I love that journal where anything goes. It's incredible. I'm always inspired by your abstract works. So many solid ideas that lead to freedom, play and fun while exploring ideas with different media. You are a real breath of fresh air Sonia. 🎨 🍄🌸🌿🌈🍥🎆🖌️🖍️
Hi, Erin! New subscriber here from Portugal 🇵🇹! I’ve been watching some of your videos and I love your intuitive process and how you don’t think too much. This is a beautiful spread and, like you, I love gesso instead of white paint and I love to use my fingers instead of brushes! So fun! 🧡💚❤️💙💜💛♥️🖤💗
I love your videos. I spent 22 years in Portland, ME and don't miss the AC window units in the summer! LOL. I hope you stay cool. I'm in Nashville, TN now with central air, but I miss the beauty of Maine. Thanks for sharing your process.
Hello fellow, Mainer! I do love Portland. We are just outside there. Went in last night for dinner. Such a cool vibe with people out and about and all the outdoor dining options. Really fun! And a lovely evening as well. Muggy this morning though. Yuck!
So brave to art journal while wearing a white blouse. Love the process and the result...but I always wonder how people can work without making hardly any mess. My room always like something exploded after I end up with one page. I feel really envious. 😮
I'm wearing my son's 8th grade band shirt and it's COVERED in paint! Lol! Keep in mind the camera is zoomed in pretty close and you cannot see the chaos surrounding this page. I get pretty mess and under the white paper (whcih I replace with each filming) the table is covered in dried paint. I'm a total slob. You are in good company here!!
Love these colors. I too use my fingers. I'd rather clean my fingers off than clean brushes. Plus it's just more fun. I have that stencil too. It's great. Also, I can't believe you're wearing long white sleeves!!
Yes! Cleaning fingers is easier than brushes and less paint is wasted, I beleive. That shirt is my son's 8th grade band shirt! He's 18 now. It's my painting shirt and is COVERED in paint!! LOL!
Recently found you on You Tube and love that you use your fingers. I’ve been using a wedge makeup sponge, but I’m very tactile and not a bit worried about getting messy or having stained fingers. I love your very practical and relaxed approach to creating! Recently ordered a couple of your stamps from Joggles, but haven’t had time to use them.
That’s so great!! Have fun and remember it’s just paper. Get loose and if it’s awful paint over it, throw it away or glue the pages together! Just keep playing!
I love this! So creative and pretty!! My journals look so different from yours! It is awesome how DIFFERENT we all are and how our ART shows it. I love to try new things so this was a nice change from my normal! I have so many different sketches and art work on scrap paper that I think could be useful in my journaling. Thank you for sharing!🖌️🎨📓✏️✒️🖍️🖊️📗
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It is fun to take scraps, even mistakes or pieces that you never liked, and cut them up to use another way. They can suddenly turn into something amazing!
Oh boy I super love how this one came out❣️❣️. I didn’t think I’d like the 3 pieces but the way you incorporated them into it with all the cool mark making❣️❣️❣️
I agree. At first it felt like there was no unity to the pieces and the background, but then you tied them together by pulling elements out. Super cool how it turned out feeling like they were a happy family. 😊
I do like to use my fingers in the gesso. I've also used it with some acrylic paint. I think it has a more organic feel to it and look. Your page is beautiful and very inspiring for me as I journey into mixed media a little more. It definitely is not my comfort zone but I want to learn. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. I checked into fodder school but it was way too expensive for me so I will try to catch what I can here in there
I agree about using fingers. And I think I use less paint and have less paint to clean up so less waste. As far as comfort zone goes--remember it is just paper and paint. Not every page has to be a masterpiece. Just play and experiement. If you hate it, tear it out and try again. Have you been watching the free fodder school challenge? That's a fun way to get in on some of the lessons at no cost.
Very happy that on a second go I found you after being led to one video which wasn't the one to watch but then yours showed up in suggested feed on the side panel. Love how it works like that.
Oh wow! Your page is beautiful 😍 ❤ I love it! So colourful and cheerful 😊 I also apply gesso and paint with my fingers and I love that too ❤ so much fun! I love everything about it 💚 TYSMFS
Ha! This video came up as a suggestion as I was scrolling....Listening to you talk about summer and rain I. Am thinking summer and rain sound good right now after eastern Iowa has received 25” of snow this past week! I love your color combinations for these pages! Thanks for sharing your inspiring journal pages!😊🙏
I love watching you add paint with your fingers, even through the video, I feel a connection with what you are doing. I need to try it myself, but I hate yucky fingers! Haha could be fun. Will keep a wet cloth next to me 💕💕
This is so great!!! I'm so glad this was a suggested video for me! I'd love to feature this as a tutorial if you'd be interested! And YES I am a finger painter too. 🤩
Hi, I have just watched you for the first time, and have just started journaling. Will be using my finger for painting. Interior decorator for 35 years, love the feel of paint. Have replaced this art for Stain Glass. Thanks
New to your channel! I’ve been looking for art journal challenges to help keep me Inspired. Some days I don’t feel very motivated to art! I love using my fingers for paint. It gives it more of an organic feel to me, which I much prefer over straight lines and edges. Your work is beautiful.
This is one of the best art journaling videos that I have watched, I love your relaxed go for it style...The way that you brought all of the pieces together was instrumentally beautiful to watch...When you put down the olive green half circles I became doubtful of the final result, you pulled everything together brilliantly...I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Thank you so much Erin, I really really enjoyed watching you create this amazing and stunning double page spread. I absolutely love ❤️ ❤❤and adore it, and I love ❤❤❤ how you worked this to incorporate those three elements into the page. So I’m extremely impressed by your creativity and you too. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too.
I love that you use just regular materials anyone can buy. Many times I feel intimidated when I see others using expensive stuff I can´t afford yet. Your results are always beautiful and your videos are an invitation to try. Greetings from Mexico. 💖
Thanks so much! Yes, you can spend a lot of money art journaling but it can also be done with very little expense as well. Craft paints are so cheap and I love recycling papers, cardboard, postcards, playing cards, newspapers--almost anything. A few basic supplies can be all you need. Even the journal can be an inexpensive note book or old book.
I just stumbled on to this video and subscribed. I've been following you on Instagram for a while and love your work. I am also in Maine. My how the weather has changed since you posted this video! Kind of getting an autumn vibe the last couple of days!
Loved it! Now I need to watch more of your videos. ❤
I love this journal page. I need to learn to let go (and use my fingers more) !!
That’s gorgeous!

This is such a great idea to continue the patterns onto the background after adding the colorful tiles 😍 feeling inspired ❤
Glad you feel inspired!!
I LOVE using my fingers. It helps me to tap into being that carefree child~person and just enjoy and create.

I was inspired by you to start using my fingers rather than a brush and it was a game-changer. I love painting this way and won’t go back.
That's so great! I rarely use a brush these days.
Very happy that on a second go I found you after being led to one video which wasn't the one to watch but then yours showed up in suggested feed on the side panel. Love how it works like that.
