    This is an update on my DIY 300 gallon saltwater lagoon (pond). It's been running for about four months. Everything is doing perfect. I have added 100+ lbs of live rock which is a total of around 300 lbs. I plan on adding 100 lbs more in the near future. This is by far the easiest setup I have EVER had. I do a 90 gallon water change once a month and that is it.
    If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

    Damn man, we need some narration, or at least some text.
    Build concept and details: tubs and 2000 gal.
    Filtration choices and details.
    Livestock selection.
    Your background and fish room concept.
    Keep going, but clue us in.

      Thanks. I can give you details if you like. Just give me your email address. Filtration is very simple by the way. I am actually doing some modifications to this particular tank. I will upload a video when it's complete. The main components to the filtration is a LARGE skimmer, water volume and LOTS of live rock. I use rox carbon occasionally.

    Hi Tanner!
    Looks awesome! I am going to replicate this exact thing. I found you on reefcentral.com but have a couple of questions.
    1. How many gallons is your skimmer rated for?
    2. How big is the stock tank that has the skimmer?
    3. Do you have any safeguards to keep the skimmer tank from leaking into the main display tank? Or do you just have the bulk head super high up?
    I hope we see a new video soon! I love the look of this and its super economical compared to other tanks.

    Did you dump all those fish at once? How you keep them from fighting each other?

    • @tannersmith2000
      @tannersmith2000  10 лет назад

      No, they have coexisted together for about 3 years. Some of the fish are 6 years old. They have a pecking order starting with the emperor angel but they do great together. They are rewarding to keep.

    • @Dragon3435
      @Dragon3435 10 лет назад

      Tanner Smith What I meant is the initial time of putting those fish in were one at time or 6 at a time. Because I use to have a 150 gallon where I bought 6 baby angel and drop them in all at once to keep them from fighting each other.

    • @tannersmith2000
      @tannersmith2000  10 лет назад

      Vinnie Wong Good question. The angels were put in at different times. You see, I buy all my fish at an early juvenile stage. I like to watch them grow up. Large angels typically don't harass juveniles too bad. As the juveniles grow, a pecking order is established and I never see my fish fighting. They all coexist well together. It's the best way to introduce new fish is to introduce them at a juvenile stage.

    Hey Tanner what did you do for the bulkhead that comes in those rubbermaid tubs? Did you replace it with a better one? My two new ones are leaking no matter what I do. Did you have this issue? I want to do a lagoon just like this!

    • @tannersmith2000
      @tannersmith2000  9 лет назад

      Great question. Yes, my bulkhead leaked as well.
      What I did... I used Teflon tape on the bulkhead and I used silicone to seal both the inside and outside parts of the bulkhead using aquarium silicone.
      It did the trick and I have not had a leak yet in over two years of use.

  • @newreefer92

    I love the thought and design so I am going to do the exact same thing!! I was wondering if you could elborate on the plumbing? Do you just have a return pump on the 300 gal and then a hole in the sump to return the water?

    • @tannersmith2000
      @tannersmith2000  10 лет назад

      Yep. I just use a 1200gph circulating pump to pump water to the 55 gallon tub and it just falls right back into the 300 gallon.

    • @newreefer92
      @newreefer92 10 лет назад

      Is that how you maintain the water level in the 300 gallon as well? In other words since the display doesn't have a drain, how do you maintain the water level?

    • @tannersmith2000
      @tannersmith2000  10 лет назад +1

      newreefer92 I maintain the water level simply by eyeing it. I also check with my refractometer. I have a level mark on the tank itself which tells me where I need it filled in order to maintain a SG of 1.025

    • @newreefer92
