Thanks for the tips! I downsized from a BMW to a Tuareg 660 last year and absolutely love it! I have put about 4000 miles on it including the MABDR. What an easy handling, low CG, nimble bike to ride. I feel it perfectly bridges the gap between the luxuries of big bikes like the BMW with the off-road capabilities of lighter dirt oriented bikes that I just do not enjoy when I have to log road miles. Doing 75mph on cruise control fully loaded is smoother than my F800GSA. The no stop required switch between ride modes is flawless. I have had zero mechanical problems with the bike. I have T-Rex racing accessories (center stand, hand guards, light guard, etc) and really like them. I've added the quick shifter (awesome) and MIA bluetooth.
Hey there! Your description of the Tuareg being a bridge with bigger bikes and smaller dualsports is spot on. I completely agree. The cruise control and the easy switch of ride modes is a HUGE plus for this bike. Nothing is more frustrating than having to stop between road/ofrroad and change the riding modes. Being able to switch on the fly has truly spoiled me in the best way. This is as close to getting a unicorn 🦄 as manufacturers have gotten in my opinion. T-Rex makes some great gear. I had their skid plate and crash bars on my CB500X that I have since sold. Love their stuff! Thanks for watching and thank you for your feedback. 😎

Thanks for the review. I purchased the 660 last month and just completed most of the Idaho BDR last week. Loved the suspension and the handling of the bike as I’ve only been riding dirt for couple years. The stock BS brand lithium ion battery died on me suddenly during a stop after 4-5 days and wouldn’t crank up. The 660 cranked up right away and ran great until after the next day 150 miles later where it wouldn’t crank after a stop before a serious dirt pass climb to elk grade on the BDR. Checked fuses and none were blown this time. The bike fired right up with a portable jump starter and I rode the next 49 miles like a bat out of hell to Yellow Pine without ever stopping for few hours. But the 660 ran great any rpm unlike where it was bogging badly under 3k rpm with the the stock li ion battery. Completed the trip and the AGM battery cranks fine now so it’s a brain twister and looking to investigate what the problemo was on the trail. Otherwise a fantastic Idaho trip and people are so awesome .. and loved the 660.
Thank you for watching TerpLions! And congrats on your new bike. Idaho is a beautiful state what little I saw of it on my Continental Divide trip. I'd love to do the BDR one day for sure. It sounds like you have certainly had your fair share of bad luck with the battery situation. I hate to hear that. Things like that can definitely suck the fun right out of a trip but it's sounds like you made the best of the situation presented to you. Hats off for powering through! I'm glad you shared that experience here for anyone else that might have that issue. The Tuareg has been a blast so far. Hey, great review! Thanks for your effort! The fuel sensor inside the tank appears to be a weak point, had the same flashing fuel gauge issue come up 3-4 weeks into ownership. Then the acceleration block needed to be changed at the initiative of the dealer as the acceleration did not work entirely smooth accross the whole range plus the rubber started to get minute cracks. Then the turn signal button ceased either to initiate or to cancel signaling upon activation by hand. The entire command block on the handlebar was changed. Then a small rubber hose underneath the engine casing (the one recirculating the exhaust gases) developed a bulge signaling the inner metalic layer that strengthens the rubber had given up, pretty much like the walls of a tire after hitting a curb hard. Everything was promptly replaced under warranty by the dealer. The delivery of the parts took about 2-3 weeks (insular Europe). Nothing really major, indeed a bit upsetting to keep going back to the dealer everytime these niggles came up, but i guess inevitable to some extent for a brand new product from Aprilia which had been on the market for under 1.5 years at the time when these issues ocurred on mine (bike is 9 months old now with 4000 miles). Otherwise the bike rides like a dream, sounds great and it always puts a smile on my face. Ride on, mate!
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your experiences mate! That definitely sounds like a rough start to ownership but I'm glad they sorted everything out for you. It has had its quirks, but hard to let it go with all that it offers. It's just so good in so many areas I think companies will have a hard time matching it in the same price range which is great for the riders. Thanks again for watching and ride on!
Thank you for stopping by and watching Alex! The Tuareg is definitely the Swiss army knife in the middleweight class so far. It definitely raises the bar, and even though there are a few things here or there with it, it will push other manufacturers to make their products better which is great for us!

