    The Burrs are 55mm not 50mm. But the Chamber is the same as in the MCI or Silenzio with 50mm Burrs, this means the "death space" in the Specialita is smaller. At least in Europe, the Specialita has adjustable Fork for the Portafilter. The non-adjustable Fork is Part of the Silenzio. Silenzio ist the update of the MCI it has the same Burrs and Timer but is much more silent. The Spezialita is in my opinion a class higher than the MCI/Silenzio, it is more comfortable to use, a bit faster and the Grind is more fluffy.

    Great review Gail! My Rancilio Rocky grinder died suddenly today after 6 years of hard work. This looks like a good upgrade. I like the red color as well. Ordered one today and let you know my thoughts. Rocky grinder was finicky and got clogged frequently. Hopefully this grinder is better.

    One minor quality issue I am having. Down at the bottom where it says Specialita. That is actually just a sticker and mine was bubbled and peeling off right out of the box. Laser cut logos on the sides but just a sticker on the front. Interesting choice they made there.

  • @j5235

    How do you adjust the contrast? It’s not very clear in the directions, sounds like you need three hands to change it. So you end up grinding a bunch of coffee in the process?

    Hi Gail, Seattle Coffee Gear’s website says this about the Specialta’s operation: “Press-and-hold the screen before turning on to see the grinders total shot count.” I haven’t been able to do this on my 17NX; could you explain further, please?

  • @event4216
    @event4216 6 лет назад

    Electronic timer itself isn't big update, even old Breville 820 has that and does suspend/resume, too. I gues that costs $8 extra per unit. More silent operation is a big deal, though. I wish Italians could finally make semi-transparent hopper on border of see-it-through and fit lid with a sealing.

  • @christopherhanges
    @christopherhanges 6 лет назад +9

    Very quiet. Minimal ground retention - certainly less than 1g if not less than 0.5. No real static here and very little to clean in chute. Take top off to clean more. Amazing consistency into portafilter for price. 90-95% of clumps gone. Glad I waited for this. And yes 55mm. I agree very fluffy. I got the two portafilter holders although one was a bit bent. In UK here

    • @stevenaples8410
      @stevenaples8410 6 лет назад

      I don't want to sound rude, but Im having a hard time believing its less than 1g grind retention. Has this been proven or recorded anywhere, other than being anecdotal?
      My Atom I had kept an average of 10-15g of retention depending on what roast of bean I had. Thats just because of the inherent design Eureka went with on the Atom though, pretty abysmal.

    • @christopherhanges
      @christopherhanges 6 лет назад +1

      Steve Naples yes, just anecdotal on my one and with single origin Peruvian beans. I weigh 17g on a 0.1g scale and place in empty hopper, run it for 11.5 to 12 seconds when nothing more comes out and it's been 16 to 16.5g so far into a container unless I run for less time. Of course, that is subject to scale accuracy as opposed to resolution. It's brand new and I've only run 318g of beans through it (250+68g). Based on beans and age of machine and varying humidity I am sure it will get worse over time. My house is very dry currently and about 27c ambient.

    • @stevenaples8410
      @stevenaples8410 6 лет назад

      Interesting, just curious if that is because of a grind chamber redesign that attributes to this, or just a fluke(albeit positive in your case). I guess we will see when more of these enter the market, I got burned hard by my Eureka, not a fan anymore.
      They are a great company for many, I have no doubt, but I didn't have that experience with my Atom, hopefully you're enjoying your Mignon though!

    I own this grinder i got it in chrome as it looks awesome sitting next to my Expobar, I can't say enough good things about it, and honestly it's a great alternative to a Mazzer or Ceado I was looking at but ultimately too large for the space they would be used in that's why i went with this.

    • @al201103
      @al201103 2 года назад

      Hi Jon, my grinder seems to be on its way out and I'm considering the Specialita (espresso only). Out of interest, the portafilter rest, does it also function as a switch (press down, coffee comes out) or is the button the only way to start it? Not necessarily a deal breaker as I would probably take the opportunity to remove the portafilter rest and try using a...what do we call it? Cup? Flask? Beaker? But the option to press down to operate would be welcome nonetheless!

    • @jhomrich89

      @@al201103 the switch is press and go for the time selected, you can pause if you need to, this one grinds roughly 2 grams per second so for a home grinder it is pretty quick and also very quiet

    How is the build quality on this grinder? Is it a commercial grade do you think? It looks absolutely beautiful, just curios how long it will last, do you think 10+ years is expected?? Weighing up grinder options and this one looks like the one for me so far.

      It's true machine-grade prosumer. A big step up from companies like Breville. 10 years is asking a lot from any machine but for home use it should do, with a bit of cleaning and care.

      They did not, I believe VanCityCanuck is mistaken. There are actually three different models of the Specialita, the 15BL, 16CR, and 17NX. The only differences seem to be aesthetics, with the 17NX being more expensive and having the relatively ugly (IMO) side logo. Elektros was the only website where I could find a good diagram of the exact differences between them, which they provide a link to on each model of the Specialita
