- 2008 Beetle Tiptronic Magnetic Shift Cover Replacement part 2. part 2 is to completely remove the center console in this 2008 vw beetle automatic with tiptronic and replace the broken dust cover. the shifter dust cover has completely fallen apart and has jammed inside the shifter mechanism so it won't shift smoothly anymore. This part that I'm using to replace the broken one with I found on eBay luckily. let me know if you have any questions. thanks.

After replacing the tiptronic I’m still not able to take my key out and after taking the console out my radio doesn’t work. Would you happen to have any advice?

I gota wonder what the engineer was smoking when they decided to tie shift functions to a small piece of flimsy plastic and some magnets vs literally every other car manufacture does not have this BS. Such a janky mechanism

I got it on eBay. Part numbers that I found I put on video descriptions in one of the videos or both I can’t remember.
Wish you provided the part number and how you found it. my only solution right now is a $450 dealer part . . . just to replace something they spent $3 on new.
I did provide the part numbers. It’s on the first video description. I bought on eBay used.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore I have looked up every part number you provided and none are the strip with the magnetic slider same as you show in the second video. Some are previous model part numbers and some are complete assemblies from previous models. I reckon you got real lucky. Thanks for posting.

Hey, how did you connect the reverse input for your back up camera?
I have no idea of to find the reverse signal wire for it. I’m thinking about just running a long wire all the way to the back rear lights but a connection right near dashboard would be best. I have a 2002 vw golf gti 1.8t mk4. But I have the same or similar tiptronic transmission as your car
I just used the stereo harness to connect everything if I remember correctly. It worked great. We sold the car.

Andrew I found it online on eBay. but I put a link in the description of the part numbers at local dealerships. they certainly make it hard to locate these parts. there isn't much out there for how to fix it either. so that's why I made the video. good luck.

I have a 2006 VW New Beetle 2.5L Convertible I need to this same thing. This looks like a nightmare of a job to do. With all the brittle plastic. I'm in fear to attempt this job. The brittle plastic is what fears me.
If you need to replace the cover, their isn’t much else you can do. You could pay a shop to do it but they’ll charge a lot. And it may take forever for them to get to it. It’s not too bad. I’m tall and it was not terrible. I hope you’re not too tall. As it’s tight in the car.

I think there is a slot in a lot of cars to put a small tool into to change gears without the car being on. It’s near shifter.

Sorry I am not sure what you mean. Everything worked Great when I was finished. The tiptronic also. Maybe you’re having other problems?
I maybe wrong..mine is a 2.5 6speed which allows you to run auto and manual. I'm having trouble knowing where the magnets need to go for the manual indicators to work.

Oh that was a knock off pioneer. Just can’t remember the name of it. I’m sorry. We sold the car right after I fixed the shifter cover.
