In the Champions Ballad DLC, you have access to Mipha's diary. Link often visited Zora's domain when he was younger. When he pulled the Master Sword, he stopped speaking and became very withdrawn. Mipha's diary indicates that, at first, she saw Link as just another adorable child. When he grew up, she developed feelings for him but hadn't been able to tell him.

Revalis diary basically tells how he learned to use revalis gaze, how the training grounds were created and how he received Vah Medoh he also doubts Zelda’s and Link’s ability to protect the kingdom. Daruk diary relates how he met link and how much he admires him then he talks about being hungry and that he started noticing how zelda and link became closer to each other. the Dlc also includes a few extra shrines, master mode a small extra story and a motorcycle
... Is this evidence for my unwilling weaponized!Link headcanon? It's basically that Link never wanted to be a warrior or hero of fabled strength, but after SOMETHING that demonstrated how important he was(like the Lynel or pulling the Master Sword) that choice was taken from him. I interpreted his lack of talking being the logic that "why would a weapon talk?" and his love of food being a coping mechanism as a small reminder he's still a person.

It's also stated in Mipha's diary that he could best all the swordsmen in Hyule by 4 yrs old. You could take it as that he wanted to be another "face in the crowd", normal knight but when he pulled the Master Sword at 12-13, destiny threw his life out of order!
I think it is actually confirmed that Yona is from another domain, away from Hyrule. iirc it's either in her character bio, or it's in the dialogue of her attendants. Even for her two attendants that are with her are different from the other Zora, they wear similar adornments, and they both have spots in places that most of the other Zora do not have. Which is a neat, world-buildy explanation as to why we never saw her back in BotW. Love the art as always! It's very pretty, the only Yona hate I saw was towards her color scheme, but I thought it was really complimentary to Sidon's color scheme and pretty cute and distinct.

I understand that Yona's appearance can be a bit shocking compared to the others and her sudden arrival, but after a while I see something cute about her. Yes, there are people who are prettier than others, but that doesn't stop a relationship from continuing if it's for love and you shouldn't say that someone is too ugly for someone else because that's up for the couple, if you love a person just for their appearance that won't sustain your relationship.

Honestly it's very likely that Mipha wasn't fully grown even at the time of her death, and is basically the Zora equivalent of a teenager. Which would be less than 100, since many of the adults post-timeskip were little kids before the time skip (about the same age as Sidon). That, and she mentioned Link growing up faster than her, which implied that she was still growing up as well. Plus, she's really small for a Zora. I'd imagine that Zora basically grow up at a similar rate to Hylians for a while (a bit slower, but not like 10x or anything) and then just keep going, which takes a while.
I think if mipha didn't die she'd be like 7 feet tall minimum. Sidon is twice link's height (so he's 10 feet tall) and their dad is the size of a small room.
Actually yes ! :) Yona comes from an another domain, informations about her and her relationship with Sidon are written by Sidon himself on one of the 11th memories stones. It is situated below the Luto's crossing and it explain why people say that Sidon have a sibling relationship toward Yona. Go check it out ! ^^ It's really a great hide and seek to find them all, and, it quite explain many things about what happenned at the Zora Domain between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
If it a mixture of a romantic and political marriage then my theory is that she’s a River Zora princess trying and maybe succeeding in reuniting the Zora tribes and before you say she doesn’t look like a River Zora it could be a design or evolutionary change
I always headcanoned that, since we never saw Yona or another Zora domain in BOTW, that she came from the Necluda Sea and just swam her way to Sidon with her assistants. I thought it would be cool if her domain was like Eventide Island, all the way out in the open sea to where we couldn't see it. My ideal design for such a place would be an intricate tower that peaks out from the waters, with spacious platforms for non-Zora visitors to stay on. But, attached to that bit of tower that peaks through, all the way under the waters, is a very elaborate domain that sinks all the way down to the dark depths of the ocean, looking like a submerged tree with all the different branches holding rooms and hallways. So, kind of like Rito village, but more convenient for sea-like Zora.
Yona being from a different domain is actually canon. I believe it's in her character profile and/or stated when she's first introduced, but it's definitely canon.
Ngl my first reaction is “I reject your reality and substitute my own” but like I don’t think there’s any reason to bash her character, she’s perfectly fine and like people- just make your own fanfics-
I like to think that some Zora tribes just look dramatically different and just adapt to new biomes super quickly, explaining the Rito, as well as distinction of freshwater and saltwater Zora looking so different in the first place. I feel as though Yona and Councilman Muzu are related, both being green devil-fish rays. If she was the child/niece of Muzu, then visiting her elder father/uncle would only make sense if his health began to fail him, allowing Sidon to see her loving nature and then fall for her.

