    Man. Relistening, all this early synth music was SOOOO far ahead of its time, it's unbelievable. In my 20s when it was first released, I just sort of took it for granted as the music that my friends and I all listened to. We knew it was "counter culture" because it was NOT played on American radio (you had to club to hear it and word of mouth, and spend hours weekly tracking down albums to buy; it was an avocation), but it was soulfully rejuvenating in body and consciousness in a way I can't explain. It was part of the fabric of making a certain segment of a generation feel grounded in a world that was just beginning to grow truly insane. I think I got lucky.

      Radio was our friend, some got lucky and heard obscure music that they cherished, and others completely missed the train, a train journey they would have enjoyed like us.

      It sounds pretty much like 1969 -- 1970 experimental synth albums

    As a naughty bunch of 16-year-olds smoking red Leb and black hash in 1980-81 we loved the first OMD album. But I remember we HATED the track "Dancing" (it gave us the willies) and there was always a lunge for the record deck (yes, records!) whenever that track came on. No remotes in those days.

    In my mind, OMD were at their creative best when they were OMITD - when the instruments were bargain basement and the electronics crude, home made or improvised. This set demonstrates their resourceful eccentricity and wonderful moments of avant garde strangeness, long before formulaic producers tried to shoehorn them into a bland synth pop template that ruined them.

    it was a telephone number on red frame the band used to communicate with,an old red telephone box.

    • @djphineart
      @djphineart 4 года назад +5

      6323003 was specifically the number of a 1970's public telephone box which were a feature of UK housing estates in the period. Those who didn't have a private telephone in the house could use the many public telephone boxes. The band where from the Wirral where the telephone boxes there where the almost ubiquitous (throughout the UK) Post Office Red with white lighting inside. Always a pity the band were not from Kingston Upon Hull whose unique white phone boxes would have yielded 'White frame White light' :-)
