Number 1) you need to add one of the sauces available. Number 2) you need to understand what Taco Bell is. They have a Taco that is a fried chicken shell with the toppings inside. This is not food for serious people, this is food for drunk people after the bars close. When tasted under these circumstances you will think God gave you a kiss during every bite. And then the next morning it is like Satan pushing you. In the US one of Taco Bell's major marketing campaigns was "this is fourth meal" which clearly means that this is garbage you put in your mouth when you are wasted. Delicious glorious cheesy garbage.
@@simondewitt7161 I think the issue may be marketing. Here in NZ it seems to be marketed as being a bit more upmarket. I remember going to Taco Bell in the mid 90s in California and it was just cheap nasty fast food, so you expected something not so flash.
Like most fast food chains, they actually used to be decent for the price but started cutting corners to increase profit. Now I save my money for local restaurants where they are more concerned with quality over quantity.

It's a lesson in how to present 7 or 8 ingredients to get 8 "different" items, and a sandwich for same cost of a home made family meal for 4. No wonder the place was empty.

@@GaryEatsPoor Gary 😅 - I admire your dedication to not throwing food away, but I don't really see what you could possibly do with that kind of leftovers.
@@GaryEats I think they just make the food bland to sell their sauces. I think there are 4 or 5 heat levels you can pick from so you season your own to your taste. But even their hottest isn't really spicy at all. I have only been there a few times in my life, and usually when it was the only thing we could find - and there are a TON of taco places here in the states, so there's always someplace else to eat! I used to live a block away from a Taco Bell, and it did smell good, but for me there was no value for the money. The only time it was affordable to eat there was on Taco Tuesday, when all their tacos were .29 cents (back in the 80's) and you could afford to get several to fill you up! My husband ate there a lot during his college years when the cafeteria was closed. From what I hear, they have just gone downhill ever since, and quit caring about their food. A lot of their employees won't even eat there because of their hygiene practices. They have served out of date meat because it's too expensive to ship it back! I refuse to eat there again.
Gary, another fantastic video - I love your channel, and your honest reviews. Do restaurants ever challenge you on your negative reviews, or do they give you any feedback?
They've tried and failed in the UK before. This time they are hanging off the coat tails of the rise in popularity of Mexican food in the UK over the past five years or so. But they will fail again.
These large chains are getting worse and worse for quality, they take your money and that’s it…makes methink of that fantastic pie you had £10 packed with meat, night and day difference.
As a Brit living in the US I can confirm Taco Bell it's also thought of really poorly here. It's target audience is the same as a High Street kebab shop after chucking out time but is currently trying to convince people otherwise. It's basically the same slops presented in a multitude of different ways.
@proudofyourroots9575 Also a Brit in the USA, the only Taco Bell I know of here in DownEast Maine is right next door to a Wendy's. I've tried them both when I need a fast lunchi, and the queues are long at lunchtimes at both places. The Wendy's is better than the Taco Bell, but the hot food and salad bars at the local supermarket are better than Wendy's and Taco Bell put together, IMO. Subway is also a better choice than Wendy's or Taco Bell.
I had it a few times in the uk and I thought it was ok I don’t remember it being too pricey and I just stuffed my face it has meat cheese carbs and spicy sauce all I really need for a good time
My wife’s American, and we live in the UK. She’s warned me off Taco Bell. We moved to a town where there is a Taco Bell, and we’ve been here a year. Never been. And after your review, never will !!!
Just shows you the big chains and many celeb chefs serve up overpriced and uncared for food. Whilst the community pubs and small family restaurants have the food, service and quality at their heart. The moral, support the smaller , local businesses and shops, avoid the hype and big brands.
Totally agree. The Gordon Ramsay place at Heathrow Airport is nothing more than a chain restaurant owned by a famous chef. I doubt Ramsay would even eat in such a place.
Very glad you put focus in general on the food quality, tastes and value for the people’s hard earned money. Makes me sad when the owners don’t have any respect or just doesn’t care. But i’ve also seen some of your shows where you clearly see that they value their customers. Glad you put the finger on the restaurant that deserves it, keep going 👍👍👍
The "Volcano Burrito" isn't named that because of how hot and spicy it is, it's named that because of the explosive diarrhea you get after eating it...
Empty lunchtimes in restaurants are a sign that the business is too chaotic (changing menus and products constantly), that the prices are too high for what they're offering, or the food quality is terrible. I used to work in one that systematically ended up doing all three of those. By the final year we spent a christmas in an empty restaurant with saturdays in december still having more staff than customers. It's soul crushing.
@@dazzab111oh yeah they changed the restaurant franchise depending on which country that film was released in, I'd forgotten about that until you mentioned it.
Gary, in the words of someone famous, “Why you do dis?” Were you tired of edible food? Was it a challenge for your colon? I’m an American, so obviously I’m stupid and can barely read, but whenever someone tells me about a Taco Bell “experience”, I say the following to them: “Next time, take the money you were going to spend at Taco Bell, and instead just eat the money. Yes, coins and all. The paper, metals, minerals, germs, and traces of illegal drugs will be better nourishment, and will taste better.”
I’ve had it once in Australia, was a massive deal and drew big crowds, it was absolutely terrible, cannot believe they get away with charging top dollar for such junk
Worldwide, you're missing the point! Taco Bell, at least east of the Mississippi, was our ONLY taste of Mexican food until recent days. I have an indescribable craving for taco supremes with firey hotsauce on occasion. Cravings are then sated.
I had Taco Hell once. It was like one of those Old El Paso kits where you made it yesterday from the worst ingredients you could find, then accidentally dropped it, stood on it and spat on it so you wouldn't eat it when you were drunk before putting it in the bin. Then not realising the power of drunken hunger.