In Yona’s character description on the character profiles page actually says she is from a different domain and that they have known each other since they were kids… or fry? 🤣 Also Muzu has the same manta ray body type. Also, I think people need to pipe down on the Yona hate. Admit it, you’re jealous. She’s adorable, sweet, and her fashion sense is impeccable. I was really surprised when you said that people think Link and Mipha were engaged. Cuz I haven't seen any of that either. I'm very much in the camp that Link didn't and doesn't know, he knows she likes him, but is too busy, perhaps too dense and focused on Zelda, to think of it as any more than friendship/work relationship. I'm not even sure she would actually have given him the armour, in THAT way anyway, and I wonder if she wasn't just dreaming. She knows Link and Zelda, if she can't have Link, maybe she plans on not having anyone? I haven't seen much of Sidon and Yona yet, even if there are political pressures, they seem very much emotionally involved. How long is too long for Sidon to miss his bro Link? Ngl when i first played through zoras domain myself i couldn't stop noticing how much Yona was talking about how much Sidon would talk about Link and how such good best friends they were. To me it really feels like nintendo didn't like people shipping Sidon and Link to the extent they did and threw in Yona and a bunch of diologe from her [when shes only talking to link] mentioning how SUCH good BEST FRIENDS sidon and link were BUT BUT BUT i like her so much, Yona and sidon clearly love eachother a lot and its super sweet!! and while her design took a second to grow on me shes just soo cute now

Okay, it’s funny how (almost) every Link has a redhead love interest that starts with M, but what’s funnier is that the two Links that got direct sequels to their games also ended up with the typical Zora engagement gift. This isn’t saying it has to be for engagement, just that it’s typically meaning engagement in the Zora royal family. What’s even better is that first Zora to do this was named Ruto, which is the Zora Vah Ruta was named after. The Divine Beast Mipha piloted, her being the only other Zora (so far as I know) to give a (typically engagement) gift to a Link. The similarities between the two… at least Mipha wasn’t as… annoying.
I don't think its necessarily that Link has never visited Sidon, but it is some time before Link wakes up at the start of TOTK. If Sidon and Link truly were best friends Sidon might consider a couple days far too long to be away, which is entirely possible. And don't forget, you also have to get off the Great Sky Islands, which probably would have taken a couple days as well. Meaning it could have been a week or two between the opening cutscene to the game and link getting off the Great Sky Islands ALONE. Even if Link had gone straight to Zora's Domain, which is incredibly unlikely since you need to grab the paraglider and talk to Impa, it probably would have taken a day or two as well, which would make for at least 2 weeks since Link has seen Sidon, and it could be more if Link hadn't visited for a couple days before the events of the opening cutscene. So no, I don't think Link ghosted Sidon for a couple years, I think Link got a new arm, awakened a Demon King, fell asleep and woke up on an island in the sky.

While I'm not a Zelink shipper for BOTW (Skyward sword they're practically already married and you can pry it out of my cold dead hands) or even for most games I can respect your stance and ship since it is cute. Especially when Zelda tries to feed Link a frog- Now as a Mipha lover I love your design for her and Sidon, as they're some of my favorite Legend of Zelda characters, and yeah this Link is a feral child though I interpreted his mellowing out around Zelda as his burden as the person who wields the sword that seals the darkness getting to him. Yona IS from another domain, it is mentioned in game that she is royalty from another Sora domain, she also came to hyrule’s Zora’s domain with 2 other zoras who both wear gold as well which is probably where the political marriage thing came from but I personally think her royalty was probably why they know each other and not the reason of marriage, her addition in totk was so nice I just love yona and sidons relationship it’s so sickly cute
I agree with everything you said about yona and sidons relationship and I find them very cute together, but he definitely saw her as an older sister type figure when they first met from his updated inscriptions on the memory stones. And while his view of her clearly changed with time it did start as an arranged marriage as he states in the very same stone. I don’t know felt the need to add my thoughts as the memory stones are very easy to miss in totk and I haven’t seen many people talk about them.
To my understanding, Mipha and Link were basically always very close friends, and the reason they stopped hanging out as often was because Link pulled the Master Sword and was appointed as Zelda's personal knight. I mean, they were close enough for Mipha to immediately recognize that something was bothering Link after pulling the Master Sword, as well as close enough for her to fall in love with him. She doesn't seem like the type of person who would randomly fall in love with some random kid she barely sees and hasn't seen since he was a kid.
My theory is that Mipha at first saw Link as a little brother essentially until the incident with the lynel when she realized that she liked him as a guy and wanted to confess using the zora armor but never got the chance.
Hey, great redesigns, just wanted to point out as a Mexican player that on the spanish translation of the game there are no references to romance between Sidon and Yona as they never express love for each other, just care because of being friends, maybe that’s the case for other translations and so i wouldn’t blame anyone for thinking there’s nothing more than a friendship Also love Yona too btw

the Sidon seeing Yona as a sister thing is from one of the wall script’s around the domain in totk, it pretty much says she was close with Mipha and in his words “it was like having two big sisters!” so yes it it is in canon but that doesn’t mean their relationship couldn’t have changed over the hundred years between.