😂 Lol! Thank you awesomerene6814. That means a lot! What an awesome bike we have. I'm excited for the future of the Tuareg. I believe our bike sets the bar for the mid size adventure bike class. Thanks again for watching, and for your support. 👊😎
Thank you for watching Passinthru! I really appreciate your support and hope you're enjoying the ride so far. My next Episode is in the oven, hoping to get through most of it this weekend. Again, thanks for stopping by and saying hi. 👊😎
Correct. I've answered that a few times in the comments. I misspoke and as this video is uncut, I left it. I had been in the airbox multiple times prior and new better, but that is correct. Either way, the induction sound makes a really nice noise, and gets plenty of air flow
Hey Frank! The Tuareg will be quite the upgrade. The KLR is a proven steed no doubt, but when you saddle the Tuareg you'll wonder how you enjoyed anything else. It's a treat man. A huge plus is, that you'll already be used to the weight, but bow you'll have world class suspension and twice the power. Throw in cruise control and you'll be grinning from ear to ear I guarantee it!
Hi mate Paul from Australia I reckon Uni- filters are fantastic, I have used them for many years on my different bikes . I used Uni - Filter in my CRF300 Rally and sent them my airbox from my Moto Guzzi V85tt ( as probably like the 660 the OEM filter was letter dust through. But with my Aussie Uni- Filter “ no dust as all “ now loads of others around the world have been buying them . Also Barkbusters are Australian as well. I do love the 660 .
Thanks for stopping by! No doubt in my mind the funnelweb filter saved my bike along with the unifilter both from Australia. Good to know info about the 300 Rally. My little KTM 390 had a paper filter and didn't let any dust through at all. I was very surprised when the Tuareg was letting it by but thankful the Aussies had a couple solid options to protect the bike. I didn't know that about Barkbusters. That's awesome!
@@advryan1 , I probably worded that wrong, I use a Uni- Filter and testing a Funnel web Pre- filter on my CRF 300 Rally and my Moto Guzzi V85tt sent them my airbox and they developed a fantastic filter that didn’t let any dust in anymore . A good mate of mine runs the Aprilla Torag 660 fb page in Australia.
@@itsallabouttheridekeepingi4449 ahh I see. Very nice! That's definitely one way of doing it. We had discussed doing something similar with an air filter manufacturer on the world owners Facebook forum but the cost was too high and there wasn't enough interest. I was pretty disappointed to open up my airbox and see dust in the intake. There were a few guys who didn't catch it until it was too late and it tanked their engines. For me, I personally recommend changing the oil at half intervals if riding offroad in groups. So 3k mile changes instead of 6k. The Tuareg is an amazing bike, but like all of them, there are a few things to shore up. Definitely the best mid size out there in my opinion! I actually sold mine a few months back as my brother and our riding buddy have 500's now. I've ordered a gold edition AJP PR7 due here end of May. If I ever make the move back to mid size, I don't think I'd question buying the Tuareg again. Amazing bike.
@@advryan1 , ok 👍 good info , the fella I was telling you about that runs the 660 fb also runs the AJPPR7 page ad well , a mate of mine mine . So he owns a 660 and PR7. I had a SWM RS650 ( I don’t believe you got that in the US ) was the enduro version of the Superdual . ( I had both ) the engine that the PR7 runs is from SWM ) and before that was the Husky TE630 engine. A fantastic motor. Actually in the UK they also use that engine in their CCM retro bikes .
@@itsallabouttheridekeepingi4449 oh yea, I may have talked to him. Is it Lindsay Peterson? Seems like a very nice guy if so. I follow a guy on YT called "dirtbikeadv" I think it is. He runs a PR7. The bike seems to have treated people well so far. Really excited to get it
Thanks for the review. I had dust in the airbox, also. Changed to the Uni filter and greased the seals, all good now. How did you install the prefilter? Stock filter position is paper/foam up. Did you install the Uni filter foam side down with web pre-filter on top?
Hey Steve, thank you for watching! The dust situation is unfortunate for sure. So the Unifilter goes in foam up. Basically like it looks on the site. Its definitely confusing I agree. Make sure to oil it as well, as it doesnt come oiled well enough for use. For the pre-filter, I removed the plastic baffle/insert, and put the prefilter in the top side of the box facing up. So the pyramids of the foam are topside facing the sky. I tried to set it on top of the Unifilter, but that makes the box hard to close. Wanted to make sure it was flush so I found it easier to put it in the top of the box first, then set it down on top and secure the hardware. Make sure to oil the pre-filter as well. The pre-filter caught nearly everything. Worked very well!
