I almost passed out toward the end with anxiety at the control panel in a tornado of chaos and confusion. Joy told her to let go but she couldn't. She was quiet and then a single tear shed from her eye. NGL that part was a real intense.
I genuinely scratched myself hard enough to make myself bleed in that moment because everything was too intense and I could feel a mental breakdown coming
When those particle bits stated coming off of Joy, just before Sadness says "Riley needs you," I thought that what was about to happen was Joy was going to disappear.
When asked the question “Was this sequel necessary?”, I don’t look to if it was way better than the original, but if it is at least a worthy successor that allows us to spend more time with the characters we love without butchering anything from the original. And this movie is very much a worthy sequel, even if the original already worked well on its own.
All of these comments prove why studios start phoning it in, beginning with part 2, because they know the audience will accept a subpar follow up. There’s no incentive to try to surpass the original. Mediocrity sells.
It didn’t hit the same emotional highs as the first one, didn’t burst into tears as with bing bong BUT it was an excellent movie. I enjoyed it and connected to it emotionally and more thst that it did a really did a great job almost like educating the audience on anxiety how it can be harmful and coping skills.
Aw man bing bong.. I remember crying so hard during that. This movie made me want to cry for sure, I think the anxiety representation and emotional de stress and desire to fit in in general really hit home.
i never fell for the first one either, it felt so predictable and bare bones....and i usually love animation, even those aimed at children. i knew the sequel was gonna be kind of mediocre if that was the starting point (plus pixar's current open statement on how they won't be doing movies like luca or turning red anymore, at all)
This movie felt like a callout to me between ages 14 and 17. I cried, I cringed and I truly felt with Riley. I'm 23 years old, Inside out just hurts so perfectly right, both the first and the second part, and it's a comfort movie to me to remind myself that it's okay to just... Not be okay, sometimes. To struggle.
Inside Out might not be Pixar's BEST film, but it's definitely their most IMPORTANT film. Never has a movie elevated children's emotional intelligence so much. Kids that watch it can talk about their emotions in ways way more advanced than if they hadn't.
@@bjcantrell1990 It happens all the time, nobody is immune to media influence. And if a book, show, movie or anything else has a good moral or challenges people to think about something from a new perspective I don’t see the problem with that.
@@bjcantrell1990 I feel sorry for people that don't know how to interact with media. I feel bad for people that are so serious and beaten down by life that they get nothing from media, that it makes them feel nothing and fails to make them think about anything to be unable to understand it's worth so much that they have to disparage others to feel like they're smarter just because they can still see something they cannot. It is completely fine for a movie to help shape someone's way of thinking if the message is good, what's bad is relying on media 100% and doing nothing as a parent to help guide them through it then blaming said media when your kids start acting up.
i feel like it’s because it didn’t get a theatrical release and just went on streaming. honestly i think soul is better in terms of storytelling and characters compared to inside out 2.
@@abigaillanderson Agreed! 😄 The panic attack scene in IO2 was pretty powerful, but rescuing 22 from becoming a horrible lost soul monster hit /so much harder/ for me, especially when depression runs in my family. I can cry just thinking about it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
literally one of my favorite movies of all time, like i think about it so often. that scene where he’s thinking back on all the moments in his life makes me SOB 😭
Anxiety was handled perfectly in this film. I had a big feeling she would be the main antagonist since the first teaser. The movie has her be like actual anxiety with taking over all the other emotions and causing Riley to have an intense panic attack and it only started to stop when she let go. Anxiety can get a massive hold on people and the feeling when it lets go is very calming. But the film also shows the good things of anxiety with preparing Riley for the future but not causing extreme panic for anything that could go wrong.
Ill get so much hate for this, but I prefered this one over the first. As someone who struggles with being social and had chronic anxiety, this one resonated with me so much more. I personally loved it. Best animated film since Spiderverse imo.
I quite enjoyed the movie, I have had multiple anxiety disorders since 13 so it definitely resonated with me. I don't like it more than the first film but I think they did a good job, I was worried it was going to turn out like the rest of the movies disney has been putting out lately.