Mexican food is like Asian food - it's best when cooked by small operators who know the cuisine. Turning it into formulaic, prepackaged, mass-produced fast food delivered by franchisee investors and underpaid teenage staff is probably the worst thing you can do.
good point. and same with pizzeria's and burgers. support your small local pizzeria or small burger joint. they are passionate about their product, unlike the big chain abominations.

If y'all want good Mexican food, find a restaurant that serves Barbacoa taco or Taco Al Pastor, they're the most delicious tacos out there. I lived in a small college town in the US and my college cafeteria had cheaper tacos than Taco bell with customizations. There was also another taco restaurant nearby which was a popular spot for folks after a night out to eat. There are loads of better options than Taco bell. To me, Taco bell feels like industrial sludge and I am weary of folks in my life who suggest taco bell as a post drinking spot.

Fast food has become no longer worth your time or money. Practically all fast food companies have reduced size, flavour and cut so many corners yet their prices have pretty much hit sit down restaurant prices that you're better off going to a real restaurant now.
Very true. Fast food is now both expensive and also lower quality so can’t justify spending any money with them. Better to just make something yourself.
Commenting before i even watch it. Had my first ever Taco Bell yesterday and thought there wasn't a single item that had any flavour whatsoever. Dull, bland and boring. No idea why americans love it so much
We don't. We can get real mexican food here and anyone who prefers Taco Bell over even the grubbiest looking taco truck we encourage to join the army. Even the cheap "make your own" taco kits at the supermarket are leaps and bounds better.
I grew up in the US (although I live in the UK now) and I remember Taco Bell being poor quality but also very, very cheap. Looks like it isn't even cheap anymore! Sorry you had to go through this!
I’ve gotten very ill from Taco Hell ( aka Bell ) I was addicted to it from 17 years old to 24, developed severe gastrointestinal issues, acid reflux weight gain depression, took medication, I lost sleep now have apnea, if I go it’s a rarity and I don’t eat it late at night if I have it’s no later than 2 pm, food quality has gone downhill big time and is getting more expensive
I lived off of their bean and cheese burritos in the 80's-90's in the US when I was really broke. Gather all of my change and buy and many as I could for dinner for a few days. They were okay in the US until the late 90's. They went massively downhill by the end of that decade.
@proudofyourroots9575 It was very common among punks/weirdos back then. It was cheaper buying them than all of the ingredients separately. I was underweight back then by the way. If I still lived in the US I would stay away from fast food because it is insanely expensive.