Where did you get the rear folding brake pedal? Great review. I bought the bike in late October and haven’t had it off-road yet due to winter. I’m getting the quick shifter installed in a couple of weeks, and really looking forward to getting after it once the snow melts and I can get back into the mountains.
Hey man! Thanks for stopping by and watching. The suspension is a joy offroad. Nicest suspension I've ever experienced and is very forgiving. So I got my folding brake foot from "nicecnc" online. Thank you for stopping by Dennis! So I bought both of these bolts from AF1. They have several good aftermarket parts available that beef up the bike. 👍
Hey MrJay, so there is a caviat with that as changing the filter under warranty will void it unfortunately. Right now my bike is covered with the switch as I was approved in writing. Aprilia knows about the issue and has refused to fix it in the states so far. I've been pretty vocal with them about it, and they agreed to cover me which was a surprise. But ONLY because I voiced concern through several phone calls and emails. I suggest documenting everything with them if you decide to switch filters as Aprilia Australia is the only place that has approved the switch. 👍
@@mrjay4000 I wish that were the truth, like many other members on the forums but unfortunately they are not standing behind it in other countries yet. Only Australians are covered under the switch which is problematic for owners outside of Australia. We have moon dust all over the States and that is currently what is getting by the stock filter. I've tried to create as much noise as I can about it and all I got was "we will cover your bike, but we are taking this on a case by case basis." My only real gripe with the bike. Dust in the intake is no Bueno. And members online, mostly a few trolls, discount the filter issue at every turn. Boggles my mind. If you ride in groups you will 100% get dust in the airbox. And for me, that's a problem
Hey MO, the tail rack is made by Hepco and Becker. Solid rack. It's the smaller rack they offer but I didn't want something massive on the back. Several ways to strap things to it as well if you don't run a rotopax. The plus is it looks good with nothing on it! Highly recommend it.
@@themosaito thanks for stopping back by and letting me know Mo! It's a special bike no doubt. Most definitely the best midsize bike on the market. It will serve you well my friend. If you ever have any other questions just let me know. I'm happy to help! 👊
Do you get any rattling or clunking noises from the front, like maybe the tower area while riding rocky roads? My Tuareg sound like it coming apart, but everything is tight.
I never got any clunk or rattle, but I know the mounting point for the tower was weak. Have you inspected it for cracks or anything? I know there have been a few guys who have broken their towers in falls. I doubt that's it but possible.
Thanks, Ryan. Good Kudos to you... Have you received the ecu / electronics recent update on your bike ? If not / so, did you experience any fuelling differences ?
Thank you for stopping by! So I did get by the dealer for a software/ecu update and it did change the fueling a bit. It erased the 4000 rpm blip in the throttle many had. I had spoken with Aprilia USA about the airbox issue and in conversation, they mentioned they were the ones who pushed that update through. I also felt like there was better fueling down low but didn't confirm that. However, the blip is completely gone which was great!
Hi There, can you speak to the motor heat others have stated in other vid's? Looks like your skid plate might add some heat covers around the cat area. Please let me know if you have already done a vid on all the upgrades you have done...or was this video covering all that?
Hey there! 👋 So I wear full gear when riding and my boots protect me from that heat. The only times I've truly felt it was when I hopped on the bike and had blue jeans on. When wearing full gear, it's not noticeable. If you want to remove some of the heat, header wrap is a great choice. It would keep the heat inside the pipe and be forced out of the exhaust keeping the engine cooler. I hadn't noticed any other mods that would help that though.
@@riding4fun40 thank you so much for your support! If you ever have any questions at all just let me know. I'm happy to help. My next episode should be up soon from my Continental Divide trip so stay tuned!

Hey bikealways! I sourced my unifilter from unifilter Australia. I stepped up the shipping 1 notch from standard and it was on my doorstep in a weeks time. Very fast shipping!
Hello, how many liters does your tank fit? My Tuareg 660 model 2022 doesn't fit more than 15.6 liters. I ran the tank completely empty and then filled it up.
Do you know of an upgrade flush mount or lower profile billet replacement fuel cap for the Tuareg it deserves a premium fuel cap all these great parts stock and a $2 plastic cap😅
I know right! I like your line of thinking. And that's how I approached it when I bought my protective crash gear/skid plate. As for the gas cap, I didn't replace that, but yes, it was annoying at times. You may browse around AF1racing. They make a lot for the Tuareg. Not sure if gas caps are on there but they have a lot of goodies for the Aprilia. 👍
It technically sucks air up near the front of the tank. The nostrils don't actually connect/feed directly to the airbox via sealed nostrils, but the idea is high/low air both feed in and the airbox is taking in dust. I misspoke. 👍
@@advryan1 I was hoping you were right lol.. why wouldn’t they make those connect like actual nostrils? Well in hindsight, those would probably also require filters..but it would be dope. How much would you say you spent on the bike after buying it, to bring it up to your spec?