I thought Inside out 2 was fantastic. Despite being an adult there was sm messaging I could get behind and relate to. But if this came out when I was 13 it honestly would’ve meant a lot. It’s charming, funny, emotional and beautifully animated. With a gorgeous score to bring it all together. Also this DEFINITELY BETTER THAN INCREDIBLES 2
Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but Incredibles 2 was not good. It was 1 of Pixar's worst sequels by far. The villain especially was horribly written
Pacing was definitely a bit off and I had to deal with crying babies. Joy’s outburst about being positive all the time was extremely random and very out of character
The thing the film was the most subtle about in my opinion is why the feeling of anxiety is important. By the end, it still feels like they just got Anxiety out of the way to make sure she doesn't mess with anything. Even at the start when Anxiety is doing a good job, there's no "This is the feeling of anxiety and why it's good" explanation, but rather it's left for you to interpret that the anxiety you see storming the movie and the subtle nervousness that leads to a good job at the start are the same emotion. I honestly wouldn't have minded if they gave the feeling of anxiety the same treatment they gave the feeling of sadness in the first movie.
Anxiety explained herself why she's important to Riley at the beginning. She "protects her from the things she can't see" and "plans for the future." The movie wasn't sublte in how Anxiety is helpful, but in how it's harmful. We don't get a whole explanation of why Anxiety is bad like we got when Anxiety was explaining why she was good, instead we got to see Riley slowly spiraling down and having an anxiety attack in the middle of her match. At the end of the movie, Anxiety wasn't just moved out of the way; Joy used therapy talk to help Anxiety ground herself. Things like "Are those scenarios happening right now?" and "we have to let go of things we can't control and focus on what we can control" are really good tools to give to anybody, children or adults, who want to cope with anxiety.
I think that would be tough because panic attacks aren’t all the same. So it might seem realistic to you, but doesn’t represent someone else’s experiences.
People don’t give Pixar enough credit for the last few years. They’ve made some shitty sequels, sure, but the plan was always to use the money from those sequels to make great original movies as well. Luca was great, Turning Red was great, Soul was incredible. I don’t understand why people say Pixar has “fallen off”. Now that they’re only doing sequels and training directors not to put their personal experiences into films, now they’re falling off.
Thank you. Turning Red, Soul, and Luca I love. I think they'd be recognized more if thay had played in theaters. Also I think too much is being read into those comments about the sequels and non-personal stories. I think the idea is not to make them painfully autobiographical, not not personal. The proof will be in the pudding--whether or not the films are good. Pixar is still going to make a lot of original films, probably more than most other studios TBH.
Yeah him saying Inside Out 2 is the best movie in a while is really undercutting to Luca and Turning Red, which are only 3 and 2 years old respectfully.
Yeah, it's unfortunate that all of their genuinely great films were just put on Disney+ and didn't get the theatrical releases they rightfully deserved...
@@MrMayfly101 same here. That’s why I commented this cause I know a lot of other people feel the same and hearing Karsten say inside out 2 is the best Pixar movie we’ve had in years is just something a lot of people disagree with. I know I do. I think Soul is one of the best things Pixar has ever made, and for me personally it might actually be the best thing theyve ever made.
honestly Idk what you're talking about, it actually feels like it belongs unlike every other pixar sequel and expands on itself and is very smart and I'm glad it exists
I totally agree. And could really resonate with it. Great movie in my opinion. Just as good as the first movie in my opinion, only more complex. I just loved it :)))
@@alexander1274 Haven't gotten to watch them tbh. I actually really like a lot of their sequels. Some of them hit, some of them don't. This one tho. REALLY GOOD :)
I thought this was just about as good of a sequel to Inside Out could be, definitely doesn't match up to the original but I think we all knew it wouldn't. Contrary to what people say I think Inside Out was one of the few Pixar IPs that left a lot of room open for a sequel so I'm glad this one came out as good as it did.
I think it matches up to the original. It was a very well thought out movie that worked well to complement the first move. Both movies filled their roles.
As a person who struggled with my mental health, Joy breaking down and when she said, “Maybe when you grow up, you feel less joy” hit me hard. I can relate to her as I’m the one trying to stay positive to everyone but when everything goes wrong like when she just sat there wondering why everything failed, she started blaming herself, just like I would. The movie does a good job on displaying the emotions during the teenage years
he’s scrutinizing this a bit too much imo. It’s the best Pixar movies in years just let yourself experience it without trying to pick it apart too much like karsten does. Realistically most people won’t notice the minimal flaws he’s point out.
