember they announced that Charlie Baker in his W900 had an average lap speed of 120mph, and was hitting 150 on the long front straightaway !! 2 1/2 mile tri-oval that NASCAR runs on. huh are these genuine souped up semi tractors? or just tube frame trucks made to look like them like the nastruck series, and second at salem the track that took the life of soo many racers like rich vogler and banked like talledega, judus priest anathama sit I mean to say I dont belive it its interesting but I dont belive it and on a track that high banked those cant be too easy to wheel something that big even if they modify them to make them lighter and more tolerant of the high speeds, never been there but been to winchester the other super highbanked track in indiana and part of the high banks challenge, and I can say I love the place its like a superspeedway but its like going back in time to avilla baer field and eldora before it was built up a home town track but world famed and world class racing and 100 percent hoosier especially with openwheel cars and all kinds of crazy racing machines that take to the tracks here.
Genuine semi trucks but with a proper cage, seat and other safeties for sure! 👍🏻 We are a 33 degree bank whereas Winchester is a 37 degree bank. We love the idea of the Hoosier High Banks series! Come check us out some time and thanks for watching!
@@TheSalemSpeedway eh yea thats what I was told by a friend that used to race and him and his dad did track service and pushtruck at baer field when it was running, said hes been in all kinds of race cars usually as a substatute driver named dustin or dusty wallace, said these things run up to a v 12 and are extraordnarly loud, I would have thought would have been less loud due to the lower higher torque rpms of diesle engines usually. and that this was kind of dying out as it is kind of dangerous so many have moved to circle tracks, up till yesterday didn't know they would race semi trucks its a lot of weight and mass moving seems would be hard to steer even with power steering, and hitting a catch wall with that kind of speed I imagine would hit like a wrecking ball, and just so surprised to see this at such a high banked track meaning more sustained speed in the turns, salem is one of the highest banked tracks in the world 33 degrees same as talledega I belive, and as you point out winchester is higher and holds the record for highest active banking though there were a few others like the old board tracks and maybe places like the terremar in spain and maybe the one turn at monza that hasn't been used in decades, though winchester did have 45 degrees as you problably know when it was dirt, and was said to be the very first 1/2 mile built for autosports not being a horse track or say a velodrom. been to winchester for the vogler classic last 2 years and love it, but the banking is insane the silver crowns look like bobsleads on the banks and look as though they are trying to fend the wall right off the track like a football player blocking an opponant or hockey player trying to veer off someone trying to get the puck from them. Its why I coined the term on the rails racing wheels to the walls as crown racing has a lot of conservation and strategy during its long races but still very fast open wheel racing like the earliest days of racing when it was on horsetracks in runnabouts, or coupe roadster type cars that predate even the indy motor speedway to which the crowns are a remnent of those type of full size front engine cars , though there are few mile state fairs around anymore and still cant belive they changed the one in indy to make it only good to park on or do harness racing, would have been nice if they kept at least the half mile there to race on, would have been win win, still could have the big mile but we could still have flattrack racing and silver crown at the track of champions, and still had a big dirt track in indy they got every other kind of track but a long dirt track unless maybe irp wants to put up a 1/2 or larger or put dirt down, or maybe put a longer turn out on one side of the turn 3 track at the brickyard just takes the will to do it and the money for it. I do appreciate you responding back in and official capacity and sarry for my rambling, maybe I will come down one day but its soo far from up by fort wayne to drive down and back late at night when a race gets done.
@@TheSalemSpeedway also I like the fact we have some of the highest banked race tracks in the world, would love a dirt race on one in indiana, though when I saw mr shaw the owner of winchester he said he wouldn't do it there too much dirt and money for good clay and another guy that knew him was talking to me and him after the vogler classic in 2022 said the with that high of banking the dirt would likly fall down and make a burm at the bottom and said something like that happed at bristol when they did it or at some raceway and the dirt would roll down making a burm at the bottom and increasing the danger, though I would love to see a second dirt silver crown race in indiana beside terre haute if even just 1 time or 2 since the 2021 hoosier hundred that was supposed to be at the indy mile got canceled cuz they couldn't wait one month to start converting to limestone which had been put off because of the pandemic. just one time I would love to see it, but no one builds 1/2s much anymore and the perpensity is to make tracks shorter and flatter so the drivers have to drive them more and battle more, but you cant have nascar or silver crown on anything less then a 1/2 though they did have that one race on the 4/10ths at berlin in marn michigan some years ago.

