I listened to the commentary during this scene, and I think it was the director who said that not all actors can hold your attention when the camera is on their face for that long, but Kristen totally does. You can see so much emotion in her face, just changing ever so slightly for the 20 seconds or however long they linger there, which is actually a pretty long time. Some actors use big movements and loud voices, and some use subtle vocal tones and incremental physical changes; neither is better acting than the other; they're just different forms of acting, and they can both convey so much.