@@callimara I know. Actually the headcanon, I have is that Link and Zelda are together but it took a year or two before they actually became a couple because they both went through a lot of trauma and there was the small matter of rebuilding Hyrule.
Don't forget that a few people accepted Yona and now consider it an ot3, I personally really like Yona soooooo edit: I do think Yona was brought in purely because of the Sidlink ship. I wish there was more around Yona, I feel like we were lacking with Yona content. But then again I could just be salty because I like her character.
I love Yona, she is such a cool and sweet character and all her interactions with Sidon are so adorable. One can really tell they care deeply for each other. She is also mentioned on those memorial stones written by Sidon.
So there's actually a wonderful story I was reading. It is called "My Favourite Place is By Your Side". In the story, Yona was originally in love with Mipha and Sidon sees her as more of a sister figure. However, they still love and care for eachother, and gove the outward appearance of being married. Though they support eachother in their separate relationships outside of the political marriage. I honestly find it a nice take because there isn't any hate on Yona, and her and Sidon are still allowed to care and love eachother, just not in a romantic way. Oh, and the author also builds on Yona's different ancestry and the lore of her home domain!
I would definitely have preferred it if MiphLink was purely platonic, and that's how I tend to view it. Mipha is just like 'Oh, you're a cute litttle gremlin child. Oh, you grow so fast, little gremlin. Oh wait your kind can't breath underwater? Here, I'll make you something that you can. A way to invite you into the family. Even though it's technically for weddings, gremlin child, I don't see you like that. You're my cute little Gremlin Brother. Almost as cute as Sidon. Though he grows much slower than you, Gremlin.'

In Tears of the Kingdom, it is mentioned by some of the Zora that Yona comes from a different Domain, so your theory that she's from outside Hyrule is very probable. Maybe even canon.
I'm so glad someone else also likes Yona! I mean yeah I was shocked and dishearted when I found out Sidon was engaged, but that was from being spoiled by a friend. The minute I saw her I fell in love with her design! The way both Sidon and Yona click is so cute, and as a bonus, I like to call them the Christmas couple just because of the red and green aesthetics. I'm still a Sidlink fan but it has now grown to be a throuple or triad. ❤💙💚

I’m happy to see that there’s someone else who likes Yona as well. I LOVE how she and Sidon love each other. I also love her accessories, they make her look like and intelligent diplomat to me.
Firstly, I loved seeing your art depicting these three as Hylians come together. Sidon himself during the Champion's Ballad does suggest that it was possible him and Link could've been brothers in law and the king also seemed to know of his daughter's feelings while Muzu was deliberately left out of the loop given his damaged image of Hylians which Link arguably restored. With Mipha's line in Age of Calamity I remember something similar coming up in the Champion's Ballad, so I believe the line was meant as a call back of sorts to it. That said based on everything I've seen from Breath of the Wild I believe your right on Link and Mipha's relationship not having developed beyond childhood friends before her death. Everything seems to play on the idea that she died before she could properly express her feelings of love to Link which I'd believed by this point was the general consensus given how Nintendo seems to slip a bit of tragedy in with the Zora connected to the different Heroes to some degree whether more serious or on the lighter/less severe side. Ruto's one sided engagement because of the Zora's Sapphire, Queen Rutela being killed as an example by Zant, Lulu losing her voice among everything else like Mikau's death. As for all the hate Yona seems to be receiving simply because she suddenly comes between people's ships of Sidon is really unfortunate. Though I can believe the origin of her & Sidon's current relationship originally being political based that doesn't mean their relationship is solely that. I think you summed it all up pretty good between their earlier relationship as friends as well as where she was and why no one mentioned her during Breath of the Wild despite this earlier history. Sidon may care about Yona like his sister, but that doesn't mean it's as a sister.
I shipped Link and Sidon quite a bit before Totk and I wanted to murder Yona like the rest of the fandom at first but now I have come up with a compromise. Which is essentially the meme : Yona : “This is my husband Sidon and this is Sidon’s boyfriend Link.” That’s what I prefer now tbh lol.

i too am a yona stan and i had the strongest impulse to just comment YONAYONAYONAYONA in the comments, but i think there is valid criticism for the existence of yona's character from a meta standpoint. a lot of the more reasonable people who are disappointed with her existence are disappointed because it clearly feels like she was written in to discourage sidlink shippers or make sidon straight (at least, as nintendo would've intended the reading; as a bi person i have a fair bit of grievances with the assumption that being in a relationship with the opposite sex somehow makes me less queer). it would've been nice if she were introduced as a character in her own right outside of sidon, rather than having most of her characterization as "sidon's fiancée" and "mipha 2.0". i distinctly remember a post on tumblr wishing that she had been the sage of water instead, because they were expecting all the sages to be different from the companions in botw after tulin was revealed to be the sage of wind. still, yona is just so cute. i can't help but love her. i think i'm the type to especially love these kinds of underdeveloped female characters who tend to get hate in the fandom when they have so much headcanon potential LOL

