This is when airshows were airshows!Used to go to Mildenhall on a regular basis. Those were the days of so many varieties of aircraft ,which alas is no longer the case due to costing. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for sharing! I went every year from 1979 to 1998, so many happy memories. Amazing aerial and static displays. The aircrews and pilots were so friendly and always happy to talk to us. Those AMAZING burgers (I've never had as good anywhere since!) and the retained ring pulls on the drinks cans - long before the design was adopted in the UK. Funny how an upload like this brings the memories flooding back! Nothing comes close nowadays.
Thank you, I attended Mildenhall airshow every year with my then teenage sons. You got the whole car load in for £10 with an included illustrated calendar. They were brilliant days out and fond memories were formed. That Vulcan XL426 is maintained, in ground running condition, at Southend airport in Essex.
What a find. 1984 was the one and only time I went to Mildenhall airshow. Well organised one way system to get in/out. Remember a lot of car alarms going off.
That’s wy we still have spie planes!! Thank you for upload😊I went to all of mildenhall air fates from 73 till the last one very sadly mist but great memories ❤❤happy days .CHEERS👍👍👍
Brilliant video. Air shows back the day were awesome with the aircraft flying so close, unlike the crap we get today where you need binoculars to see most of the display.
abs fantastic great memories,i loved going to Mildenhal Airfshow's,my first was 1977 & my last was 1997,such a range of aircraft back then & great static displays,as a kid in the 70's talking to the American pilots it was like being in a movie for a couple of days, those shows are sadly missed, the EE Lightning,Vulcan,F4 & SR-71 etc etc it couldnt get much better
Great video, it really takes me back to better days and the video had the only time in 56 years I have ever seen 2 Vulcans in the same piece of sky! Thanks for uploading it!
I was at this airshow and what a show it was. I recall the SR71 Blackbird doing a super slow crowd fly past with its engines popping fire rings (like smoke rings but fire) intermittently as it went past, it was fantastic to watch. I miss those shows.
What an amazing video, really bought memories back !. I went to milldenhall early 90s, can still smell the aviation fuel and taste some of the best American hospitality, food, beer and got to see the Vulcan.
That’s why I don’t go to air shows anymore , the amount of different aircraft here is fantastic , now at shows like RIAT you see a F16, F15, Typhoon and a few display teams and that’s it !
I remember going to Mildenhall around this time, maybe not '84 but in the '80s. We couldn't get into the show but managed to park outside the perimeter overlooking some hangars. When it was time for the SR-71, it came out of it's hangar, did the display and once back on the ground, went straight back in the hangar out of sight.
I always loved the Mildenhall air fete I am so blessed to also spend most of my working day there too. ❤❤❤ the crowds were really fantastic and the planes and burgers were brilliant. The burgers to this day still taste the same.
good to see Avro Vulcan B2 XL426 in flight. she is cared for at Southend airport just up the road from where i live. wonderful video reminding me of the 4 Mildenhall air shows i went to 86 to 89. i fancy a beer and a burger now.
1984 was my first Mildenhall. Went every year until 1995 with the exception of 1986. Like everyone else, miss the jet noise, wet burgers and the cold Buds.
I remember the 70s and 80s when you could spectate *under* the flight path, smell the fuel and feel the warm blast from the afterburners as they did a high speed pass over your heads at very low level and then a vertical climb literally over your heads and having to look up the tailpipe. One of the tricks was for an inital high-speed low-level approach from nowhere, that woke you up after watching a bi-plane display. Happy times. Younger spectators now have no idea what it used to be like, pity.
Way to young to have seen this spectacle I would still love to see these fly today, the only the jets we see are the f15 and f35a still engineering marvels
Probably already stated somewhere earlier, but that’s the great Captain John Hutchinson of Concorde fame. Check out his 1986 tv program on Concorde London to Washington DC hosted by Noel Edmonds
I attended many Mildenhall shows in the 80’s, in the days before excessive health and safety ruined airshows. The catering at Mildenhall was always great and entrance price reasonable, unlike today’s rip-off prices for what are few and inferior airshows nowadays.
Hi yes my name is Dennis Goldthorpe I supplied all this footage which is over 40 years old from an old VHS tape . I also have footage of the Canadian star fighters coming into land and their display at Mildenhall it’s awesome . I will put it on the net as soon as I have downloaded it.
Oh my god!!! That would be awesome! 😎 i wonder how many people have old camcorder tapes in their archives. Those where the golden days of spotting to me..i will be waiting for it sir! 🙏🏼 i have heard stories of the Display but never seen it with sound. Only old 8mm footage...wauw
Hi it’s Dennis here I supplied Brad with this video and it was taken from my 40 year old VHS video, standing on the roof of my car on the perimeter of Mildenhall , wouldn’t recommend that today . I have more footage to come
I know for a fact the Lightning F3 Display in this video is its final display at the IAT 1987. John Hutchinson even quotes "due to be phased out next year" being 1988 when the Lightning retired.
Sincerely appreciate all the positive comments!
Brilliant film and brings back great memories as I was there!
Thanks commenting! More to come soon!

Yes totally agree. Well organised by the Americans both traffic in and the show. Great beers and burgers as well. Sadly missed now.
I agree.

The Mildenhall airshows. Buds and BBQ burgers. Oh, and a few descent aeroplanes to go along as well. Great memories. Thanks for posting. All the best

Finingley airshow four Vulcans used to do a scramble every year until they were retired. The noise and ground vibration was amazing!!!

My wife and I went every year from 1989 to the last. So many happy memories. Let’s not forget it was actually called “Air Fete”.
You're right - I had forgotten that. The programme doubled as a calendar. Brilliant show!

That F8 display is definitely Fairford
Not sure!
Presumably the first IAT held at Fairford - 1985
Looks life Fairford to me?
Believe it’s RAF Mildenhall 👍🏽👍🏽
I know for a fact the Lightning F3 Display in this video is its final display at the IAT 1987. John Hutchinson even quotes "due to be phased out next year" being 1988 when the Lightning retired.
wow, 2 Vulcans. I don't remember this.
Thanks for commenting. The dual Vulcans seem to be peoples favourites
The F8 and lightning footage was filmed at Fairford in 1987.

2:00 is that a Vought Crusader?
Yes - Aeronavale (French Navy)
No its an A-7 corsair with a different wing brake design....😂
@@nielsdorhout058 actually not an A-7 with anything
@@bfc3057 it was meant to be a joke 😉
Volcan😢
Some of this is not from RAF Mildenhall. As the airbase has no hills either end of the runway, and a hanger with a KC10 painted on it is RAF Fairford.
Thanks!
I was enjoying this until the bloody music started! WHY WHY WHY?
