  • Life is bumpy, this is what I do... After some very unwelcome, troubling news which I will share with you here, I am back from our van trip. Hearing this news, completely out of the blue, has wobbled my foundations, big time. I have to admit, I am a little worried. But, onwards! Healing my soul in my usual ways with creativity, art, painting, writing and art journaling. This is my soothing, creative process and I am unlocking some major keys to transforming everything and transitioning my way through. Thank you so much for keeping me company on this wild ride called life! Try to keep your lights shining bright out there! Love you all to bits, Wendy. Xx

When lock down happened here I just remember feeling extremely grateful with the timing. It happened just a few months before I had planned to retire. So, as soon as it happened I gave my boss notice I wouldn’t be back. Daughter was in nursing school and granddaughter was in TK age four program. Which was shut down of course. I was able to take care of my granddaughter while my daughter continued with nursing school. Was extremely grateful for my garden. And that I had made my final payment on my little house. It is infuriating while most of us are paying higher prices for everything while the big companies are having record making profits exploiting the situation. Especially the oil companies. Had friends in hospitality that lost their incomes.

Talking about housing issues is very triggering for me. Here in Australia, we have a housing crisis that's been put in the too hard basket for decades, resulting in a growing invisible pandemic of homelessness.3 of my family are homeless, all very ill after years of living in a mouldy rental. It's hard not to feel completely despairing about it,but each night I tell myself at least they have a roof over their heads,(a decommissioned motel), they have their therapy cat and it could be a lot worse. We all practice gratitude, but trying to be creative in a single motel room is tricky...yet you are inspirational, Wendy. You did it in a van. Thanks for being real, and caring, from Kaye.🐱

Oh, it's a game, the housing crisis. I do wish you well. I'm making pottery now but whew, its very tough times. 🌱

Dear Wendy & James, I can totally empathize with you on your situation. Our building has been recently purchased from a private ownership to a corporate real estate company. The very first thing they have done is raise our rent a total of 20%, while the amenities have significantly been cut back. There is no solution unless you want to move house, and the housing market here is pretty much non existent. Prices on everything are much higher than a few months ago, the only thing that has not increased is our income. We are very much losing any middle class we had. Time to hunker down and bite the bullet. Hopefully something will change for the better. Just keep smiling, make the best of each situation, and enjoy what you can of life.

a lot of landlords are being ridiculous but it will back fire on them when they don't get any renters or present ones move out so l have a feeling it will change again at some point with resonable rent, and yes it is not nice to be forced into taking action but sometimes fate does this to make us take action and make the change we were dreading or fearing...go for it wendy and find your dream home, hugs

I can relate to some of your feelings and experiences, here in Canada. I have found that “Benevolent Prayers” have a unique magic about them. I can recommend the website of Tom T. Moore for guidance on this. Many people dismiss this simple type of prayer, but as someone who has been committed to my own path of greater wisdom I can and do attest to their power to assist us greatly. So much good magic has come into my life, and I feel so much more peaceful. And as someone who has broken her neck and lived through the horror of that I feel that I can indeed comment on this. Many blessings.

So sorry to hear of your financial woes. ☹ The rent fiasco seems to be the greed disease that has spread around the world. During the pandemic the super rich got richer and the poor got poorer , and the middle class income folks are now slipping closer to the poverty line. Here on the tiny Island I live on people that are second and third and even fourth generations are having to leave because of this very same issue. It's either that or go live with grandma, auntie or mom and dad again! So many people here are living in their cars or pitching tents on the beaches where they can...it's a mess!😳 People with extreme wealth have found our beautiful island and pushed out the common person. Those that choose to stay struggle with living in very small spaces and working most of their waking hours. It's not good and I don't know what the solution is.😕 My heart goes out to you Wendy and James. Take care and trust that your needs will be met. Keep envisioning what you need and believe that it's yours.🙏💖🌴🌺💫🌈🙋‍♀️

Last year we were evicted from our rental home of more than 5 years in order for it to be sold. It sold within two weeks. There were virtually no rentals available but by some miracle we got one, but all of the rents had gone up. We had to pay $150 a week more for the same size house 2 minutes drive away, and we couldn’t afford it. As soon as our 12 month lease expired our landlord has now put the rent up again! So much greed….and so many stressed people struggling to get by.

My landlord put the rent up for first time last autumn. The garden needed a lot doing to it, which I sorted out. And there was lots of issues after moving in, which did get sorted, but annoying, as all the jobs should of been done before I moved on. From the letter it is clear will be going up each year. Every now and again I dread how much it will go up this autumn. Like you I am thinking it is time to move.

I read today in the Sunday paper two very different articles: "70 per cent of renters are
reporting significant rent increases since the pandemic!' and also:
"Homelessness worsening throughout the state" (in the Southwest U.S.A.) !
VERY frustrating to hear that when people in general are the most down, the greedy take that opportunity to make more money - it's very fugly. Thank you so much for your honest sharing. It has been hugely comforting to me today. Surrender is a difficult thing sometimes, but I agree with you about allowing what is and waiting for the next. This is a truth frequently disregarded in our busy lives and struggle to survive in these challenging times. I am currently struggling with the experiences of fibromyalgia and it’s restrictions, but I am always more at peace when I allow my body and soul to be where it is each day; despite the 21st century view of productivity is the only currency of value.

Loved the road trip. I wish we had more country roads where we live in Indiana (there are still some but not close by). We own our home but the taxes and insurance have skyrocketed. I hate to see what gas and electricity are going to be this winter. What we have here is big companies buying up houses everywhere in bad and good areas and renting them out at high prices (some of these areas I would be afraid to live in). Also, rents are going up in apartments and the owners aren't even taking care of the maintenance or paying the utility bills they are required to pay. House prices are also skyrocketing so people can't even buy a house. I'm sure it's crazy everywhere but it's frustrating.