About the whole Yona from an outside domain, Sidon seeing Yona as a sister thing, there are stone monuments written by Sidon that explain those. One of these stones outright confirms that Yona is from an outside domain, and she came to help out. As for the whole Sidon seeing Yona as a sister thing, another stones says that Sidon had two sisters, Mipha and Yona. Side note, why would Nintendo add this whole sister detail thing? It just makes their relationship uncomfortable to me, and I see that as an unnecessary detail, as they could have been just childhood friends. I have one final theory for why the added her out of nowhere, as the had no mention in botw. Nintendo must have heard about Sidlink, considering how popular it is. They probably didn't want people to ship them, as they didn't want them to take away from Zelink or something. So they thought the best solution to end the ship is to give Sidon a wife, which is honestly kind of depressing. Still find it odd though that they created a whole new character to be his love interest when he has his own fan club and he could have just been paired off with one of them. If that were the case, it definitely would have felt less off putting rather than creating this whole new character from nowhere with a completely unique design.
I don't think Nintendo is worried at all about Sidlink taking away from Zelink, considering the entirety of the two games are built around Zelda and Link's relationship and devotion to each other. I personally see it more as a natural progression than anything malicious. Sidon is the only heir to the throne, so of course he would need to find a wife to continue the royal Zora bloodline, and they probably wanted a worthy suitor (not just average Zora) since Yona herself is clearly from nobility as well, considering she has personal attendants. The thing that made it forced imo is the fact she was mentioned as a childhood friend of Sidon. I think she would've been accepted better if Nintendo just wrote her as being a stranger betrothed to Sidon for a political marriage, but they learned to love each other during their time together.
Well they do say in game that Yona was from a different domain. Which makes us realize that hyrule isn't the whole world. There are other places in that world.

Lovely art as always Calli! Regrettably, I forgot about Zelda for 3 years until ToTK came out due to exams and school. I finish next week and I can hardly wait to play it and BoTW! I knew of Zelda from a Link between Worlds (that’s kind of how I got into the series and video games in general)
it's heavily indicated in game that there was no real established love relationship between Mipha and Link, and it's noticeable when she want's to tell Zelda about what she thinks about when using her powers, it is left unsaid because Mipha hesitates to reveal it, and then the calamity strikes, but she was going to say Link. But she wouldn't have felt so awkward if her feelings were known. If I also recall correctly, she did the armour but never really "proposed".
I think in a few dialogue scenes, Yona mentions how kind everyone's been since she had arrived at the domain, meaning she's definitely not from the Zora Domain we know, if she's from Hyrule at all! Personally, I love Yona. Her gentleness reminds me a lot of Mipha, who's one of my favourite characters in the botw universe. She's very sweet, supportive and graceful. She's become one of my favourite characters. But maybe that's just my preference for woman coming through 😅 I never really had a thing for Sidon, and I'm just glad he's happy and has someone to support him.
The games are specifically designed to provide evidence for multiple ships, while also not confirming anything. The creators wanted to let the player choose who Link loves in their playthrough. Regardless of story, this makes the most sense from a business standpoint. This way, all fans can feel satisfied with the game, regardless of whether they prefer Zelink or Miphlink. This is why we don't get any specific relationship confirming cutscenes in BotW and TotK. I think it's funny that people argue about the "canon" relationship when it's supposed to be their choice. After all, the player is Link. Everyone can be happy knowing that their preferred ship can be canon in their game.
I like the relationship between link and zelda because it’s not always clear. It could be true respect, platonic love or a real soulmate relationship… that said, I love mipha, but from my understanding it’s a one way love… like with the other zora princess. She made the armour to help the hero of hyrule and in hope that he will understand her feelings. I love it like this, her story is so much tragic and I cried for her, like when you use her power it kinda breaks my heart.
I dont like who'd ever call you a fake fan for discovering the games with Breath of the Wild. We ALL get on the fandom at different points. I jumped on the Zelda train at Occarina of time when I was 11. Some neckbeards who needed to get over themselves called me a fake fan... excuse me for being fired out of my mom's vadoodle in the late 80s then not knowing games for a while. The concept of calling people ''fake fan'' over their level of engagement or when they start engaging with a serie still evade me. If you love something enough that you want to keep engaging with it, you are a fan. That's all. I have friends who don't like to play to older Zelda games, because they get stuck with the puzzle or get lost and don't know where to go next, but they still love watching someone playing tehm because they love the Zelda universe. Still fan. Same for you callimara, even if you started at BOTW, the fact that you love it enough to keep going deeper into the Zelda universe is more than enough to make you a fan.

