    I have a 98 MTD tractor Tecumseh engine and I have a Toro tractor with Brigs and Stratton. The used Toro came with a Kawasaki filter if I remember. I have been using an STP 3512 on my MTD since new. It fits all tractors. I've posted this since I got my first computer. The STP is rated very good and the gasket is thick and easy to seal

    I run the FL-400S on my 28HP commercial turf motor in my ZTR because it is horizontal mount so I have room to run the longer filter, it is a very nice option for 3 or 4 bucks assuming you have room to fit it.

  • @dwendt44

    3614 works on many Ford and Chrysler products. Next size up is the 3600 but lawn tractors and Zero turns often if not usually has frame parts or steering shafts in the way. Briggs, Kawasaki, and Kohler engines all can use this filter. The SuperTech Wal-mart filters are $3.

  • @PackedFunk
    @PackedFunk 4 года назад +3

    Good tips. I also run a SuperTech 3614 on my Mower. The 3600 filter has no anti- drain back valve.

    • @johnnybarbar7435
      @johnnybarbar7435 4 года назад +6

      3600 definitely does have an anti drain back valve in it. Where did you get your incorrect information? The only difference between the 3" long 3614 and the 5" long 3600 is their length. They both have 12 psi bypass valves and ADBV's (anti drain....)

    • @Iatolaazzahola
      @Iatolaazzahola 3 года назад +1

      So how long have you been running the 3614 on your mower? Have you seen any difference in the way the oil looks when it comes time to change it? There is very little oil pressure on these engines, never knew if you could actually get away with doing this.

    The primary difference between the Briggs spark plug and the regular Champion spark plug is the Briggs has been gapped for the Briggs engine and you will have to check the gap/and or re-gap the Champion plug to your particular application, probably .030. So you are paying an additional $2 for them to gap the plug for you for a Briggs engine.

    • @beaker501

    • @curlybrownk9
      @curlybrownk9 4 года назад +1

      All spark plugs should be gapped before installing, they are never at the right gap, and no two sparks have the same gap. They get bumped and dropped all the time.

      @johnclarke6647 4 года назад +1

      curlybrownk9 I agree, but I have Lund spark plugs from my Stihl dealer are pretty close and Bosch and NGK fall into the same criteria. I always check the gap before installing them but I do not buy spark plugs from discount auto type stores. I also put a light coat of anti-seize on the threads and dialectic grease on the insulator and tip, so I can get the boot off in the future and unscrew the plug from the cylinder. I am old school.

    Don't use Fram PH filters. They are cheep because they are cheep. Probably the worst filter you can get.
    The Fram XG filters are very good filters. Their best and comparable to Wix/Napa Gold.
    The XG3614 and XG4967 fit Briggs and Kawasaki engines.

  • @G56AG
    @G56AG 4 года назад +2

    Best thing to do is to look at your original filter, then you can cross reference it to a proper fit in a different brand, I'm using a Purolator oil filter I originally got at WalMart, then they quit carrying that brand, now I get them from a local auto parts store. Knowing the cheap construction of the Fram filter there is no way I'll use them on any vehicle or equipment I own. My Briggs engine came with Champion spark plugs in it, so that's pretty easy.

    Purolator PL10241 ! Just did my Toyota 4Runner, I noticed the filter looks similar and sure enough it's the same thread, same diameter gasket...but about an inch longer and probably of better quality. Filter is a Purolator "One" PL10241 . I searched youtube to see if anyone else figured this out. Another thing, Rotella 10/30 is a better and cheaper oil for this and small engines. Also, When the season ends, make the last tank of fuel you run be fuel be all AvGas 100LL You can buy it at the local muni airport. It's for small prop planes. I believe it has a 1 or 2 year claimed shelf life but i've had it in a generator 4 yrs and it doesn't break down. It also runs cooler. It's great to run as at the end of the season on lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws...anything that will sit for a few months.

    Just make sure you understand the full specs of the original filter before swapping it out for something different. The filters are also designed to help hold the oil pressure at a specified psi level while the engine is operating. The psi level affects the flow of oil. Too high or too low and it can damage your engine or cause it to wear out sooner.

    I recently bought a gray market hinomoto tractor. The oil filter is the same color as the motor from when it was imported and refurbished. So I looked for a filter, $20 because reasons. I then took the filter number and cross referenced it. The results were underwhelming so I used its domestically imported cousins Massey Ferguson and Allis Chalmers and cross referenced them and hundreds populated. Rather than paying $20 for one filter I can get four filters.
    I know, I know, I knoowww... you would never use an off label part on your daily driver. Right?
    I will use gray market tractors as an example the vast amount of tractors are made in Japan. Yes even the green ones. By a handful of manufacturers for a world market. The same holds true for oem and aftermarket parts production, in fact there are only a handful of automotive battery manufacturers worldwide the oem battery in your car may be off the same assembly line as the economy battery at your parts store. Albeit not of the same quality.
    Why would this be important? Think supply lines, if brand x is not available what else can be used?

    Fram filters suck they have cardboard ends that hold the filter media in place. And they fail

      You can always use "SuperTech" by Walmart and it's cheaper. This guy here "open" most of the "Brand" for you to see. Here is his Video: ruclips.net/video/VzCqjZgIMBk/видео.html

      Do some research on their line of synthetic filters, they are some of the best out there

    • @dwendt44
      @dwendt44 4 года назад

      It's not cardboard; it's a fiber disc that works well on several other brands of filters as well. SuperTech, some Wix, Champion filters use the fiber discs on some of their filters.

    Your filter selection is not helpful at all, nothing you say makes any sense or could help identifying a filter for a person's mower. You could explain what you are talking about, why would I use Saturn or Ford to locate a filter for a mower made by a completely different company? Video absolutely terrible.