@@FitMuthatrucka I know. I'm not sure why either. And I'd say around a grand or more. The skid came from Italy 🇮🇹 and it was like $500. The crash bars were 350 I think. Rear rack about $150. Headlight guard was aliexpress for like $25. The pivot bolts on the shifter and rear brake levers were like $30 a piece. Not horrible. Just don't cheap out on protection. No heed. No motea. Go quality and you'll thank yourself for sure.
Thanks for the insight man. Have 1600 miles and haven't touched or opened my airbox yet. About to dive head first into purchasing the full off-road loadout for my tuareg and I have a question for you. Do you mind sharing the model number for the filter and pre filters you purchased from austrailia? I would like to do the same for my ride now that my Motoz tires are rolling in soon. Thanks for these update videos! They instill quite the feeling of confidence in the bike's capability.
Hey Jorge, thank you for tuning in, and for your feedback! Yes Sir, I will grab those numbers for you and respond here. Highly recommend the filter/prefilter setup. Dust mixed with oil is a bad combo for sure. Other than that it has been a blast. You are really going to love this bike offroad!
I got those part numbers for you. For the Unifilter Foam Filter: #AU6508 Funnelweb Prefilter: #FWF522 Let me know if you have any other questions at all. Happy to help! 🤘
Hey Jarrod! Thank you for watching brother. The rear rack is a Hepco and Becker mini rack. I'm not sure why it's called a mini rack because it's plenty big enough compared to others, just not too big.
Great question! So technically not connected directly to the airbox, as it takes air in from all around the air box, but I would say a fair amount of air comes from that area, and around the tank with the boot to the airbox being so high.
@@advryan1 the fake vents is one of the reasons I went for the Desert X. Got to test the bike and I did feel it was rhe bike to get for my height and 0 skill, the build quality and mostly the dealer put me off.
@@ciocanelwar love the Desert X. I definitely looked at it hard before buying the Tuareg. Great looking bike. I usually do more offroad than on, so I leaned toward the Tuareg because I had heard it was better offroad, but I'm sure the X is just as capable. I do like the ride modes the Tuareg offered and cruise control so that crossed the T7 off pretty quickly for me. Had the Desert X been available when I made my decision I'm honestly not sure which way I would've went. I do hear the Tuareg is easier to work on, but if it's the bike you want I'm willing to go the extra mile for maintenance honestly. Top 2 bikes on the market in my opinion!
@@advryan1 the Desert X is beyond my skills as is the Tuareg. The DDX gives me a lot of confidence on the road and It feels great even in the limited off-road I am doing, I bet the Touareg would have been more up my alley. Maybe if they fix the things that annoy me (single frame, fake vents make me think it was rushed, I understand there is also some gaskets that's leaking) I will consider exchanging the bike, if I don't get a Africa Twin (just because I lak off-road skills). And as you said, the maintenance is a no issue if you love the bike. I hayed my V-Strom 650xt and I totally disliked removing the tank to change or clean the air filter just because of the damn plastic parts.
@@ciocanelwar I didn't like the single frame either. Seems weird they built it for offroad and made it a single frame. I guess insurance would have to replace the whole bike if damaged which is a pain. Aprilia definitely has some issues to iron out. The air box being #1. Those following in groups, like myself, have had dusted airboxes. Just something to be aware of if you ever do make the switch. Unifilter and prefilter are a must with this bike.

I think every bike has its issues Herr and there. Mine has had the fuel level sensor go bad but that's it. Hasn't broken down on me or anything. It's the best midsize on the market currently so I would disagree.
@nessuno7071 I agree, bike is covered in sh!t parts. Brake pedal is crap aluminum that breaks on impact, shifter lever is crap aluminum that shatters on impact. Footpeg brackets are exposed and have a long thin bolt at the bottom keeping the bracket from bending, which it does easily. Bolt hole on handlebars is too small for decent handguards, muffler bracket is as problematic as the T7. Suspension and center of gravity are great but I ride hard dirt and this thing can't hold up. If your riding style is super tame you'll like it better than I do. I have one and a t7, t7 is bullet proof

😂 Lol! Thank you awesomerene6814. That means a lot! What an awesome bike we have. I'm excited for the future of the Tuareg. I believe our bike sets the bar for the mid size adventure bike class. Thanks again for watching, and for your support. 👊😎
Every video adds to the picture.