Yeah. I noticed while playing TotK that he had a whistle. Lol. All I could see is him as a swim coach. Your redesign of him is great! I would’ve made him a little thicker muscle wise and his nose a little more big and manly. His fish form just seems a little bulkier and his nose area lends itself to a more statue like masculine nose, but that’s just my view. Your design is great no matter what and you can tell it’s Sidon. Yona’s design is so spot on!!! She looks great. I love Yona for her love and care towards Sidion. She’s what he needs for confidence… even though that ish took our fish man!!!! Lol. I would’ve loved a little more alluding that Sidon was crushing on Link, but Yona is a great character and I can’t hate her.

i absolutely adore these designs, you captured them all so well and it's almost exactly how i imagined they would look as hylians! also as a zelink *and* sidlink multishipper, i totally agree with most of the takes you stated in this video. i think yona's terrible treatment since totk's release just because she "gets in the way" of sidlink is super sad, as she's a really great character and even though i personally prefer sidon with link, i still think she works very well as sidon's other half. she's kind, caring, has a good head on her shoulders, and is a nice contrast to sidon, who, although he is very capable himself, tends to have a bit more brawn than brains lol. overall i really like yona as a character, and i think even those who prefer other sidon ships should be able to appreciate both her and her close relationship to our favorite shark man. also, both sidon and link have two hands. just sayin'.

In the Champions Ballad DLC, you have access to Mipha's diary. Link often visited Zora's domain when he was younger. When he pulled the Master Sword, he stopped speaking and became very withdrawn. Mipha's diary indicates that, at first, she saw Link as just another adorable child. When he grew up, she developed feelings for him but hadn't been able to tell him.
What else is in the dlc??? I’ve never seen it and I don’t have it and I’ve always been curious!!

Daruk diary relates how he met link and how much he admires him then he talks about being hungry and that he started noticing how zelda and link became closer to each other. the Dlc also includes a few extra shrines, master mode a small extra story and a motorcycle
... Is this evidence for my unwilling weaponized!Link headcanon? It's basically that Link never wanted to be a warrior or hero of fabled strength, but after SOMETHING that demonstrated how important he was(like the Lynel or pulling the Master Sword) that choice was taken from him. I interpreted his lack of talking being the logic that "why would a weapon talk?" and his love of food being a coping mechanism as a small reminder he's still a person.

It's also stated in Mipha's diary that he could best all the swordsmen in Hyule by 4 yrs old. You could take it as that he wanted to be another "face in the crowd", normal knight but when he pulled the Master Sword at 12-13, destiny threw his life out of order!

I think it is actually confirmed that Yona is from another domain, away from Hyrule. iirc it's either in her character bio, or it's in the dialogue of her attendants. Even for her two attendants that are with her are different from the other Zora, they wear similar adornments, and they both have spots in places that most of the other Zora do not have. Which is a neat, world-buildy explanation as to why we never saw her back in BotW.
Love the art as always! It's very pretty, the only Yona hate I saw was towards her color scheme, but I thought it was really complimentary to Sidon's color scheme and pretty cute and distinct.

I understand that Yona's appearance can be a bit shocking compared to the others and her sudden arrival, but after a while I see something cute about her. Yes, there are people who are prettier than others, but that doesn't stop a relationship from continuing if it's for love and you shouldn't say that someone is too ugly for someone else because that's up for the couple, if you love a person just for their appearance that won't sustain your relationship.
Honestly, as someone who shipped sidlink from the beginning, it’s so sad how much hate yona is getting😭 I love her sm (I also think she and link would get along well since she’s helping him restore the Zora armor for him. Like, I haven’t finished the quest but as far as I know, no one made her do that,. she just saw that Sidons friend needed help and stepped in)

Honestly it's very likely that Mipha wasn't fully grown even at the time of her death, and is basically the Zora equivalent of a teenager. Which would be less than 100, since many of the adults post-timeskip were little kids before the time skip (about the same age as Sidon). That, and she mentioned Link growing up faster than her, which implied that she was still growing up as well. Plus, she's really small for a Zora.
I'd imagine that Zora basically grow up at a similar rate to Hylians for a while (a bit slower, but not like 10x or anything) and then just keep going, which takes a while.
I think if mipha didn't die she'd be like 7 feet tall minimum. Sidon is twice link's height (so he's 10 feet tall) and their dad is the size of a small room.
I mean if you look at Mipha's statue, she very clearly was not fully grown. She very much still looks like a child
Actually yes ! :) Yona comes from an another domain, informations about her and her relationship with Sidon are written by Sidon himself on one of the 11th memories stones. It is situated below the Luto's crossing and it explain why people say that Sidon have a sibling relationship toward Yona.