Great honest review Gary, Taco Bell hasn’t been good in decades IMO. They have been advertising like crazy here in the US on social media &streaming channels. The Yum Brands (KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, & others) quick-service restaurants are all disappointing and they are closing many restaurants in order to stay competitive. I thought the churros would save the day but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
in the US, Taco Bell is shorthand for food poisoning.. they opened up one 5 minutes away from us in Wigan, it was busy for a week then people realised how awful it was, I've heard the burrito described many times as a thin nappy smeared with pooh (edited for politeness)
Tried it once, never again. An Old El Paso dinner kit from the supermarket tastes the same for half the price. Fun Fact: KFC and Taco Bell are the same company.
I have to heartily agree with everything you said. We had a Taco Bell here in Basingstoke but it shut down last year with no notice. Whilst it was open it was beset with poor reviews (especially on deliveries via Deliveroo or Uber Eats etc.) The only time I went I was so underwhelmed - the food was brand and tasteless! Pleased it's gone!
I've never ever understood the appeal of these fast food establishments. Everything is standardised so you know the food you got in there is the same in every Taco Bell up and down the country. Ultra processed crap.
In the intro Gary says he visits them because they're accessible. The standardised menus mean customers know what's on offer regardless of location. However, the food tends to be poor and as a dining experience they're lousy.
@proudofyourroots9575 Hello. It is not excusing the actions of Hamas to adopt the Palestinian flag as my profile picture. I display it as a gesture of solidarity with the innocent civilians, many women, children and babies who have been indiscriminately killed in the Gaza strip. What a terrible disappointment. I went once in USA, it was ok there but nothing to rave about. Really appreciate your complete honesty. Hopefully next place will be better.
As an American who went and ate Taco Bell in England, I was really disappointed at the lack of spicing. It tastes very different than USA Taco Bell’s. I think there must be an assumption that the British palette cannot accommodate as much spice.
Compared to places like McDonalds and Burger King, Taco Bell is breath of fresh air. I fully understand that it is not Mexican. You should try the Chalupa. The bread is crisp and compiled with meat, cheese and salad is a good combo.
Canada here. Taco Bell is horrible here too. Is it the worst fast food? No. It shares its place in the landfill of fast food delicacies along with McDonalds, Subway, Tim Hortons, Dairy Queen, A & W, and a whole host of others. All manage to use the cheapest, synthetic ingredients and all specialize in producing utterly flavourless, greasy, soggy stodge. The only thing those food restaurants do supply is loads of cardiac stopping, arterial blocking - gunk. Sorry for being so negative, but it’s simply the truth. Sadly with the proliferation of fast food chains here, there are few independent restaurants and most of those still use frozen, low quality products that are simply reheated in a microwave. As someone who is old enough to have enjoyed real food, I am saddened at the state of what is on offer in most Canadian restaurants today.

I was thinking of trying out taco Bell but it closed down before I got to try 😂
That’s a far better idea for sure
@@GaryEats that and the fact they were already using the cheapest ingredients, to go even cheaper they would need to be fairly creative. same here I now avoid the chain outlets all together
You used to be able to get a big bag of food.. well technically "food".. for like ten bucks but now you get a burrito and a half for that price and it's just not worth it.

As a Brit living in the US I can confirm Taco Bell it's also thought of really poorly here. It's basically the same slops presented in a multitude of different ways.
This is completely correct. I don’t know anyone who eat Taco Bell if they’re not completely blasted.
Most food over there is processed and tasteless crap
@proudofyourroots9575 Also a Brit in the USA, the only Taco Bell I know of here in DownEast Maine is right next door to a Wendy's. I've tried them both when I need a fast lunchi, and the queues are long at lunchtimes at both places. The Wendy's is better than the Taco Bell, but the hot food and salad bars at the local supermarket are better than Wendy's and Taco Bell put together, IMO. Subway is also a better choice than Wendy's or Taco Bell.

Unfortunately, I think Taco Bell just provides bad fast food. I’m absolutely stunned. Is expanding in the UK.
You're a country? 😮
@@stoicsavage509 LOL..,, kinda voted myself a representative voice of the majority of Canadians. (At least those Canadian over the age of 50 as we are old enough to know what real food tastes like)😁😉
American here, and hate. Especially living in an area of the country with so many Mexican immigrants, where I am lucky enough to have a lot of authentic Mexican food.
McDonald’s has higher standards in the UK than in the US. Not saying you should live on the shit, but its levels above Taco Bell over here (which is worse than stateside in my experience)
Taco HELL
You must be an American! 😉😸😸
Definitely
@@lolacorinne5384 Called the same in Canada. With good reason.
