    Jake, I admire your attitude and calm approach with dealing with aiptasia. I freak out when I see even a tiny one in my display. Love the guidance in this video. Everyone needs to have a plan for an emergency tank.

    That tang is stunning! Hopefully he does stay that color, or lack of color. I would have bought the whole tank for that tang as well

    should have left the stand in the truck until you were ready for it, putting it on the ground in the snow in the middle of winter made the acrylic brittle, keeping it warm would have avoided this

      I did something similar with the 300 gallon version of that Rubbermaid holding tank. And initially it was absolutely fantastic, looked great, massive area for fish to swim and to spread out an aquascape, corals grew great, even slapped an overflow weir on it that drained to a sump so the only thing in the tank was fish, rocks, corals and pumps. But one thing that was a bit of a downer was surface agitation, it looks fantastically cool when all the pumps are off and the top of the water is super still, although you still have to worry about reflection of lights but that's minor except when taking pictures, but yeah it became a tank that I really didn't enjoy much because I didn't want to turn off all the pumps just to watch fish swim around.

  • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B 2 года назад +1

    So how common were acrylic stands? I've been in the hobby 25 years and that last video was literally the first time I saw an acrylic stand except for something like raising a skimmer out of the sump a bit, but never something that held the weight of a full tank.

    I’m planning a tank upgrade and I want to make a holding pond while I set up the new tank in the old tanks place. Do you think a pump with a hose to filter sock holder will be okay instead of a canister filter? Will still do a mp40, and air stones with a heater. Might be in there for a day while I plumb the new tank

  • @JA-br5iu
    @JA-br5iu 2 года назад

    Interesting. Can you explain why the air stone and how that helps. Why the extra air stone? I want to learn best as I can. Thank you for a great channel.

    "Not going to feed these fish" in the temp tank. To keep nutrients down?

      just to mitigate the disruption to the biology and reduce nutrient input until everything is afforded more substantial filtration

    hey jake would love your opinion on this new talk about kalk slurry concentrate dosing i've been hearing about.
    i have been a kalk user for many years and love the stuff. i got into the hobby about 25 years ago and all there was was kalk.i was successful at first but then i was buying beautiful corals just to watch them die so i dropped out maybe 8-9 years in. if only youtube was around back then most of the corals would have still been alive. i set up a tank about 3 years ago and started with kalk and switched over to red sea foundation program. i recently went to the zeovit system and added a kalk stirrer and still supplementing with red sea foundation,i also run a fleece roller a skimmer with co2 scrubber and added a cheat reactor the other night. 75g sps dom./ 30g sump/10g frag all plumbed together. i guess what i'm get to is my tank is really starting to take off and i was debating on a calcium reactor, but now with this new talk about kalk slurry dosing I'm starting to double think my ideas.HELP!!!! me Jake its getting out of control!!!!!!!!! maybe you can do a video about this talk about kalk slurry dosing when you explain it i kind of understand it so try to keep it simple please. and please if you have any suggestions about my equipment this hobby is like drugs you keep going back for more lol.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  2 года назад

      my tanks mostly run on kalk first, then I'll add dosing, and for the most demanding tanks I'll add a calcium reactor as well. Kalk slurry has been around for a while but I never felt the need to go that route since I've been a traditional kalk user for decades. A calcium reactor can definitely help put your mineral balance on cruise control but I still like to have dosing as the 'fine adjustment' so I'm not always tweaking the CaRx up and down all the time. hope this helps

      @@ReefBuildersVideo thanks jake, i really value your opinions watch your chanel all the time even go back to old videos for help and info.what you said makes a lot of sense, my peramators are on why change i'll add to adjust when needed.And thats why i reached out to you cause i can tell you love the stuff as well.(kalk)lol one last question while i have you,,zeovit system,kalk stirrer ,skimmer with co2 scrubber ,cheato reactor and dosing rea sea foundation but not the nopox do you think this is over kill? P.S. I hope the kalk slurry dosing has tickled your brain a little but enough for you to look into this topic and encourage you or force you to make a video because they are saying this may replace the calcium reactor, if i understood correctly... Btw my name is mario i'm using my wife's PC THANKS AGAIN Jake

    This is why custom jobs are a no go. You can get really good designs but when you hit a pinch emergency 🚨 you can literally be f’d

    • @johnyschissler752
      @johnyschissler752 2 года назад

      Always go basic dimensions and water volume. Everyone wants to stand out with a unique tank but for me it seems smarter to just go unique in your aqua scape design than to pick a unique tank. Too much focus on less is better but I find it better to go all hearty fish and corals with 1 or 2 unique corals per standard dimension aquarium.
