I'm 99.9%sure that the handles are the the only reason those chipping hammers are still in production. The hammer part couldn't chip the skin off custard.
@@chilant Just because you want to roll them as is traditional, doesn't mean everyone has to do what you do. Everyone will make it their own and that's cool.
I know this is an older video and I'm about 2 years late but vinegar works great at removing mill scale. Overnight soak in it will dissolve all of the mill scale and you can get a few uses out of the vinegar before it slows down. I used 6% strength.
Best bbq channel on RUclips hands down. I get excited every time you post and I’ve successfully watched every single episode you’ve dropped. Also a supporter on Patreon. 🤙
Hey man I'm a rookie welder so am always looking for information about everything. One thing I saw a welder doing when using flux core wire he took the gas nozzle/ tip off because you don't need it when there is no gas. I think it stops grounding the tip accidentally but I would think that would be hard to do anyway. I am welding flux core wire now much easier. Don't know if this is correct but hey, seems to be good. Love your videos mate. Hi from NZ
Good for you Brad, keep up the hard work. I’ve been a welder for 45 years. I now have my own shop where I work at home and I build pits. I also built my own smoke shack/saloon where I do a lot of my cooking would love to send you a picture but I’m not sure how to do that.
I'm from Brazil, have been following you since you had about 5k followers, and I always check the counting every time you post a video. Super glad you've made to the 20k mark. Pretty soon 100k is going to be there. Best bbq channel out there.
Hi from Australia!!! Enjoy your channel very much! I love the energy and enthusiasm you put in the video. The food and equipment that you produce are very inspiring also. Thank you!!
Would that setup work for corn tortillas as well? Also, would a very slight gap be appropriate? Like 1/32”? Just metal on metal would make it slightly thinner on the back. I would think so anyway.
Your Seriously blessed to do what you love....I cant wait to get there one day and to me your channel is one of the best out there....!! love the Comical Expressions as well and your little buddy ( dog ) I bet loves your bbq...✌✌
Just made a 9x9 version of this and you were right. Grinding that mill scale off was the worst part of this build. P.S. your welds look 1,000 times better than mine! Lol
Right on buddy !!! Rackin up them followers!! Don’t change a thing, your videos/cooks/builds are epic! Love this freakin channel. Keep up the great work Bradillac 👍👍 #bootsnakeforeverforeversnakeboot
This is perfect timing. I've been looking for a press. I'm going to build this one. Something very satisfying about building useful cooking utensils. Thanks for the tips!
Awesome videos and Grinding mill scale sucks, take it From a Toolmaker/ Fabricator. May I suggest using muriatic acid to strip the mill scale. Its quick and easy. You can get it in a hardware store and dilute with water in a spray bottle, NOTE always add the acid to the water not water to acid, so fill the bottle with water first then add the acid. Use a plastic pan outside and spray on the surface, it will foam up when working on the scale then rinse in a bucket of water. Or if you order P&O steel, (pickled and oiled) its already done for a few bucks more. Another option is vinegar but I heard it takes a while but have not tried it, you may want to soak some for a few days to see of it works. Smoke-On
@@ChudsBbq Yeah definitely do it outside! It is well worth asking your steel supplier about P&O, the time savings will more than make up the difference on cost.
Nice job, as is sometimes th case, in yer case, ya obnoxious bastard... yet, I keep comin back... make with th tortilla press build vidya soon like, if'n ya can....
Should have put in a spacer before attaching the hinge... You have zero clearance for dough at the hinge end... Giving it a few millimeters would allow for larger tortillas...
I had a tortillas press made here in Philippines. Bought a mixer also. I have a problem maybe someone can help. 1st using the mixer we use a lot more water in our dough to keep it moist, we use heat on our press then take the tortillas to grill to finish cooking but they are coming out tuff. Why?
Just made one and handy tip : soak the plate steel in concentrated cleaning vinegar over night. The mill scale wipes off with a sponge. No grinding needed, saves disks and time.
We just made one of these and getting the temperature right is challenging. The bottom gets so much hotter than the top. Do you have some instruction or advice on this? And how hot do you have it when you use it?
OI Brad you know if you soak those plates in white vinegar over night that mill scale will wipe straight off right ? look m8 im a blacksmith ( if you mention fugged in fire im coming to get yu ! ) mill scale is fe204 or 302 i forget (one is mill scale one is rust) it dissolves in vinegar turns black and wipes straight off will save you $2 a time on flap discs .... you sure you dont need some advice i been welding for 35 years?? also a gas welder will stop the need for splatter and oxides clean up saving you 1 min per weld sounds like nothing but your prob making 200 welds on a large chud box ? i could come make them 2 hours and $30+ cheaper per item ....

I found you through Glen And Friends Cooking and think you are amazing and believe you should contract the tortilla Press & sell Millions. Nice, straightforward build, but I did cringe a little when you started removing the mill scale manually. I felt bad for you! Not sure if it is already in the comments, but using a 50 percent muriatic acid to water ratio, soaking for an hour in a plastic tub, then rinsed works wonders. Cheers!

here in east Texas those spring handles cost $1.50 at Matheson. you can get a 20' rod of round stock for about 11 bucks. I keep hearing people talk about repurposing those hammers but really its a waste of money. also check with your local steel supplier most of them sell pre-built spring handles ready to weld on for around 3 bucks.

excellent project video, im about to order some metal parts! I gotta clean all my metal before welding because i wanna tig weld it. stick is too dirty for the ole basement shop.
you can remove mill scale with muriatic acid. The green stuff for painters. Just brush/spray it on then flush it with water and hit it with scotch bright
I had a tortilla press made locally. Your video is really good so all I had to do was email and pay. The only thing I found was that after seasoning everything tasted like steel. Does that go away after a while?