@@TheSalemSpeedway yea I can write a doctoral lenght thesis on something, just ask history mystery man, don, I am sure you know him I belive he has worked for or helped with events at salem and winchester , hes interviewed many figures in midwest racing. was the announcer at limaland and worked for winchester at the time covid hit and everyone was kept apart by the 6 foot rule, saddly I have yet to see him in person even at the same events he is at, and belive me I have glanced around for him. long and short of it first time at a racetrack was monstertruck night at avilla in 1992 then talked about sprint cars and they had them at the track early 1993 remembered how I saw them and all their funny lookingness in 1988 on espn likely thursday night or saturday night thunder, cant even remember what track that was I remeber seeing one of them loos a header pipe in the episode but cant find it online for the life of me looking for it, thats kind of where I got my start watching racing, didn't get to see dirt till eldora in 1994 thought it was neat the cars actually broadslided though the turns and how they would spray dirt on the wall as they went by and liked it just cuz well it was something I didn't have usually, liked it but then my cousins that took me to races had a son and had to save money and spend time with him, end era 1 of watching racing live saw a few races on tv like knoxville and eldora on tv and I think the hoosier 100 part of it on I think speed, and me recognising some of the names as sprint car drivers me not knowing the cars were differant and a foot longer, then 2019 litteraly 21 years after seeing a race with the sod series at angola in 1998 saw 410 sprints racing at jacksonvill illinose being streamed and the bug bit me again wanting to go see a race again live, and seeing they had some dirt racing at baer field wanted to go see them have a sprint car race there but never got time with that friend that year ran out of time, and the raceway never reopened, and the sons of the owner that passed away didn't want to be absentee owners living in colorado so they didn't renew the lease that dave muzzillo who is distant relation on moms side of the family had as promotor and they told him to vacate, and the raceway was sold after 2 years some guys wanted to reopen it but got outbid by gm to use as a test track who then I guess decided it was too small to test their silverados on so sold it back to the airport and as of at least a few monthes ago was still there forlorn but intact, rumor states they are wating for someone to come along to develop it but on line people state they have no intention of letting it be used to race that is what people say but I know not if its true, so 2020 rolls around little to no racing so started watching bracket racing since was the only racing on really 2021 rolls around and talked of going to indy for the last hoosier 100 or that new track circle city, though more of going to something that was after reading on it a very old and venerable race and wanted to see the last one, hundred not held was devistated, felt and still feel betrayed by the state fair, left usac in a bind and held an event at terre haute and ended up going to the maiden run at circle city, which also was on tony stewards 50th birthday had the all star circut three quarter midgets and the 410 winged sprints, first feature won by local to indy racer sunshine tyler courtney who would have been the last hoosier 100 chamion if covid didn't put off and give us one more hoosier in 2020 so closed out one era of racing or would have, and opened as first feature winner at the newest track in indy, been kind of my favorit driver in 410's when hes at a race I am watching, have come to appreciate others though especially zeb wise who is a north indiana native like me, I used to have family that lived on the lake in angola zeb grew up on. when given the choice its the native born drivers from indiana or the local one, but do appreciate and respect others that are transplants too, kody swanson, justin grant, tmez, taylor ferns, kaylee bryson, and when he was racing bryan tyler as i used to cheer on his brother in the first era of watchin sprint car races at avilla and baer field, and if doing well shane cottle, or Brady Bacon as he is the promotor for the Vogler classic and have talked a bit with him after the race while he was up at the snack bar having a beer while I was standing there chatting with Tom Bigalow, and I respect what logan sevey has done in a short time but he seems to be the foil to the drivers I am rooting for and i mentioned thus at the 4 crown nationals and he said akin to well I hope I blow them out of the water, when I mentioned the drivers that I like, I am sure he was just razzing me, but he did sweep the usac divisions last year something only Jack Hewit and Kyle larson have done of course, last year was one for the books though they revived the hoosier hundred but on pavement, though I think most of us would love to see it on dirt and even bobby santos 3 who won carb nights silver crown race 2 years in a row stated at its heart it should be at the indiana state fair, I got to see little 500 champ tyler rocket rorigh podium there, and got to see the eldora million as well as the last race determining the champion of the origional allstar circute of champions, though I have read in the dirt tracker daily comments that high limit will bring back the name eventually a few years down the road. anywhoo I took long enough typing this and all its bad grammor.

Boogity boogity boogity let's go racing drivers.

I saw Diesel truck racing at the infamous Altamont raceway Park in the late 90's
It was awesome
We think the truck races are pretty cool too! Number of views says a lot about the #racefans!
the k 100 was represented but it would of been better to see a aerodine
huh are these genuine souped up semi tractors? or just tube frame trucks made to look like them like the nastruck series, and second at salem the track that took the life of soo many racers like rich vogler and banked like talledega, judus priest anathama sit
I mean to say I dont belive it its interesting but I dont belive it and on a track that high banked those cant be too easy to wheel something that big even if they modify them to make them lighter and more tolerant of the high speeds, never been there but been to winchester the other super highbanked track in indiana and part of the high banks challenge, and I can say I love the place its like a superspeedway but its like going back in time to avilla baer field and eldora before it was built up a home town track but world famed and world class racing and 100 percent hoosier especially with openwheel cars and all kinds of crazy racing machines that take to the tracks here.