If it a mixture of a romantic and political marriage then my theory is that she’s a River Zora princess trying and maybe succeeding in reuniting the Zora tribes and before you say she doesn’t look like a River Zora it could be a design or evolutionary change
I always headcanoned that, since we never saw Yona or another Zora domain in BOTW, that she came from the Necluda Sea and just swam her way to Sidon with her assistants. I thought it would be cool if her domain was like Eventide Island, all the way out in the open sea to where we couldn't see it. My ideal design for such a place would be an intricate tower that peaks out from the waters, with spacious platforms for non-Zora visitors to stay on. But, attached to that bit of tower that peaks through, all the way under the waters, is a very elaborate domain that sinks all the way down to the dark depths of the ocean, looking like a submerged tree with all the different branches holding rooms and hallways. So, kind of like Rito village, but more convenient for sea-like Zora.

I like to think that some Zora tribes just look dramatically different and just adapt to new biomes super quickly, explaining the Rito, as well as distinction of freshwater and saltwater Zora looking so different in the first place. I feel as though Yona and Councilman Muzu are related, both being green devil-fish rays. If she was the child/niece of Muzu, then visiting her elder father/uncle would only make sense if his health began to fail him, allowing Sidon to see her loving nature and then fall for her.

Okay, it’s funny how (almost) every Link has a redhead love interest that starts with M, but what’s funnier is that the two Links that got direct sequels to their games also ended up with the typical Zora engagement gift.
This isn’t saying it has to be for engagement, just that it’s typically meaning engagement in the Zora royal family.
What’s even better is that first Zora to do this was named Ruto, which is the Zora Vah Ruta was named after. The Divine Beast Mipha piloted, her being the only other Zora (so far as I know) to give a (typically engagement) gift to a Link.
The similarities between the two… at least Mipha wasn’t as… annoying.
I don't think its necessarily that Link has never visited Sidon, but it is some time before Link wakes up at the start of TOTK. If Sidon and Link truly were best friends Sidon might consider a couple days far too long to be away, which is entirely possible. And don't forget, you also have to get off the Great Sky Islands, which probably would have taken a couple days as well. Meaning it could have been a week or two between the opening cutscene to the game and link getting off the Great Sky Islands ALONE. Even if Link had gone straight to Zora's Domain, which is incredibly unlikely since you need to grab the paraglider and talk to Impa, it probably would have taken a day or two as well, which would make for at least 2 weeks since Link has seen Sidon, and it could be more if Link hadn't visited for a couple days before the events of the opening cutscene. So no, I don't think Link ghosted Sidon for a couple years, I think Link got a new arm, awakened a Demon King, fell asleep and woke up on an island in the sky.

Yona IS from another domain, it is mentioned in game that she is royalty from another Sora domain, she also came to hyrule’s Zora’s domain with 2 other zoras who both wear gold as well which is probably where the political marriage thing came from but I personally think her royalty was probably why they know each other and not the reason of marriage, her addition in totk was so nice I just love yona and sidons relationship it’s so sickly cute
I agree with everything you said about yona and sidons relationship and I find them very cute together, but he definitely saw her as an older sister type figure when they first met from his updated inscriptions on the memory stones. And while his view of her clearly changed with time it did start as an arranged marriage as he states in the very same stone. I don’t know felt the need to add my thoughts as the memory stones are very easy to miss in totk and I haven’t seen many people talk about them.
To my understanding, Mipha and Link were basically always very close friends, and the reason they stopped hanging out as often was because Link pulled the Master Sword and was appointed as Zelda's personal knight. I mean, they were close enough for Mipha to immediately recognize that something was bothering Link after pulling the Master Sword, as well as close enough for her to fall in love with him.
She doesn't seem like the type of person who would randomly fall in love with some random kid she barely sees and hasn't seen since he was a kid.
My theory is that Mipha at first saw Link as a little brother essentially until the incident with the lynel when she realized that she liked him as a guy and wanted to confess using the zora armor but never got the chance.

the Sidon seeing Yona as a sister thing is from one of the wall script’s around the domain in totk, it pretty much says she was close with Mipha and in his words “it was like having two big sisters!” so yes it it is in canon but that doesn’t mean their relationship couldn’t have changed over the hundred years between.

I love Yona, she is such a cool and sweet character and all her interactions with Sidon are so adorable. One can really tell they care deeply for each other. She is also mentioned on those memorial stones written by Sidon.
So there's actually a wonderful story I was reading. It is called "My Favourite Place is By Your Side". In the story, Yona was originally in love with Mipha and Sidon sees her as more of a sister figure. However, they still love and care for eachother, and gove the outward appearance of being married. Though they support eachother in their separate relationships outside of the political marriage. I honestly find it a nice take because there isn't any hate on Yona, and her and Sidon are still allowed to care and love eachother, just not in a romantic way.
Oh, and the author also builds on Yona's different ancestry and the lore of her home domain!
I would definitely have preferred it if MiphLink was purely platonic, and that's how I tend to view it. Mipha is just like 'Oh, you're a cute litttle gremlin child. Oh, you grow so fast, little gremlin. Oh wait your kind can't breath underwater? Here, I'll make you something that you can. A way to invite you into the family. Even though it's technically for weddings, gremlin child, I don't see you like that. You're my cute little Gremlin Brother. Almost as cute as Sidon. Though he grows much slower than you, Gremlin.'