@@doopyman its paced fine, he’s being dramatic. And it’s a film about sentient emotions, do you expect it to be more subtle about what’s going on in Riley’s head? They’re personifying emotions of course the story and message are blunt, it would be weird to expect otherwise
@user-xs6qv3jc1b how would it be weird to expect otherwise many other pixar movies have had similar ideas and had good subtlety but whatever it's a kids movie
@@doopyman the first inside out is NOT any less blunt than this. Yes I agree ratatouille for example as well as other Pixar movies are more subtle, but you cant have that issue here if you like the first one. That makes it a good sequel in my opinion. Plus, considering how complex the message is I think it gets a pass.
I loved how close all the emotions were this movie, felt more like they were a family who love and appreciate each other than colleagues - especially seeing Joy be so caring and supportive with Sadness was wholesome to see
Same here, I cried because when I was young, I was like Riley initially, thinking I should be kind and do all good things. I cried because I felt I was definitely not like that anymore. I couldn't act kind immediately without overthinking. That's why, in the end, when her belief is all messy, I cried again. She changed, I changed, and it's all true. It's part of my growth and myself despite everything is messy now.
Call me crazy but the pacing of this movie feels like a representation of the message they are trying to convey. Felt like an additional story telling piece
Exactly, the first film feels slower because the process of growing up is slow and melancholic, but this film was literally about puberty and anxiety, so the faster pacing only makes sense. Plus, I don't think it was THAT fast. I mean, technically, it's a minute longer than the first one. 🤣🤣🤣
The dialogue subtlety is a criticism that I definitely agree with, but I’d say that personally, this movie absolutely moved me-though it’s probably just because I’m in a rough time in my life. Spoilers below!! Specifically the scene where Joy tries to drag Anxiety out of the panic-attack tornado while all of the buttons are still spazzing out, and there’s like a hologram of Anxiety there because she’s moving so goddamn fast to try and fix the mess they had gotten themself into, and Joy tries to drag Anxiety away from the console and she just starts… silently crying. That got to me. It was like she was trying her hardest to put everything back in place but she really couldn’t do that through… Yknow. Unbridled fear. And she was getting overwhelmed. That definitely made me tear up. Also, I think Anxiety was a good villain in general-she was genuinely threatening and scary to me at moments (ie. When she catches Joy in the pillow fort), and that was nice. Last thing I’ll note is that the animation for the entirety of the ending sequence was really impressive and notable to me; they did a really good job of framing the hockey game Riley was in in different ways based on who was in control of the console that makes the scene feel so much more stressful and tense (when Anxiety is there you get fast cuts, close shots of the action that feel really claustrophobic, everything is a bit more dark and gloomy and intense, but when Joy takes over it’s a lot brighter and they take their time on showing different motions and such). The contrast is super noticeable because for Riley, it’s all one scene in the hockey game, so you can just Feel the difference in tone once she’s back in the game. It’s so good I’m really into this one. My one main complaint is that I was expecting the stakes to end up higher again in Inside Out 2, though-in Inside Out 1, Riley tries to run away, and that feels genuinely dire and upsetting to watch. But here she just wants to… get onto the hockey team? Make sure she still has friends when her other friends move? It’s still serious and worrisome for her, but I know she’ll be fine, because a lot of people don’t make the hockey team or have friends move away and they’re usually fine after a while. In the first movie it’s like… oh my god, she could actually be in serious danger, even though I know nothing will happen because it’s a kid’s movie (not that kid’s movies can’t be dark but I know she’s not going to successfully run away because that would mean Joy failed Yknow). I was just holding my breath the entire movie waiting for Riley to overwork herself and get hurt, or hurt someone while playing, or something (regardless I was seriously convinced that if they went as far as the first movie someone would end up in the hospital or in a cast). And then it never happened.
I honestly prefer the lower stakes cause it feels more grounded and relatable in that regard. Not to say kids haven't run away from home in real life but I don't think it's as universal as freaking out over something that is incredibly important to you, which is much more common
Yeah super fair!! I could definitely get not wanting things to be too “outlandish” I guess, and it’s definitely not too common for kids movies to go that far anyways, probably for the reasons you mentioned. I just definitely felt like something was missing, since they didn’t take this movie as far as they took the first one.
I agree with your point a lot but could you imagine the stakes being higher. it might have been too controversial of a movie. People wouldn't like it, being in high school sports made the stakes honestly sufficient for me, I know how it feels to be dropped off the team pretty crushing.
