I’m a big fan of foreigners visiting Mexico but not so much on them living here, especially Americans, don’t really mind other foreigners. Americans come to other countries and expect their culture to change because of them coming there, not to mention the gentrification they impose on these towns/cities. One perfect example I could think of is when I was in a friend’s house in San Miguel with my family celebrating christmas and we had these American neighbors, they started threatening us and telling us they will call the police if we didn’t stop the noise, keep in mind this was in CHRISTMAS and the whole town was celebrating. They started acting like the average american karens calling the police for a minor noise next home… Honestly we have widely different cultures and if you’re coming here to live here, make sure to respect the culture and the place you’re living in. This is not Boise, Idaho this is a whole different country… This also applies the other way around, I have the least amount of respect for Mexicans not respecting American culture when they go there to live too
I don't like gringo Jehova witness who go to Mexico in hopes to make everyone part of their kingdom halls. Those are the real dangerous people in your country. They want to end the Hispanic culture and devotion to JESUS CHRIST

Gentrification is real down here. The mexican peso doesn't have the same buying power as the dollar so there are so many places in the country that are seeing a huge spike in prices which become almost impossible for the people who live there. Since covid, a lot of americans are coming to live here since they work remotely and they don't have a desire to take in the culture and be part of the mexican community, they simply want to save money. In the long run this doesn't seem good to most mexicans. It´s a free country though, I just wish our government would do something to mitigate the adverse effect this has on the locals.

We relocated to Morelia, Michoacan two years ago. My wife is a Mexican citizen and I am from Reno, Nevada. We sold everything we owned, furniture and cars. We packed five suitcases, and boarded the plane. We spent one month in Mexico City, with her family before going to Morelia to be with more family. The reason we came to Mexico is because I retired, and the cost of living was becoming unbearable in the states. My wife is ineligible for retirement payments from either Mexico, or the US due to her age. We're able to live famously on my Social Security income alone. We've been able to rent a beautiful home for 8000 pesos ($400 USD) and our entire monthly outgo, including utilities is less than $600.00. We're able to eat out at will, travel, and save easily. The people, culture, architecture, and of course, the food, are all amazing. Easily the best move I've ever made. We've never been victimized by any crime, and I've never been made to feel unwelcome. VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽

"My feminine side is blown away". So funny! I've been to both Bali + SMD. One thing that Bali has in spades over SMD is nature. I find that Mexican towns are all concrete - very, very nice concrete in this case but not enough green for me to live there. Both cultures are friendly but I find Mexicans to be the friendliest people I've come across in my travels. And I cannot get over the food and the beautiful decor. To die for. And your Spanish is impressive!
Hey Cinzia! Thanks for the nice comments about our places and people. Have u visited Saltillo, Coahuila? I think as Americans and Europeans we see that tourism and expats are making these small towns better but in reality there are deep underlying issues that we cause and the locals are they ones that pay for it. It's not very clear cut tho.
Expats = immigrants No difference, it's just to make them feel that they have no necessity, so the Cubans Ukrainians, Venezuelan and other nationalities are expats in USA too or immigrants?