In Tears of the Kingdom, it is mentioned by some of the Zora that Yona comes from a different Domain, so your theory that she's from outside Hyrule is very probable. Maybe even canon.
I'm so glad someone else also likes Yona! I mean yeah I was shocked and dishearted when I found out Sidon was engaged, but that was from being spoiled by a friend. The minute I saw her I fell in love with her design! The way both Sidon and Yona click is so cute, and as a bonus, I like to call them the Christmas couple just because of the red and green aesthetics. I'm still a Sidlink fan but it has now grown to be a throuple or triad.

I’m happy to see that there’s someone else who likes Yona as well. I LOVE how she and Sidon love each other. I also love her accessories, they make her look like and intelligent diplomat to me.
Firstly, I loved seeing your art depicting these three as Hylians come together. Sidon himself during the Champion's Ballad does suggest that it was possible him and Link could've been brothers in law and the king also seemed to know of his daughter's feelings while Muzu was deliberately left out of the loop given his damaged image of Hylians which Link arguably restored. With Mipha's line in Age of Calamity I remember something similar coming up in the Champion's Ballad, so I believe the line was meant as a call back of sorts to it. That said based on everything I've seen from Breath of the Wild I believe your right on Link and Mipha's relationship not having developed beyond childhood friends before her death.
Everything seems to play on the idea that she died before she could properly express her feelings of love to Link which I'd believed by this point was the general consensus given how Nintendo seems to slip a bit of tragedy in with the Zora connected to the different Heroes to some degree whether more serious or on the lighter/less severe side. Ruto's one sided engagement because of the Zora's Sapphire, Queen Rutela being killed as an example by Zant, Lulu losing her voice among everything else like Mikau's death. As for all the hate Yona seems to be receiving simply because she suddenly comes between people's ships of Sidon is really unfortunate. Though I can believe the origin of her & Sidon's current relationship originally being political based that doesn't mean their relationship is solely that. I think you summed it all up pretty good between their earlier relationship as friends as well as where she was and why no one mentioned her during Breath of the Wild despite this earlier history. Sidon may care about Yona like his sister, but that doesn't mean it's as a sister.
I shipped Link and Sidon quite a bit before Totk and I wanted to murder Yona like the rest of the fandom at first but now I have come up with a compromise. Which is essentially the meme :

i too am a yona stan and i had the strongest impulse to just comment YONAYONAYONAYONA in the comments, but i think there is valid criticism for the existence of yona's character from a meta standpoint. a lot of the more reasonable people who are disappointed with her existence are disappointed because it clearly feels like she was written in to discourage sidlink shippers or make sidon straight (at least, as nintendo would've intended the reading; as a bi person i have a fair bit of grievances with the assumption that being in a relationship with the opposite sex somehow makes me less queer). it would've been nice if she were introduced as a character in her own right outside of sidon, rather than having most of her characterization as "sidon's fiancée" and "mipha 2.0". i distinctly remember a post on tumblr wishing that she had been the sage of water instead, because they were expecting all the sages to be different from the companions in botw after tulin was revealed to be the sage of wind.
still, yona is just so cute. i can't help but love her. i think i'm the type to especially love these kinds of underdeveloped female characters who tend to get hate in the fandom when they have so much headcanon potential LOL

About the whole Yona from an outside domain, Sidon seeing Yona as a sister thing, there are stone monuments written by Sidon that explain those.
One of these stones outright confirms that Yona is from an outside domain, and she came to help out.
As for the whole Sidon seeing Yona as a sister thing, another stones says that Sidon had two sisters, Mipha and Yona. Side note, why would Nintendo add this whole sister detail thing? It just makes their relationship uncomfortable to me, and I see that as an unnecessary detail, as they could have been just childhood friends.
I have one final theory for why the added her out of nowhere, as the had no mention in botw. Nintendo must have heard about Sidlink, considering how popular it is. They probably didn't want people to ship them, as they didn't want them to take away from Zelink or something. So they thought the best solution to end the ship is to give Sidon a wife, which is honestly kind of depressing. Still find it odd though that they created a whole new character to be his love interest when he has his own fan club and he could have just been paired off with one of them. If that were the case, it definitely would have felt less off putting rather than creating this whole new character from nowhere with a completely unique design.
I don't think Nintendo is worried at all about Sidlink taking away from Zelink, considering the entirety of the two games are built around Zelda and Link's relationship and devotion to each other. I personally see it more as a natural progression than anything malicious. Sidon is the only heir to the throne, so of course he would need to find a wife to continue the royal Zora bloodline, and they probably wanted a worthy suitor (not just average Zora) since Yona herself is clearly from nobility as well, considering she has personal attendants. The thing that made it forced imo is the fact she was mentioned as a childhood friend of Sidon. I think she would've been accepted better if Nintendo just wrote her as being a stranger betrothed to Sidon for a political marriage, but they learned to love each other during their time together.
Well they do say in game that Yona was from a different domain. Which makes us realize that hyrule isn't the whole world. There are other places in that world.
Honestly, yona is growing on me. I didnt like her much at first, but after meeting her in game, ive really growned to like her :)
31:05 ok actually there are at least two others that wear gold when you complete the “sidon of zora” quest. They’re names are chroma and khira and i think they’re dialogue actually says something about being yona’s attendants or something like that?