The problem with this movie was it had the same conflict the first movie had which is emotions got kicked out of Riley and now they are trying to get back to HQ. It would’ve been cool if they went with another plot that wasn’t so similar to the first one in a way
I LOVED this movie. It showed how a sense of self is formed through beliefs, and realistically depicted how anxiety can override who you are. As someone who grew up struggling with social anxiety, the panic attack was depicted in a way that hit sooo hard. I cried lol
"I wouldn't call it lazy, but i wouldn't call it perfect either." My brother, there's like a universe of gap between those adjectives. What is it really.
I like how they changed the animation style for gags. We have been seeing a lot of impressive animation style mashups lately but inside out 2 used it in a self aware ironic way. It knew the bar was high so they said lets make a joke and punch up.
@@SpecialofferFrombeyondtheveil Same, all I know of it was there was a bike race to get the Vaspa or something, and then Luca went with the girl to the school. I don't know the point of the film
I really like it when Pixar tries to appeal to things children often go through when growing up. For instance, Monsters Inc is meant to be a twist on the fear of monsters so many kids have. Inside Out 1 is about growing up, experiencing all these different kinds of changes in ur emotions & how one reacts to it. With Inside Out now being a movie franchise alongside Monsters Inc, I hope Pixar continues to make movies like this that appeal to kids on a more personal level
Does it? Appeal to kids on a more personal level? There's obviously a contemporary audience for Inside Out and Inside Out 2 but I feel unsettled by the notion effectively assuming these movies appeal to children generally. Monsters Inc and Inside Out share similarities but crucial contrasts with Inside Out. Subtractions I believe. Both may I add are Pete Doctor films. Beyond his style, I figured back in the days when I was a kid myself that Pixar Animation Studios strategy is or formally was making animated movies on subjects interesting for children and interesting for adults. Who remember what interested or still interests them. Until Inside Out released and I doubted the goal remained the same, at least from my point of view, in making stories appealing to what interests/appeals to children. Rather than making attractive, high quality educational programming packaging information around what appeals to children superficially. Inside Out is a modern day fairy tale and comparable by design to tasty medicine. I doubt this will become something which lasts decades if not centuries without ever intending to become classic. This formula serves a singular purpose and that purpose only appears timeless now. These PIXAR movies are not centered around the commonalities or convergence between children and adults but lessons deemed necessary to educate the masses of children drawn in by appealing artwork and music. I should mention what I mean is for the first era of PIXAR, adults were the main characters. That's a massive distinction between older and newer PIXAR movies. One which even with sort of adult characters in Inside Out 2 there's less similarities, I noticed, between the emotions and the monsters of Monsters Inc or even toys from Toy Story. Compared to how similar each are to a kid like Riley. Anthropomorphizing emotions seems relevant currently but I wonder how rewatchable Inside Out and Inside Out 2 will stay within this century. I worry continuing to make this kind of animated movie will uniform a particularly creative storytelling medium into a narrow purpose which may become dated sooner than expected.
What do you mean it wasn't necessary? The overall themes and message that it brings forth is TREMEMNDOUSLY and UNIVERSIALLY important in this day and age and more than justifies it existence
@@Rrrr101-x9l except it's not because why would it be different at first place? The message is different, there are more complex characters- emotions and that's enough
Inside out 2 is fine, didn't hit me as hard emotionally as the first movie but definitely was pretty good, it's fast paced like it felt lika it was 45 minutes to an hour when it was an hour and a half.
Inside Out 2 might not be as good as the first one, but if the first one was a 9 out of 10, the second one is an 8.8 out of 10, so still pretty great. It feels unique enough compared to the first film to warrant it existing, and it was pretty good anyhow. But this might be one of the last good Pixar films we'll see in a while, a Pixar executive literally said it himself that they'll be focusing less on movies with personal experience (like Soul and Inside Out) but instead sequels to pre-existing franchises that relate to a larger number of audiences.
As someone who's suffered with anxiety for pretty much their whole life, I thought it was a great visualization of how anxiety can override your emotions and distort your beliefs and sense of self. I also loved (SPOILERS) the end where Joy uses therapy talk to help calm Anxiety down.
