hello Roli. Thank you for your help. I was able to replace the shift indicator box on my 2009 VW Beetle with automatic transmission and put everything back together. However, now I can't get the button on the gear shift shaft to work. I cannot push on it to shift gears. Any tips would be appreciated if you're still checking this thread.
Try to remove the outer cap and turn it as you put it back. Don’t push it all the way in until you feel that you can push in button in order shift. I think I had the same issue and that’s how I figured it out.
thank you for the help. I gota wonder what the engineer was smoking when they decided to tie shift functions to a small piece of flimsy plastic and some magnets vs literally every other car manufacture does not have this BS. Such a janky mechanism
@@rolymb where is the adjustment for the handbrake to go higher? I pulled all the way up and there is still not enough clearance to slide the console up.
@@rolymb lol, that doesn’t tell us much. Underneath where? It may have been helpful to show this part in the video. The console can’t come up and out if the handbrake doesn’t go up high enough.
@@harleyrider9166 if you look under the hand break by the floor board you will see a king screw. Loosen it up enough until the hand break goes up. Just remember to screw it back to the proper position.
Thanks Roli! I just bought a beetle for my kid. I need to replace this very same part. Your video is very helpful! Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow Roli, you are very handy.

Where did you buy your shift indicator?
I believe I bought it from EBay.
Did you have to loosen the hand brake to lift out the console? I don’t think the hand brake goes high enough for the console to slide up.
Yes, otherwise you will not be able to slide out the center console .