I knew of Zelda from a Link between Worlds (that’s kind of how I got into the series and video games in general)
it's heavily indicated in game that there was no real established love relationship between Mipha and Link, and it's noticeable when she want's to tell Zelda about what she thinks about when using her powers, it is left unsaid because Mipha hesitates to reveal it, and then the calamity strikes, but she was going to say Link. But she wouldn't have felt so awkward if her feelings were known. If I also recall correctly, she did the armour but never really "proposed".
If I remember right, Yona IS from another kingdom of zora, far away.
I think in a few dialogue scenes, Yona mentions how kind everyone's been since she had arrived at the domain, meaning she's definitely not from the Zora Domain we know, if she's from Hyrule at all!
Personally, I love Yona. Her gentleness reminds me a lot of Mipha, who's one of my favourite characters in the botw universe. She's very sweet, supportive and graceful. She's become one of my favourite characters. But maybe that's just my preference for woman coming through 😅 I never really had a thing for Sidon, and I'm just glad he's happy and has someone to support him.
The games are specifically designed to provide evidence for multiple ships, while also not confirming anything. The creators wanted to let the player choose who Link loves in their playthrough. Regardless of story, this makes the most sense from a business standpoint. This way, all fans can feel satisfied with the game, regardless of whether they prefer Zelink or Miphlink. This is why we don't get any specific relationship confirming cutscenes in BotW and TotK.
I think it's funny that people argue about the "canon" relationship when it's supposed to be their choice. After all, the player is Link.
Everyone can be happy knowing that their preferred ship can be canon in their game.
I like the relationship between link and zelda because it’s not always clear. It could be true respect, platonic love or a real soulmate relationship… that said, I love mipha, but from my understanding it’s a one way love… like with the other zora princess. She made the armour to help the hero of hyrule and in hope that he will understand her feelings.
I love it like this, her story is so much tragic and I cried for her, like when you use her power it kinda breaks my heart.
I dont like who'd ever call you a fake fan for discovering the games with Breath of the Wild. We ALL get on the fandom at different points. I jumped on the Zelda train at Occarina of time when I was 11. Some neckbeards who needed to get over themselves called me a fake fan... excuse me for being fired out of my mom's vadoodle in the late 80s then not knowing games for a while. Not all of us wanna pretend we were fighting bosses in-utero. Im glad to see another Zelda fan who is so creative!

The concept of calling people ''fake fan'' over their level of engagement or when they start engaging with a serie still evade me. If you love something enough that you want to keep engaging with it, you are a fan. That's all. I have friends who don't like to play to older Zelda games, because they get stuck with the puzzle or get lost and don't know where to go next, but they still love watching someone playing tehm because they love the Zelda universe. Still fan. Same for you callimara, even if you started at BOTW, the fact that you love it enough to keep going deeper into the Zelda universe is more than enough to make you a fan.

Your redesign of him is great! I would’ve made him a little thicker muscle wise and his nose a little more big and manly. His fish form just seems a little bulkier and his nose area lends itself to a more statue like masculine nose, but that’s just my view. Your design is great no matter what and you can tell it’s Sidon.
Yona’s design is so spot on!!! She looks great. I love Yona for her love and care towards Sidion. She’s what he needs for confidence… even though that ish took our fish man!!!! Lol. I would’ve loved a little more alluding that Sidon was crushing on Link, but Yona is a great character and I can’t hate her.

i absolutely adore these designs, you captured them all so well and it's almost exactly how i imagined they would look as hylians! also as a zelink *and* sidlink multishipper, i totally agree with most of the takes you stated in this video. i think yona's terrible treatment since totk's release just because she "gets in the way" of sidlink is super sad, as she's a really great character and even though i personally prefer sidon with link, i still think she works very well as sidon's other half. she's kind, caring, has a good head on her shoulders, and is a nice contrast to sidon, who, although he is very capable himself, tends to have a bit more brawn than brains lol. overall i really like yona as a character, and i think even those who prefer other sidon ships should be able to appreciate both her and her close relationship to our favorite shark man.
also, both sidon and link have two hands. just sayin'.