Hi psychology student here🙋♀️ I think this movie was absolutely necessary. It explains many psychological theories about emotions, learning, memories and forming opinions etc. (basically general psychology concepts applicable to the large mass) in such a fun and simple way. I understand your frustration on it feeling “too much on the nose” sometimes, but you have to remember that the target audience also includes kids PLUS these are literal emotions, which function it is to communicate and interact to form the best possible reaction to the current environment/ situation at hand. It’s also obviously following the stages of development (it’s doing a great job in my humble opinion :) ) and isn’t just about being a teen but rather transforming your simple worldview from childhood to a more complex (therefore the more complex emotions and also the differing self perception) it’s not only about your emotions not dictating your identity but much rather about how every of our actions define us, whether we want it or not (I.e. we saw Riley’s self perception being “I am a good human”, only choosing to remember the good things she has done, while trying to ignore every bad and uncomfortable thing she has done, which later are being shown to also be important and also part of our identity). Maybe I was focusing too much on the way theories were implemented and the characters behaviour, but this movie for me didn’t feel rushed contrary to the other ones. It’s literally over a span of three days. All in all from a psychological standpoint I think it did a wonderful job explaining core concepts of the human experience and biology to a large audience, who maybe doesn’t have the access and the time to educate themselves in at times very complex and abstract theories. Therefore I think it’s a wonderful and necessary sequel. :)
I think it was a good sequel. Definitely not in the same level as Toy Story 2, but i think it was enjoyable. I liked the moments where Mr. Incredible tries his best to take of Jack-Jack, Dash and Violet and Elastigirl saving the day was cool to watch.
Two things I didn't like about this movie: It was very boring in the middle and the stakes felt quite low. The did a good job with the ending though. And second - there were no consequences for Rylie's actions. She behaved like an complete psycho but still got everything she wanted for some reason.
I enjoyed the 2nd film a lot more because how relatable she is in the movie with how strongly she is trying to fit in and some things she was doing I even found myself doing to at some points in my life like when she was getting overly conscious about the way she walked😂. So it was definitely a 10/10 for me just because of that and also because how accurate a anxiety attack is displayed in the movie is great
I liked the movie, although I wish we got at least like 5-10 extra minutes of seeing all the emotions working together harmoniously. We see all 9 of them working together well for like 1 minute and then the movie is pretty much over.
Many people are praising this movie... I feel like an outsider because I did not like the movie. I feel like it could have been so much better but instead they chose a simple plot and story lines. I cried once, when Rile's "inner self" was saying all sorts of lines and the emotions hugged it. That got me, but the rest... well... I felt like the story could have been so much more. It follow a similar plot like the first one, oh no, the emotion are out of the headquarters. Like, we saw this already and it never leads to anything good. Also, how tf did Riley never experience the new emotion for the first 13 years of her life? It felt so unnecessary to add the new emotions to the story... felt like oh no new emotions! Also I agree that I liked that Riley felt more of a real character, but closer to the end of the movie... I started to not like her anymore... let me explain. I understand, Riley had anxiety took over, but why is it that Riley did not receive any consequences for her actions? In the first one, the plot felt intense, Riley stole her mother's credit card and almost ran away to a whole other city. Riley was in a depressive state and denial the fact that she was in a whole new different place and that end scene with her parents was so impactful because they were more worried for her safety than anything else. (yes, I cry every time). Here...? Oh she wants to be in a high school hockey team so she is cold and betrays her friends, breaks into a school to look at the notebook to see if she got into the team or not, and in the end got everything she wanted. Um... sooo I understand the message is that don't let emotions define you... but I don't get how everyone suddenly forgave her and she got everything she wanted. She had only one consequence, and it was be embarrassed for having the team do extra training because she was being on her phone. That part isn't that plot relevant in my opinion. Also, another major point I want to touch upon. Since this movie is supposed to be related to puberty. I kind of wanted to see how Riley deals with it, not just having "new emotions". But like having her body change and feeling that body dysmorphia that most teens feel during that time (including myself). Getting into high school and seeing how different it is than middle school. Seeing that transition from being a girl to a woman and how Riley and the emotions deal with it. It would have been such an important movie for young girls to see. (I understand Turning Red did a similar thing, but I would disagree because the movie isn't really about puberty since there arent any scenes of her actually dealing with it.)
when they said that Riley “doesn’t need Anxiety” I don’t think that was literal, because the point is that all the emotions are there to serve a purpose, and it’s just important to know how to manage them or else you can lose who you are
Inside out and inside out 2 were both good. My only issue with the second movie is that it feels a little crammed..like they rushed the ending. It just feels very short. And its a family mostly kids movie..if u dont like it then a child will. It wont matter😭
I agree; all art is inherently unnecessary. Humanity would have kept going with or without Van Gogh or Mozart or Bergman. "Necessary" is always a bad argument for whether a movie should be made or not. It was no more necessary for [movie you like] to be created than it was for [movie you dislike]. Is a good movie more valuable than a bad one? Sure, but at the time of their conception, they were both unnecessary. Shift the focus from "should this movie have been made?" to "this movie exists; does it provide social/emotional value?"