Genuine semi trucks but with a proper cage, seat and other safeties for sure! 👍🏻
We are a 33 degree bank whereas Winchester is a 37 degree bank. We love the idea of the Hoosier High Banks series!
Come check us out some time and thanks for watching!
@@TheSalemSpeedway eh yea thats what I was told by a friend that used to race and him and his dad did track service and pushtruck at baer field when it was running, said hes been in all kinds of race cars usually as a substatute driver named dustin or dusty wallace, said these things run up to a v 12 and are extraordnarly loud, I would have thought would have been less loud due to the lower higher torque rpms of diesle engines usually.
and that this was kind of dying out as it is kind of dangerous so many have moved to circle tracks,
up till yesterday didn't know they would race semi trucks its a lot of weight and mass moving seems would be hard to steer even with power steering, and hitting a catch wall with that kind of speed I imagine would hit like a wrecking ball, and just so surprised to see this at such a high banked track meaning more sustained speed in the turns, salem is one of the highest banked tracks in the world 33 degrees same as talledega I belive, and as you point out winchester is higher and holds the record for highest active banking though there were a few others like the old board tracks and maybe places like the terremar in spain and maybe the one turn at monza that hasn't been used in decades, though winchester did have 45 degrees as you problably know when it was dirt, and was said to be the very first 1/2 mile built for autosports not being a horse track or say a velodrom.
been to winchester for the vogler classic last 2 years and love it, but the banking is insane the silver crowns look like bobsleads on the banks and look as though they are trying to fend the wall right off the track like a football player blocking an opponant or hockey player trying to veer off someone trying to get the puck from them.
@@manga12 - It's a pleasure! There's a lot of history in what you're saying and we appreciate the chat. If we're talking about racing, we're probably have a good conversation!
@@TheSalemSpeedway yea I can write a doctoral lenght thesis on something, just ask history mystery man, don, I am sure you know him I belive he has worked for or helped with events at salem and winchester , hes interviewed many figures in midwest racing. was the announcer at limaland and worked for winchester at the time covid hit and everyone was kept apart by the 6 foot rule,
saddly I have yet to see him in person even at the same events he is at, and belive me I have glanced around for him.
long and short of it first time at a racetrack was monstertruck night at avilla in 1992 then talked about sprint cars and they had them at the track early 1993 remembered how I saw them and all their funny lookingness in 1988 on espn likely thursday night or saturday night thunder, cant even remember what track that was I remeber seeing one of them loos a header pipe in the episode but cant find it online for the life of me looking for it, thats kind of where I got my start watching racing, didn't get to see dirt till eldora in 1994 thought it was neat the cars actually broadslided though the turns and how they would spray dirt on the wall as they went by and liked it just cuz well it was something I didn't have usually, liked it but then my cousins that took me to races had a son and had to save money and spend time with him, end era 1 of watching racing live saw a few races on tv like knoxville and eldora on tv and I think the hoosier 100 part of it on I think speed, and me recognising some of the names as sprint car drivers me not knowing the cars were differant and a foot longer, then 2019 litteraly 21 years after seeing a race with the sod series at angola in 1998 saw 410 sprints racing at jacksonvill illinose being streamed and the bug bit me again wanting to go see a race again live, and seeing they had some dirt racing at baer field wanted to go see them have a sprint car race there but never got time with that friend that year ran out of time, and the raceway never reopened, and the sons of the owner that passed away didn't want to be absentee owners living in colorado so they didn't renew the lease that dave muzzillo who is distant relation on moms side of the family had as promotor and they told him to vacate, and the raceway was sold after 2 years some guys wanted to reopen it but got outbid by gm to use as a test track who then I guess decided it was too small to test their silverados on so sold it back to the airport and as of at least a few monthes ago was still there forlorn but intact, rumor states they are wating for someone to come along to develop it but on line people state they have no intention of letting it be used to race that is what people say but I know not if its true, so 2020 rolls around little to no racing so started watching bracket racing since was the only racing on really 2021 rolls around and talked of going to indy for the last hoosier 100 or that new track circle city, though more of going to something that was after reading on it a very old and venerable race and wanted to see the last one, hundred not held was devistated, felt and still feel betrayed by the state fair, left usac in a bind and held an event at terre haute and ended up going to the maiden run at circle city, which also was on tony stewards 50th birthday had the all star circut