Hi there! I had originally came to your channel when we were considering expat living in Portugal. We had decided to shift our focus to Mexico; mainly because we still have 3 of our 4 parents alive and it would be best that we are closer to the US. And, here, I see you two are in Mexico now! Bonus!! I need to get caught up on your Mexico series. We have done 2 exploratory trips to Mexico since September; one to Mazatlan and one to Mexico City. We generally are looking for a Centro type life style where e can walk to everything….and there is a ton of stuff going on every day. And, we are live music fans; either a gringo band or a host nation band…it doesn’t matter at all. We left Mazatlan still preferring their Centro. But, for Mexico City, the Centro didn’t do it for us. Don’t get me wrong, the buildings were incredible. Maybe it was the extreme hustle bustle were we didn’t feel a community feel. We found that down in Coyoacan. Ironically, the big expat areas of Poland, Roma, and Condesa didn’t do it for us. But….in Coyoacan, we felt like we could befriend the locals in that area. This spring, we are planning to go see Oaxaca. My wife’s aunt goes there yearly and it would be awesome to visit with her….or maybe we do a joint venture on a place. And though I have generally discounted the mega gringo spots of San Miguel or Ajijic, I think we should visit at least on of those spots. Your video here of San Miguel is incredible! Safe travels!
To Americans moving to Mexico. If you are working remote for an American company and you want to rent long term for $700usd a month (usually a 500 to 1000 sq ft loft or 2-3 bedroom house in a sketchy neighborhood) it makes sense to move to Mexico. Hopefully your American remote job allows for you to leave your country. If you don't have a remote jobs, how will you have sustainable living at $2,500usd per month, which is recommended in order to get permanent residency? If you think you are going to buy a house, time share, luxury rental and use it as an airbnb, the Municipal in San Miguel de Allende just passed a law that you have to pay the exploitive price of $45,000mx per year $2,500usd for a permit just to run only 1 rental on any digital platform. You will also be required to pay 20% of each rental or booking to State and another 20% t to Federal. If you think you are going to make money off of a rental, long term, underground style/cash only, you will be in competition with all the hundreds of expats and Mexicans who are also renting rooms in places like San Miguel. If you are an artist moving to San Miguel there is a lot of competition, over 200 galleries, most commercial artists, who pay to play and there are months where some of the galleries don't sell or sell very little, because San Miguel is a small town and not Mexico City or Monterrey. San Miguel needs other types of jobs outside of tourism, like technology. If you get a work permit to work in Mexico for a Mexican business, expect to be paid 1/3 less than American jobs. Not trying to be negative. But after living more than 20 years in Mexico, I wanted to give a reality check, so those of you who really want to move here, can prepare financially for your future.
I’m so happy you all like San Miguelito Allende, I came to USA and been treated real good, so my beautiful Americans now is time to come and live some time of your life with your Mexican friends.
We are retiring to Mexico in a few months. The first two places we eliminated from our list of possible cities were San Miguel de Allende and the Lake Chapala area. To each his own but what we did not want was an expat enclave with higher prices and culturally USA-light. We speak Spanish, have lived abroad before, and want a truly Mexican cultural experience.
@@billk8899 We plan to travel to many places- Cuenca, Ecuador Manizales, Colombia Arequipa, Peru Buenas Aires, Argentina ….turns out we may actually start in Matagalpa, Nicaragua instead of Mexico…long story but my wife is originally from Nicaragua.
Yes gentrification has become a topic here in Mexico, personally i need to see a proper study on how economic impact on domestic businesses offsets gentrification....yet we here in Mexico need to remember our paisanos who ask for a better life across the border, we must be congruent....basically the golden rule: do unto others....
We've been undecided about Portugal vs Mexico forever. Mexico and it's people are vibrant. One feels alive. Portugal on the other hand, is beautiful but is a bit sleepy and unmotivating the culture melancholic. It's also getting so expensive and not worth what you get. In Mexico the homes are spectacular and significantly more affordable.
This is the best video I’ve seen on San Miguel so far! I only stayed there for two weeks a couple of months ago. San Miguel would have to be the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to. I’m from Australia and the only problem I had was with cranky retired American women 😂