I love Amy Poehler but her character (Joy) annoys me to no end. She did not get any less annoying, obnoxious, or controlling than she was in the first movie.
@@onesweetangel1017She does though. Her whole character arc was her fear about Riley not needing her anymore but realizing she still does. She’s the leader but learns to let others take the reins sometimes.
I thought the portrayal of Anxiety was so real, and you can see from the comments how many people were moved by the panic attack scene. As someone who also suffers from anxiety, it felt cathartic to see my suffering represented so genuinely. Yet it was such a kind way to show Anxiety in all her unbridled fear, just wanting to fix the thing she had broken in her attempts to protect it. And the resolution of embracing your emotions while not letting them define you - you can say it’s on the nose, but I think some obvious metaphor is sometimes required to touch people. I didn’t mind it at all.
@@DarthScott tough to put into words. it's nothing on the technical side, it does everything it wants to do competently. it's just really not my vibe. it felt to me like it was made explicitly and exclusively for suburban white-collar people in their mid-30s with young kids. even down to the casting, it's mostly people known for playing characters on "quirky" sitcoms that Millennials re-watch on a loop.
@@LonkinPorkWell it DID come out in 2015 and humor was different back then + inside out is a kids’ movie and it’s a drama, it has some jokes here and there but overall i’d say it’s a drama. i think it’s just wrong to say it’s directed towards millennial moms because it’s not. it’s made for kids, it’s made for riley’s
If I could improve Inside Out 2 I would have made the deep dark secret about Riley being gay as a joke about Disney having so many false starts with gay characters and added depth to Riley wanting to impress the Firehawks captain.
So what? I don’t like Incredibles 2 either. It’s bottom 5 Pixar for me, but someone else liking it doesn’t “invalidate” their opinion on something else. Get a grip
ANIMATION IS NOT EVERYTHING EVERYTIME... This movie teaches children sooo much that no other pixar movie has ever talked about. Movies are supposed to entertain u agreed, but for children they need a good education n this movie does it the best!
I found it really funny and annoyingly relatable as someone with an anxiety disorder. Like it didn’t have a ‘and now you cry’ moment but I don’t think it was going for that really. I felt the chaos of the anxiety storm and how it entirely gripped her. That sort of thing doesn’t make me cry but it’s something so validating to see play out. I similarly contended with a move away from friends that caused me to preemptively alienate myself to find new ones. It fucking sucked. Maybe if film wasn’t so breakneck all the time I feel it could have sat with me better, idk. I think because of the nature of the emotions, I’m not emotionally connect to them as people. They are talking metaphors. So joy comforting anxiety wasn’t the same thing as Riley’s parents talking to her. I agree with this review. It had a good story to communicate the ideas, I just think if it had slowed down on some character bits and trusted its audience a little more it would be another pixar home run. But I get that pixar is freaked at the moment due to everything, they were trying to keep people watching. That said Soul, Turning Red and Luca are still stand out Pixar films for me, each brought on the classic pixar misty eye and I find it strange people think it’s in a slump. Its in a financial slump because these great personal films got buried on streaming and their theatrical releases were… Buzz. And Elementals which did pick up hype, as a different type of pixar film.
ever since i saw Wish, i had to think to myself "maybe i'm just not the audience." (i'm 22) I felt the same way too about Inside Out 2, but I think it was more of me being like uuuuuughhh this is kinda the same movie, uuuughhh i have to sit through this scene. but watching the movie didn't feel like an entire chore. when it's cute, it's cute! i did like that they showed more of riley and how she was interacts with people. this didn't make me insolubly cry like the first movie as a 14 year old who had a hard time being open about my feelings in front of other. but just sadness telling joy that riley wants her made me oh AHHDHHhhahahH.😭 I FEEL like the movie was wrapped up well and okay. def don't hate it but im thinking omg this company is gonna be producing sequels nonstop.
The entire movie was more about letting go of fun things. And sacrificing it for personal growth. And think about Riley's future. And having to make sacrifices. Like you can let Joy take over and play video games. But your inner anxiety will remind you that you have to do your homework. Joy only made her seem like an irresponsible immature child. And then anxiety becomes dominant, and will always calculate what is the best for us. To try keep things in balance.
