thank you for these videos. very helpful.
You're very welcome!
Generally I like TTartisans lenses, having several. I really like the 27 and 25mm offerings, but this one seems like a misstep for Fuji users. Just buy an XC new , or XF used 35mm f2 instead.
That hood is nice though.
Agreed
Great video as always :) I'm still hoping to get the Samyang 35 f1.2 manual focus one of these days, I already have the 21mm 1.4 and love it.
You know how hard it is here lately to get a decent weather day for testing gear. Why did I come home???
I also use this lens paired with X-S20. I don't have a problem with the AF, specially now that S20 has a new update.
Great to hear! Thanks
Bravo, friend!
Thanks Lara!!
Hi! Thank you for the review! May I ask how the chromatic aberration compares to the viltrox 35 1.4 lens? Thank you 🙏 😊
33? This is a bit better
Great video, thanks. I just picked up the 7Artisans f0.95 with discount off Amazon. You seem to have used more Chinese lenes than most. £4£ auto focus or manual, quality of image, what would you say is the one that stood out the most. Large aperture !! Thanks.
Very good question... I'm going to have to think about it, though it would be fair to say I still own more Viltrox lenses than any other third party Chinese manfacturer that I've featured.
don't know about the lens, but the X-S20 surely hs to be the best bang for your buck camera available. I bought one for my daughter and she loves it with the 70-300 for birding. It's a fantastic camera 🙂
I'm not looking forward to sending it back tomorrow! Think I've had this one for about 3 months at least.
I feel like the TTArtisan 27mm has a magic, a modern-vintage alchemical mixture rare in an autofocus lens. Flaws that make it something more than its price. Here... looks like the 35/1.8 is kinda exactly its price. Does OK, not great, might be slightly cheaper than the XC 35 (or might not).
My ideal next lens: a 40mm or so that'd use an old swirly biotar design. Old-school optics and rendering with modern AF and convenience seems like it could be a winner. Making a cheaper version of the same lens everyone else makes doesn't excite me as much.
I think I will have to agree with you :)
If you came to Fuji for fuji color and fuji optics, get a fuji lens. As noted, the XC 35 f2 or a used XF version is the way to go, if not one of the 1.4 options.
This is true... but everybody is on a different budget, has different tastes and even needs so I can't knock a company for bringing out their own take on a standard
Can you turn off the autofocus??
Not via the lens no
I want to see a Viltrox make a 35mm f1.2!
Very interesting!
I kinda hope it’s a 40mm. Their previous two pro lenses were a 75 (about halfway between an 85 equivalent and a 135) and a 27 (about halfway between a 35 and a 50 equivalent). Having a standard lens which is a tad tight seems like a nicer in between. Plus, there’s a great tradition of fast “tight” 50s, like the various 58mm lenses out there. Those run the gamut from well-corrected to character. Stuff like the famous Nikon and Minolta 58/1.2s from the film days, or the quirky 58mm biotars. Or Nikon’s newer 58/0.95. I’d expect Viltrox to go for modern perfection, and that’d be great.
Viltrox making their own Noct seems more exciting to me than just another 50mm equivalent.
Plus, particularly with crop-sensor lenses, a slightly longer focal length than average helps with shallow depth of field, both in terms of rendering, but also lens design. It’s typically easier to construct sharp and long (the same design made bigger typically increases image circle, which helps the corners), fast wide lenses are trickier.
