Andy ! I just want to tell you that I have been watching your videos for a long time and I just finished my first e-bike a bafang mid drive, thank you for all your videos and you inspired me all along until I finally saved enough money!!!!
fantastic! glad you figured out all the programming, glad to have this controller reviewed, compact, powerful, high voltage, and nice design. I used a Nuvinci 360 gearless autoshift rear wheel with an older bafang 750 watt middrive, on a full suspension bike. Only a 10ah/48 volt lithium battery. With a 46 tooth on the crank, it will take you up mountain faces with ease, torque to back wheel astounding. Any middrive enthusiast should try a Nuvinci hub, they even make a higher ratio now, 380, I think. They work so well with middrives....simple one chainline, low maintenance. Even can get the autoshift module, which changes ratio as wheel speed increases...and you get a compact bar control up and down switch to select your cadence preferance. Slick! Cheers!
I just have a bone stock dahon from 2012. I've always thought of where to buy a Nuvinci gearbox. No bikes in Ireland are sold with it, eBike selection is not as great elsewhere in europe. Now, the mad engineer in me is saying to put together a Nuvinci hub, with 5 chain speeds, a mid-drive motor and a front hub motor. It would be like a moped/prius
_B -Lowe_ You can order the nuvinci hub, or built wheel, online. There is adequate ratio change in the hub, that only one chainline is needed, thats the beauty of them! cheers!
@@toyotaprius79 I'd be set with a SingleSpeed-CarbonFiberBelt/RoadBike, Nuvinci, MidDrive + front hub motor. Range(Big) type of battery for sure with Regen. 😎
Nice work and persistence Andy getting this running. As far as the throttle pickup off the line goes, by default the ramp limits in the Cycle Analyst will be limiting things rather than the Phaserunner ramping. The CA's default throttle output up ramp of 2 V/sec is fine and snappy for normal ebike controllers that have a motor PWM throttle where the entire span from zero to max power happens over a small voltage range, but on a Phaserunner or other controller with a torque throttle this translates into like 1.5 seconds for the motor to go from zero to full torque. You can should increase the CA3's throttle output up ramp rate to like 10V/sec if you want it to go full torque with no noticeable ramp up delay.
Love your videos and this kit! I picked one up and on the third ride out I didn't seat the battery properly, which came flying out the first bump I went over and I totalled it. Full warning to anyone getting an ebike, double check your battery is in properly every time. That's a thousand dollar mistake you don't wanna make!
i used zipties andratchet straps at first and held it inbetween my legs while using throttle only. I couldnt pedal at all. I ended up getting a back carrier and bolting the battery to that. its very stable now i can pedal and throttle, going 50km+
You kept mentioning a "Pscho-Analyst" and therefore I've avoided getting a ebike, cause who needs the grief right.... now that I know that it's a CYCLE analyst, i will seriously re-examine that! Love your videos my brother.... stay safe!
I bought a haibike nylon 10 tuned up then had a shot of one of these bafang oh my god what power on the bafang is insane. Going to build one of these too man and get rid of haibike.
FINALLY somebody on RUclips giving straight, and correct info. I personally have been running a Bafang BBSHD with a Phaserunner @70v/ 50A. My bike is strictly street use stretch cruiser(basman frame with tank) and weighs 90lbs. I can still reach 45MPH+ using a Sturmey Archer 3 spd IGH. However, be aware you need large amp hours(ah) if you expect any decent range. I run dual 12.5ah packs in parallel. Kudos on the setup!
This might sound silly, but having thumb throttles can lead to problems with your thumbs. I have thumb throttles on all my e-bikes I have a dual motor e-bike with two thumb throttles. Now my thumbs don't work quit right. We take for granted that we don't really use our thumbs for much other than supporting all the other lesser fingers, but, without a thumb on either hand.., you would be handicapped. Having two thumb throttles, one for each motor, I found over time that my thumbs get stuck and don't move freely. When I try to do delicate work, my thumb will be stuck, and then spring in to action... (No fooling Here! ). I can put either thumb, from either hand; because I use two throttles, into the palm of my hand and the joint will click. When I take it out of the palm of my hand it will release the potential energy. I was trying to do some delicate work on some small parts for putting directional turn signals on a new build and sent small parts flying across the room when my thumb decided to kick them off. You wouldn't think that this could be possible, but when you're grabbing on to the handlebars for stability, and releasing that grip to increase speed continuously...You're using your thumbs in a way that they are not meant to be used. I know what everyone is thinking... I use both my thumbs to shift with trigger shifters. With an e-bike it's a constant use of very little pressure needed to maintain the speed on top of using a lot of strength to avoid obstacles for grip. I never would have seen it coming and it's a real pain in the ass. You can laugh at me now, but if you use thumb throttles; and I love them, on rough terrain, or even road use, you'll know what I'm talking about over time. I don't think it's just me because both thumbs were affected at the same time. I hope this is helpful... If not a source of laughter for some non-believers. Love the videos as always. You're the best. Get some sleep!
I know what your talking about with the thumb getting tired and there is a FIX for that. I have tried switching the Thumb throttle around and using one of your fingers on it in the other direction works well