Thank you for watching Passinthru! I really appreciate your support and hope you're enjoying the ride so far. My next Episode is in the oven, hoping to get through most of it this weekend. Again, thanks for stopping by and saying hi. 👊😎
Awesome video mate. Getting real. Cheers
Thanks for stopping by and watching!
The faux air ports that you pointed to are blocked-off and do not lead to the air box or anywhere else.
Correct. I've answered that a few times in the comments. I misspoke and as this video is uncut, I left it. I had been in the airbox multiple times prior and new better, but that is correct. Either way, the induction sound makes a really nice noise, and gets plenty of air flow
Appreciate the honest review. Been looking at the 660 to replace my KLR
@@advryan1 yeah, that makes sense. Thanks!
@@stevesmith6821 anytime Steve! If you think of anything else or have anymore questions feel free to reach out. 😎
Here is the link below. Let me know if you anything else! www.nicecnc.com/products/ktm-beta-bud-footpegs-folding-brake-pedal-tip?currency=USD&variant=42337374732518&Google%20Shopping&stkn=366523f86076&.11&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5cOwBhCiARIsAJ5njuZHKz3_1Xsy8UfZ-C8C4X8fP_engvMv3Nh7MJpfCiZkHENNSF7N4Q8aAgEdEALw_wcB
Good review. Thanks. Interested in the lever bolts. What spec did you use?
Thank you for stopping by Dennis! So I bought both of these bolts from AF1. They have several good aftermarket parts available that beef up the bike. 👍
Nice to here Aprilia has an off road optional filter for 2024.
@@advryan1But if Aprilia has started selling an off road filter as an accessory, it wouldn't void warranty.

Hey Ryan, Thanks for the review! Who makes the tail rack you put on the bike? Thanks.
Hey MO, the tail rack is made by Hepco and Becker. Solid rack. It's the smaller rack they offer but I didn't want something massive on the back. Several ways to strap things to it as well if you don't run a rotopax. The plus is it looks good with nothing on it! Highly recommend it.
@@advryan1 Hey Ryan, I got my a Tuareg, based, in part on your rave reviews. Only have 300 miles on it, but it's a really special bike. Love it!
@@themosaito thanks for stopping back by and letting me know Mo! It's a special bike no doubt. Most definitely the best midsize bike on the market. It will serve you well my friend. If you ever have any other questions just let me know. I'm happy to help! 👊
I’m heading up to Alaska in June. I think this’ll be the perfect bike. I’ll let you know how I get on.
@@themosaito that sounds like an awesome adventure! Definitely interested to hear your feedback Mo! Ride safe out there.
Thanks for the quick reply. I've subscribed to the channel and look forward to future content!
@@riding4fun40 thank you so much for your support! If you ever have any questions at all just let me know. I'm happy to help. My next episode should be up soon from my Continental Divide trip so stay tuned!
Where did you buy your folding brake lever and the titanium bolts from?
Hey @ndcbene369, I got the titanium replacement bolts from AF1racing.com. And I believe the folding levers from Nicecnc.com. Nice CNC Aprilia Tuareg Folding brake pedal Google search should get you there. If you have trouble finding it let me know! And thanks for stopping by. 🤘
Did you get the foam air filter from Australia from AF1 racing? If not, where did you get it from?
Hey bikealways! I sourced my unifilter from unifilter Australia. I stepped up the shipping 1 notch from standard and it was on my doorstep in a weeks time. Very fast shipping!
Hello, how many liters does your tank fit? My Tuareg 660 model 2022 doesn't fit more than 15.6 liters. I ran the tank completely empty and then filled it up.
Hey there! I ran mine nearly dry. Pump read a little over 17.4 liters if I remember correctly. She was thirsty.
I thought those nostrils in the front are fake..a few other people on RUclips have made this claim. Thanks for the clarification.
You are really going to love this bike offroad!

nice review mate. what rear rack is that?
Hey Jarrod! Thank you for watching brother. The rear rack is a Hepco and Becker mini rack. I'm not sure why it's called a mini rack because it's plenty big enough compared to others, just not too big.
Ummm, just me or did you point at the 2 fake vents?
666 subs at the time of watching. sorry, but I had to change it to 667 :)

poor unreliable expensive bike