three quarter midgets and the 410 winged sprints, first feature won by local to indy racer sunshine tyler courtney who would have been the last hoosier 100 chamion if covid didn't put off and give us one more hoosier in 2020 so closed out one era of racing or would have, and opened as first feature winner at the newest track in indy, been kind of my favorit driver in 410's when hes at a race I am watching, have come to appreciate others though especially zeb wise who is a north indiana native like me, I used to have family that lived on the lake in angola zeb grew up on. when given the choice its the native born drivers from indiana or the local one, but do appreciate and respect others that are transplants too, kody swanson, justin grant, tmez, taylor ferns, kaylee bryson, and when he was racing bryan tyler as i used to cheer on his brother in the first era of watchin sprint car races at avilla and baer field, and if doing well shane cottle, or Brady Bacon as he is the promotor for the Vogler classic and have talked a bit with him after the race while he was up at the snack bar having a beer while I was standing there chatting with Tom Bigalow, and I respect what logan sevey has done in a short time but he seems to be the foil to the drivers I am rooting for and i mentioned thus at the 4 crown nationals and he said akin to well I hope I blow them out of the water, when I mentioned the drivers that I like, I am sure he was just razzing me, but he did sweep the usac divisions last year something only Jack Hewit and Kyle larson have done of course, last year was one for the books though they revived the hoosier hundred but on pavement, though I think most of us would love to see it on dirt and even bobby santos 3 who won carb nights silver crown race 2 years in a row stated at its heart it should be at the indiana state fair, I got to see little 500 champ tyler rocket rorigh podium there, and got to see the eldora million as well as the last race determining the champion of the origional allstar circute of champions, though I have read in the dirt tracker daily comments that high limit will bring back the name eventually a few years down the road.
anywhoo I took long enough typing this and all its bad grammor.
i picked that blue truck it was second yea
Europe is or was big on this kind of racing. But they mainly race on road courses, not ovals.
How come thete is no HUD TO watch the stats where is everyone else running and how about a lap count so we know what lap they are on
Excellent feedback. We are working on it! Thanks for watching.
I’m wondering how fast they were going. That’s the only way to race get out front and not letting anyone pass
These trucks reach speeds up to 120mph!
That wasn't a drop them mic. Moment, but rather a throw away the mic. one instead.
👍
🫡
I noticed no cabovers.
👀 do we have any cab over drivers willing to take up the challenge out there??
first 12 mins. are a waste of time
We are new to the world of RUclips and appreciate the feedback, we really do. Until we get our editing skills dialed in, we hope you keep watching, letting us know how we are doing and use the ffwd function any time you like. 👍🏻
So if you were at track you would be complaining of the progress of the show? Are you aware that in real life at a track, this is how things progress? As for You Tube. there is this thing called a fast forward button, use it if you have a short attention span.
So what motors are they running?
Stock motors for the trucks. Enjoy!
Nice equipment Announcers! 1 mic & it fails. Lol
We humans don't get it right all the time but thanks for watching and we'll keep working on it! 👍
If they are the 13 best in the country . Why not have them race the pocono raceway ? That hasn’t happened since I was a young boy .
Drivers come from all over to race at The Salem Speedway and we hope you like the show! Pocono is a pretty cool race track too although it's very different. 2.5 miles in length and called "The Tricky Triangle" and we are a .555 mile oval. We aren't sure the big rigs ever raced there but that sure would be awesome!
i guess three wide is out of the question.
You never know…
bracking to meanny pave ment
🤔 hmm
Running about 80 i guess
Top speed 120mph!
Spee?? Give their speeds!!! It's a race!!!
check kurt goranson from sweden!!!!!
pretty bloody boring looked like there were only two trucks racing very little of the others were shown
Thanks for watching and giving the feedback!
FYI: Europe, race these things.
Cant even hear the trucks in this video :(
Why are t here kids out in middle of track
Fans of all ages!
water cooled brakes is nothing new. The loggers north of the border on the west coast the last I knew were still using water injectors in the brakes.
If you've been lap'd why not gtf off the track then... seriously?..
You never know...it's racing! Thanks for watching.
Day cab, not a simi
You’re right. They’re too fast to be called a sleeper. 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻🏁

Good to see Canadian fans!
When you are doing drivers interdocing why can't you start from the front row to the back row? I hate that starting from the back row. I would like all drivers interdocing from the front row to the back okay please and thank you. Introduction from the front row mike Morgan and right beside him truck number 30 and all the way back row okay. Please and thank you sincerely Christopher wright let's go racing for the drivers interdocing from the front row to the last row.