I am Mexican and this type of social movements, which for the foreigner who can afford to live, has become a problem for the locals due to the increase of costs in the places where they come to stay. It is good that they come as tourists to our country but when they come to live here it is a threat to the life of the local people who cannot compete with their capital and we have to move to the most marginalized places.
Sadly, Ajijic has turned into such a sprawling city with to many Norte Americanos living a communal lifestyle without assimilating with the real lifestyles of local people. When my father built our house there in 1964, you could still eat the fish out of Lago Chapala. Little packs of dried chili coated "French fries", and a cold cerveza. Not any more. To many strips of homes around the lake with pollution a huge issue. Pobre Lago..
Fuimos en Bus en navidad desde Ciudad de mexico y el bus es fabuloso, economico mejor que primera clase en avion, seguro, y San Miguel hermoso. Nos encanto.
another excellent video! I was worried at first that you were going to say the reason was only because of the lower prices. but of course its about quality of life and freedom vs our "more advanced countries" where everything is getting to be soulless and joyless. everything is about safety and corporatism and it is literally destroying our humanity. we are nothing but consumers and tax payers back there. in Mexico the human spirit is free to thrive and you can make many more decisions for yourself... like drinking water out of a puddle in the middle of a field! or having an entire family of 5 people on a motorcycle with no helmets! I've stayed in about 15 different places in Mexico so far but didnt go to San Miguel yet. it looks amazing. I have a Mexican girlfriend who works as an English teacher in Guadalajara so I have made this city home for now. its a very civilized mix of traditional and modern.
You are right about freedom! is probably another thing that any American or Canadian is gonna experience in Mexico, I’ve seen videos of Americans living in Mexico saying how at the beginning, you probably won’t notice, but as time passes you will feel more “free”, in many aspects, one aspect is that in Mexico you are not over regulated, you don’t need permissions to build a house, or to add rooms, or to put a little business in front of your house or to have a hotdog cart , ir if you have your family in the back of an open truck, or if you want to have a henhouse and the rooster starts singing, the police won’t come at your door. that’s what comes to my head but there’s plenty of examples.
I LOVE these videos of you guys visiting the state of Guanajuato! My parents were born & raised there. I lived my first 9 years there now I live in Atlanta. I loved the Saint Miguel video & the Guanajuato City video, could you PLEASE do a video on Moroleon, Guanajuato. That's ridiculous, I want to move there also, but other than finding a house and a job, my second job is to learn the language ASAP. For them to expect everyone speak English is extremely arrogant.
@Maybelater50 As long as you try to speak some Spanish, you will find support anywhere. Nobody will make fun or criticize your efforts. The more you risk, the faster you will learn! ¡Andale!
I agree if one doesn’t make an effort to learn Spanish while living in Mexico, that’s annoying. But I must defend my Canadian husband who is smart and kind but has a difficult time learning languages. He tries but a new language doesn’t seem to stick in his brain. I grew up learning Spanish, so I can communicate in Spanish on a basic level when we travel to Spanish speaking countries. I imagine if we immersed, he might have an easier time with the language

Gracias por hablar de tan hermosa forma de mi país.
They started acting like the average american karens calling the police for a minor noise next home…
Honestly we have widely different cultures and if you’re coming here to live here, make sure to respect the culture and the place you’re living in. This is not Boise, Idaho this is a whole different country…
This also applies the other way around, I have the least amount of respect for Mexicans not respecting American culture when they go there to live too
I agree with you. The respect needs to go both ways. Peace and love to you in the new year
@@joyodrobina6893 To you too friend!
I don't like gringo Jehova witness who go to Mexico in hopes to make everyone part of their kingdom halls. Those are the real dangerous people in your country. They want to end the Hispanic culture and devotion to JESUS CHRIST
Don’t Mexicans do that in America lol

I went to SMA last winter for 7 weeks to celebrate turning 60! I showed my documentary film there and worked remotely as a coach. I loved it soooo much! I met so many nice people. This was well done and it made me happy to relive the feeling of SMA. Thanks
But why would you say such bullshit, when all of you say you hate us the mexicans and you hate our country all of you bully us, and discriminate us Yes Ive watched the news of how you Americans yell at us, insult us in your country America USA, because we speak Spanish you mistreat us, and trashes us always always so stop saying that you love our country and us the mexicans when that is not true Im tired of people who always pretend to love Mexico and its people when deep inside is not true you all Americans hate us and discriminate us.
Visit the city of Guanajuato. You’ll love it. Not far from San Miguel.

That is happening all over the world, this how the world works. I am Mexican and move to Buenos Aires because I rent a Luxury apartment in downtown and work remotly
Great quote bro! “You retire in Florida to die but you retire in San Miguel to live”
I love how you two immerse yourselves and are fearless about speaking Spanish.
The busses there blew our minds. Mes and Womens bathrooms and seats that you sink into! We were right down the street from you in Queretaro. Perfect blend of US and Mexico
You should go to Mexicali ❤it’s super hot but the Chinese food it’s the best and the tacos are so yummy! We also have giant burritos ! … try Mexican sushi!!!
Mexican sushi... lol ! i've heard many good things about Mexicali.
It gets too hot though, you can't live without A/C! I prefer Tijuana,Tecate or Ensenada!!