I always thought that the setup of the emotions didn't necessarily work in the movie's favor and was out of balance. In the first movie, we have Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust, which means 1 "positive" vs. 4 "negative" emotions. And now we have Envy, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Anxiety, so the ratio is now 1:8. And while these emotions are certainly all true to the teenage experience, I can't help but think that an emotion like Excitement, Curiosity, Love, Pride, Hope, or Trust etc. arguably would have been a good addition to the cast as well. But I haven't seen the second movie yet, so I'm curious to see how it goes :)

As long as the sequel is good, it doesn't matter if it's necessary or not.
As long as the previous stuff isn't tossed to the side as if it never happened

All of these comments prove why studios start phoning it in, beginning with part 2, because they know the audience will accept a subpar follow up. There’s no incentive to try to surpass the original. Mediocrity sells.

This movie felt like a callout to me between ages 14 and 17. I cried, I cringed and I truly felt with Riley. Inside Out might not be Pixar's BEST film, but it's definitely their most IMPORTANT film. Never has a movie elevated children's emotional intelligence so much. Kids that watch it can talk about their emotions in ways way more advanced than if they hadn't.

When Karsten said they hit it out of the park with incredibles 2 I thought it was a bit
Because anxiety literally is not a good emotion and is a very bad one to have.
@@Pluto5323 Based on the movie, anxiety makes us think, which can be used to make good decisions. They just didn't explain it explicitly.

I disagree, this sequel IS better than the first. The maturity and relatability of it is what stood out to me. The humour was better too.
I watch inside Out 2 and…. Why did I almost cry in the opening?!!
It's part of my growth and myself despite everything is messy now.
glad to know i wasn't the only one holding back tears within the first 15 minutes
TLDR;
Yes it was necessary
Call me crazy but the pacing of this movie feels like a representation of the message they are trying to convey. Felt like an additional story telling piece
Exactly, the first film feels slower because the process of growing up is slow and melancholic, but this film was literally about puberty and anxiety, so the faster pacing only makes sense. Plus, I don't think it was THAT fast. I mean, technically, it's a minute longer than the first one. 🤣🤣🤣
I love inside out 2 I love the scene where Joy said it's inside out time and starts to inside out everywhere to defeat anxiety
It would’ve been cool if they went with another plot that wasn’t so similar to the first one in a way
It's a "sequel pattern" tho, many cartoon sequels follow similar plots just to not differate much
Ikr

Uh, this was A LOT better than the first movie. This actually hit hard and it hit deep.

INSIDE OUT 2 is better than the first.
I agree!
No
Many people are praising this movie...
How did you talk about the lack of subtlety and not mention “We are suppressed emotions!!!”
It looks like a dvd sequel
"I just think characters need to slow down a bit"
I got this feeling with kungfu panda too. are all new kids movies made with tiktok brain in mind?
Fun fact Inside Out was the last Pixar movie with Steve Jobs involved
No, it wasn’t? 💀
💀How?
Do you mean the first one is the last one Steve Jobs was involved with?
I think it was the first Inside Out. Jobs died in 2011 and the movie came out in 2012.
@@themoocow7718inside out came out in 2015
when they said that Riley “doesn’t need Anxiety” I don’t think that was literal, because the point is that all the emotions are there to serve a purpose, and it’s just important to know how to manage them or else you can lose who you are
It was pretty good sequel in my opinion
I think your in the minority on this one, a lot of people a r saying this is a return to form
Inside out and inside out 2 were both good. My only issue with the second movie is that it feels a little crammed..like they rushed the ending. It just feels very short. And its a family mostly kids movie..if u dont like it then a child will. It wont matter😭
NO FILM IS OR HAS EVER BEEN NECESSARY!!
slow down there buddy
i’m gonna hold your hand when i say this..
what
Youre trippin
I agree; all art is inherently unnecessary. Humanity would have kept going with or without Van Gogh or Mozart or Bergman. "Necessary" is always a bad argument for whether a movie should be made or not. It was no more necessary for [movie you like] to be created than it was for [movie you dislike]. Is a good movie more valuable than a bad one? Sure, but at the time of their conception, they were both unnecessary. Shift the focus from "should this movie have been made?" to "this movie exists; does it provide social/emotional value?"
I thought Elemental was much better than Soul.
karsten looking like henry from eraserhead 😭😭
Pixar hit it out of the park with Cars 2, that movie slapped
Okay but that ending almost got me bawling in the theatre 😭
What was the ending?