Wendy I so enjoy you. Letting go is hard. We see the same thing here in the USA. My husband & I had rented for years & I mean years. I finally said in 2020 we have to be ready to find a home in 2021 if at all possible. Yes we were in the year where it all went crazy but I had done the homework & based our search for a home we could afford on retirement in 5 years. We DidI It!!!! We hung in there & stuck to our limit & found a small home we love. Here in the USA the media kept telling us that the inflation was high because of too much spending. I did not buy that because it is the middle class that supports the wealthy & everyone we know is struggling for just the basics. Our interest rates have risen about 3 times so far this year. That helps if you have $$$$ in savings or investments but not if you have any debt. Now the economists are calling for a recession in about 6 months. I think you have to trust your own instincts. Sending us all out there good thoughts.

I don't know about housing (purchasing) or renting where you live , but where I live buying a home is the answer for us. The money spent on a mortgage is money benifiting us instead of rent money benifiting someone else. I can garden even in a very small postage stamp front or back yard to suplement us (saved money) and I have no one hiking up rent when ever they want. The whole owning a home is so worth it, strawberries, gooseberry bush, raspberries take not much room to grow and a couple 4x6 raised beds provide plenty of fresh produce for us and last but not least a small Woodstove helps with the heating bill. We are so lucky, I love my home and yard and rarely want to stray from the oasis we have made here. Wish you well which ever your decision is on what you do in the future.

Always glad to see your videos.
Sorry you both have a greedy landlord.

Kia ora from New Zealand. I was watching a van lifer video and your video of you and James came up. I love both this video and the first watch. We are soon to be moving into a discombobulated spring. Our weather has never been the same since I was young. Weather manipulation is all I can say. Anyhooo, spring is coming and im planning to venture in my van starting with one night stays. I have had a calling to begin venturing in nature and so be it 😍. I love your art journaling and will do a marathon viewing over the weekend. It is Thursday here 5.12pm. I am an artist too and i need to get back into creating. Your videos will inspire me. Thank you arohanui 💖😍✨😍💖

Post office has gone way over the top here in Greece too. So much more expensive that I was forced to close my etsy shop and now I have no idea what to do because no one is hiring. Hope things will work better and more freely for everyone. Much love from Greece

You could not be more correct about the greed. Things are the same here in the U.S. It is especially difficult for women of a certain age. Women in their 60's, 70's and even 80's are out there working or homeless. A sad state of affairs.

Hi, I am new to your channel. Been going through a similar housing situation here myself. Despite inflation going on, the landlord is being greedy. Now wants the house to be sold. So going through a bit of anxiety, stress and trying to process this all. Watching what you do and how to de-stress in your artwork and journaling to relax. I'm thinking of giving the journaling a try. Never done it and I would imagine a good way to let the thoughts out. Thank you for sharing this.

Wholeheartedly empathise - landlord didn't pay his mortgage, tho I was paying rent promptly and in full, I was evicted and couldn't find anywhere to live with 2 elderly poodles so I (fortunately) had to move back in with my mom (having lived independantly for 40 years!) Am still having trouble finding somewhere affordable that is ok with dogs and my disability. My Mom shouldn't be having to deal with this, but neither should I. Worse news was the landlord made a deal with the bank and got the property back. Sad, angry, bitter and desperate. Hospitalised just after eviction (due to stress and heavy lifting that I Shouldn't have done - nor had to do!) Am now even more debilitated than I was! Still home hunting, Trying to be positive but am actually burying my head in the sand a little. Prefer not to think about it than deal with the stress currently. Rented forever homes feel like a thing of the past. I hope you're both luckier than I 💕💜

Have a look at your contract, they are usually contractually entitled to increase it in line with the retail price index which is 12.34% this year so it shouldn’t be more than that. If you are out of contract you are entitled to a rolling contract. Citizens advice is helpful for more info in you need it. I’ve just moved myself so I sympathise 💜😊✌️ sending you peaceful house hunting prayers

The rent here is not good, though I keep hearing my city is cheapest in my country. Houses I'm used to seeing for $100,000 or less are now well over $300,000. My finances have been sketchy, but now I'm making more than I ever have, but I'm priced out of the market (if I don't want a full reno and mold removal). It's so frustrating. Several new complexes are going up, so I'm actually quite worried about the increase in rent. Trying so hard not to get overwhelmed by it all. Thank you for your videos and advice.

I must say I admire you guys so much and that is so visible that it was a transformative journey that forged you into the best version of yourself. You are so inspiring with your natural beauty and for creating art as a ritual/ almost like playing. I wish you all the best with the housing situation, I am renting for 10 years too and it can be challenging at times, however when things seem to fall apart what I like to do is to remind myself that they are actually falling into place. Peace!

Never surrender never give in. Easier to say then do but at times we must. Sometimes I let things get me to a state of panic, but it’s hard to just shut of the bad stuff and not let it get to us. But even at my worse I try to tell myself it’s all for a reason it what will get us to where we are ment to be. So if your ment to have that dream cottage/art studio your get it. Did notice that the roads in England don’t look any bigger then I remember lol. It’s been awhile since I been back but the backing up on the lanes to let another car go through is something we still remember. I remember my GI hubby thinking he could drive a large American car down them roads lol. It makes me homesick some times. Anyway keep smiling keep dancing and your get through any thing.