What part of Mexico have you been too? Because the more south you go the more jungle.
Valle de bravo y Avandaro, is like sma but green.
Hey Cinzia! Thanks for the nice comments about our places and people. Have u visited Saltillo, Coahuila? I live in here (have lived in many places before), and I think it's a beautiful city w a lot of opportunities. It has everything a big city has, but with a lot of green. You should visit sometime, it's only 40min away from Monterrey! Saludos!
I think as Americans and Europeans we see that tourism and expats are making these small towns better but in reality there are deep underlying issues that we cause and the locals are they ones that pay for it. It's not very clear cut tho.
Expats = immigrants
No difference, it's just to make them feel that they have no necessity, so the Cubans Ukrainians, Venezuelan and other nationalities are expats in USA too or immigrants?
It’s a trade off, the negative is that locals have to move to less expensive areas, but foreigners bring money to the economy and that helps.
A lot of expats donate their time and money in the community . Some , not so much .
I moved to San Miguel last year and I love it! The city gives you a big hug and welcomes you in.
My husband and I loved your video on San Miguel de Allende! Can you tell us where you stayed? Also, your host was the one with the most! What a great guy to show you the down-to-earth real side of Mexico where real cowboys hangout and live their life working hard. Also, can you tell us the name of the restaurant you stated was the best food and guacamole you had there? We love to stay and eat at the very same places as you two did! We are moving from Portland, Oregon metro area to Mexico next year. I cannot wait to get back to part of my roots! I am half Mexican, after all! 😄
Come and see Queretaro. And...the "real Mexico" is all, old and new.

Would you move to Mexico? Why? Why not?
Nope, but I sure would visit...That hacienda was incredible! I am from California and know I will never move back...My heart and home is in Portugal and for goid reason! I really enjoyed this vlog and your interaction with the 'authentic' people which you seem to always strive for!! Amelie(correct?), CUTE couple of dresses...Bought in Mexico? You're both ''selling out''. Mexico paid for your vacation there n hotel n food n car rentals, etc. Mexico has some nice areas as we all know in USA but you're saying lots of Americans are moving to Mexico because they paid for your VACATION there. STOP SELLING OUT PLZ U 2, lmfao at both of you reading a script.....Guess what's gonna happen? PPL LIKE ME THAT BEEN UR FANS SINCE YOU BOTH WERE REAL N HONEST.....WILL LEAVE UR NEW FAKE ASS CHAT SITE.
Te recomiendo Querétaro
One of the best videos I've seen of San Miguel de Allende. . 👍

Vivir en Mexico ganando dolares es el verdaddero sueño Americano😊
We saw several mediocre videos on San Miguel before I remembered seeing that y'all had visited. This was a big help for our trip planning. Thanks!

Yes gentrification has become a topic here in Mexico, personally i need to see a proper study on how economic impact on domestic businesses offsets gentrification....yet we here in Mexico need to remember our paisanos who ask for a better life across the border, we must be congruent....basically the golden rule: do unto others....

You should start talking in your videos about gentrification and why gringos moving to latin america are affecting our comminities.
Yea , the crime from illegals is a struggle in states . I'm not sure if you have to worry about that in Mexico .

Great video. I absolutely love the farm/ranch portion.
There is another big expat's city that is called Ajijic.
That could be interesting to visit for a further Mexico trip ❤️
Sadly, Ajijic has turned into such a sprawling city with to many Norte Americanos living a communal lifestyle without assimilating with the real lifestyles of local people. When my father built our house there in 1964, you could still eat the fish out of Lago Chapala. Little packs of dried chili coated "French fries", and a cold cerveza.
Not any more. To many strips of homes around the lake with pollution a huge issue. Pobre Lago..

another excellent video!
Great work guys. Thank you.

I agree. With few except8ons, most of the don't bother, even with the minimum. And some even demand us to speak English!!
¡Andale!
Arrogance.
Overspending .
Showoffs and bullies.
Even Portugal wants them all out!
I hope they get it..