Me too but just tears lol
It got me to shed a tear, and it takes a lot for piece of film to do to me.
Anything with Amy Poehler is necessary
I love Amy Poehler but her character (Joy) annoys me to no end. She did not get any less annoying, obnoxious, or controlling than she was in the first movie.
if Pixar messes up Amy Poehler I'm getting my pitchfork. Amy Poehler is too good for this world.
Leslie Knope for 2024 presidency
@@onesweetangel1017She does though.
Her whole character arc was her fear about Riley not needing her anymore but realizing she still does.
She’s the leader but learns to let others take the reins sometimes.
@@KirbyStarAnimation right? Like they literally all look at her for guidance.
Did you imply Incredbles 2 is good 😅
I thought the portrayal of Anxiety was so real, and you can see from the comments how many people were moved by the panic attack scene.
I don't know how I'm somehow the only person that thought Inside Out was mid, but I'm definitely not bothering with the sequel
Explain how it is “mid”?
finally someone else who doesn't like the first inside out
@@DarthScott tough to put into words. it's nothing on the technical side, it does everything it wants to do competently. it's just really not my vibe. it felt to me like it was made explicitly and exclusively for suburban white-collar people in their mid-30s with young kids. even down to the casting, it's mostly people known for playing characters on "quirky" sitcoms that Millennials re-watch on a loop.
@@LonkinPork I dunno about this, me and all my friends watched it when it came out and we were in our early 20s and we all liked it
@@LonkinPorkWell it DID come out in 2015 and humor was different back then + inside out is a kids’ movie and it’s a drama, it has some jokes here and there but overall i’d say it’s a drama. i think it’s just wrong to say it’s directed towards millennial moms because it’s not. it’s made for kids, it’s made for riley’s
If I could improve Inside Out 2 I would have made the deep dark secret about Riley being gay as a joke about Disney having so many false starts with gay characters and added depth to Riley wanting to impress the Firehawks captain.
Just got back from the theater, and I don't care what anyone says, this was a terrific film!
that "we are the inside out, too" line hit so hard
He thinks Incredibles 2 was good yall... That says everything about this opinion
Wahhh i don't like people's opinions wahhh that hurts my feelings
@@art23428 I didn’t even watch I just listened up to the part he said it was good and stopped so I’m chillin.. you seem pretty upset tho😹
oh no. how dare somebody like a movie you dislike
So what? I don’t like Incredibles 2 either. It’s bottom 5 Pixar for me, but someone else liking it doesn’t “invalidate” their opinion on something else. Get a grip
so what? Everybody has movies they like that others dont. You want to live in a world where everyone has the same opinion as you?
ANIMATION IS NOT EVERYTHING EVERYTIME... This movie teaches children sooo much that no other pixar movie has ever talked about. Movies are supposed to entertain u agreed, but for children they need a good education n this movie does it the best!
There is only one incredibles movie
Nice Ralphthemoviemaker cosplay!
Yes, and its a great sequel
ever since i saw Wish, i had to think to myself "maybe i'm just not the audience." (i'm 22) I felt the same way too about Inside Out 2, but I think it was more of me being like uuuuuughhh this is kinda the same movie, uuuughhh i have to sit through this scene. but watching the movie didn't feel like an entire chore. when it's cute, it's cute! i did like that they showed more of riley and how she was interacts with people. this didn't make me insolubly cry like the first movie as a 14 year old who had a hard time being open about my feelings in front of other. but just sadness telling joy that riley wants her made me oh AHHDHHhhahahH.😭 I FEEL like the movie was wrapped up well and okay. def don't hate it but im thinking omg this company is gonna be producing sequels nonstop.
Cinema Theory is gonna have a field day with this movie that i know
The entire movie was more about letting go of fun things.
Saw this in a packed theater. There were NO kids
I’m excited!
EDIT 6/17/2024: Saw the movie today. In my opinion, it earns the title of a rare sequel that lives up to its predecessor.
The panic attack seen really sold it. I’m really glad this movie was made
Inside Out was not the beginning of the downslide. It was Onward.
I love the Eraserhead-Lynch-ification of Karsten's hair journey
Incredibles 2 was a huge disappointment. Inside Out 2 was the first great Pixar sequel outside of the Toy Story franchise imo.
I believe both Inside Out films had a purpose
I love Elemental
It's not perfect but is super underrated!
I really liked it. It became one of my newest comfort movies :)