I have found that Befang mid-drive motors have an issue with the spindle which is integral part of the coil and made of poor quality and even when i was running at only 18mph after a few or more weeks is just shattered, and was only ridding it 5-10m. Maybe some other material should be used inside to help keep it running cooler
Looks good! Are you running w/ the hall sensor or still in sensorless mode? If the latter, get a few HIGO connectors and wire up the hall wires to the cycle analyst, you'd have much better results with torque ramp up and the rest; from what I've seen.
See the last video, this motor does not have hall wires ... yes I know! They use a special IC on the control board so your only option when using another controller is sensorless. It’s still wheelies, startup torque is ok.
I have the ultra motor from Luna and it does have the 3 hall sensors but they are not connected to anything. The controller in the motor went bad after 350 miles and have been looking for a replacement controller. I’ve seen the ultra controller from Exess bikes (Germany) but I’d have to send the motor to them. It uses the factory display which is nice. Your video helped a lot!

with a mid drive can you use the thumb throttle and accelerate without pedaling ?
Hello, does anyone know what is the size of the rear shock absorber ( fox)?
I got a Frey AM 1000 with Bafang. Is there a way to turn down the assist.. even the lowest setting has too much power 🙉
love what you doing with this project but how safe are battery packs ? When I bring up the topic about E-bike some are afraid the battery will burn their home down.
just dont buy the battery packs that are wraped in plastic bags and only cost 150$ my bike battery has 78 18650 lithium batteries and have 0 fear of it exploding it has its own built in battery manager and i use the right charger with it as long as you treat them www.reention.com/ is the company that makes the battery case i had mine built by another company in china that uses there case
Hi Andy, love the videos on the bikes, just wondering if you know anything about the BROSE T 90 Nm central motor that is in the Rockrider E-ST 900. I cant seem to find any information on if i would be able to swap it out for the Bafang M620 MID-DRIVE 48V/1000W down the line. I was looking at getting the E-ST 900 as a start and looking to upgrading it gradually. I would love to buy the KirbEbike Vapour full suspension eMTB but can't really justify it. Keep up the good work fella.
So if I buy your frame is the battery you sell the only compatible with that frame? Looking to build one out.
Hello there. What version of the ultra did you use? Nylon gear+hall effect sensor early or later with less sensors?
I understand this video is old but maybe you can still help, my OE controller has failed and I need to replace it
Hello i wash my bafang electrique bike and it goes off it is only on when it is connected to a charger and get off when disconnected can someone help?
How do you get throttle smooth on settings in phaserunner as soon as I touch it it goes and want a smooth throttle thre must be a way can you help plz mate
Do you have to install new brakes or can you just keep the old brakes on?
Like any vehicle you should upgrade the brakes if you enhance the performance.
hello my bafang BBSHD 1000wat with 48v battery does not render. I have to goals 52v,,,,,!? what else can I do,!? I need strength for trailers and dog. road trip land mountain can you help me, 🙏🙏😔
I have found that Befang mid-drive motors have an issue with the spindle which is integral part of the coil and made of poor quality and even when i was running at only 18mph after a few or more weeks is just shattered, and was only ridding it 5-10m. Maybe some other material should be used inside to help keep it running cooler
Can a 48 volt pack be ran on a 250 watt motor? Will it make it faster?
Ps- what size front crank was you Using in this vid?
Yo, cool build, as always 😂. Comparing to the trek ebike build you did, it has a controller box (silver and bulky one). Is the phase runner in place of that?
this make me think... if one want to keep the same gear and not change it, at this point why not buy directly a motor on the wheel?
What is the micro pc Andy is using?
hey andy, what laptop is that at 10:20? got a link? cheers!

Wish the bbs02 could go like this
