Hi Risa, can you fix your (or get a better) microphone because trying to listen on my phone with the volume all the way up you still come in rather low.
Guanajuato should be on your list, near Leon, airport, weather, safe, etc. i have been to all the cities you mention, lived in several and I would pick Guanajuato number One.
My wife and I relocated to Morelia, Michoacan two years ago. She's a Mexican citizen and I'm from Reno, Nevada. The year round climate, the cost of living, culture, people, architecture, and of course, the food, are all reasons that make Mexico desirable. We've never been approached or victimized by ANY crime in Mexico, and have never been made to feel unwelcome. If you look for trouble, you can find it, just like anywhere else in the world. It's certainly been the best move I've ever made. VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽
I moved from Phoenix to Cabo San Lucas 2 years ago. The weather is amazing 10 months a year and is the least humid beach in Mexico by far. The weather on the east coast is horrible with humidity and nasty seaweed. It has some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen in my life and I've been to more than 30 different countries. I absolutely love it here the culture, weather, food and the energy.
Im mexican but i have lived in the USA 50 years and also traveled to 30 countries and i can't wait to go back to slow travel the whole country as you just did, thanks for this great day and inspiring video, ì wish you well in your next adventures
When choosing a “permanent” place to retire for good, considering your budget amongst other things, like climate etc, there is no best, country, city or region! It’s what accommodates you best! As a retired Mexican national Airline Pilot, arrived in ‘88 in La Paz, in BAJA California Sur, still here, living in a nice neighbourhood! Originally from the northern state is Sonora in Obregón, in the heart of the fertile agricultural Valle del Yaqui! Have you been to colonial Alamos, Sonora of rich history and few people ?…. Less than 20,000, no Home Depot, Walmart, no Costco, no Sam’s Club, only local markets! Great late 18 century Arched portal homes! Want the ocean, for that San Carlos!
Funny thing is that I vacationed in Mexico dozens of times (being from Texas, it was easy) but when it came time to retire... I never even considered Mexico. Great vacation spot but it never occurred to me to live there. I have been in Iloilo, Philippines for 10 years and love it. But flights to visit my kids and grand-kids would be a lot cheaper and shorter. 😎
I just came across this video. I live in Puerto Peñasco Sonora........It's quite a small town, about 1 hr away from the Arizona border. It's a growing city, but affordable. Great food, nice people and lots of ex-pats. There's a private airport, and lot's of dentists and doctors. I think it's worth checking out. Saludos de Pto. Peñasco.
Chapala, Jalisco. Expat Friendly, close to Ajijic, my husband's hometown. already built a house there, plan to retire in about 10 to 15 years and planning ahead makes sense to us. we will be finally arriving in the finished product later next month.
I have lived all over Mexico and one of the best cities is Guanajato if you want to pay high prices and be with too many Americans go to San Miguel, I have actually lived in most of these cities not just what other people say!
I love Mexico and have been there many times. The places you mention have one thing in common: they are rather expensive, at least by Mexican standards. For those of us on a tighter budget I would recommend Guadalajara and Puebla ... both charming historic bigger cities but not as hectic as Mexico City.
I spent one week in Puerto Vallarta in 1982, we there during the summer and it was very humid. Beautiful coast and still undiscovered by tourists. Liz Taylor and Richard Burton had filmed "Night of the Iguana. It bothers me that people feel like they can shorten towns in Mexico without regards to the historical significance. What about Puebla, Atlixco, Culula, Tlaxcala All beautiful cities, rich in culture, great weather and you get to experience LIVING in Mexico. Otherwise you are an eternal tourist even if you have your Mexican residency. I love Mexico and have been living in Atlixco for 6 months. What an experience!!! Best climate in the world.
Hi Guys, Yes, it's a small colonial town. There's lots to do, or just do nothing. Visit small town, biking, hiking, I visit Puebla 2-3 times a week. I've been here 6 months, not bored yet. The infrastructure has changed a lot. Lots of construction, but the people haven't changed. I have to leave in a couple of weeks, but I hope to return very soon. I encourage those of you who are adventurous to visit, and who knows, you might like it too.
I'm thinking about moving there, my mother has dementia. I heeda change in my life. It's great the hear to hear that they have things like Walmart and Sam's it's Club but it's also close to California where I have family. Looking to maybe make a move in about a year.

I've been travelling/driving mostly, ALL over Mexico for 25 years. The Baja, The west coast, Oaxaca state, Chiapas, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Tobasco, Guadalajara, etc. Firstly, Playa Carmen is known as Playa del Crimon by the locals (crime), and just because you haven't personally witnessed the Cartel violence, let me assure you it is definitely there. In fact, in Tulum while there we saw the first page of a newspaper with a pic of a beheaded guy. And yes, tourists have been caught in the crossfire. And Gringo businesses have been targeted all over "Cartelville". There's a lot of places I'd consider living in MX that are amazingly beautiful and safe, but none of these are them, for a wide variety of reasons. This list here is the same list all the other Gringos that aren't in tune with Mexico give. Move along...

The place is hot in summer, nice in winter. Guadalajara warm in winter rain in summer but temperature same .winter or summer. Every thing is within Walking distance. Buss service is First class. Bus run every 10 minutes.
Lived in Patzcuaro, Michoacan since 2012. Smaller town of about 70,000. Very busy as a center for many other villages. 7,000 feet in the extinct Mexican Transvolcanic range. Weather is beautiful, all year round! 70 degree days in the winter, no higher than 80 in the summer. Very cheap to live. Never saw any violence in 10 years. Not afraid to walk at night. I had a house built in a development on a hillside, 20 minute walk from El Centro. Home of Noche de Muertos! 30 some miles from Morelia, the Capitol. All your box stores there. None in Patzcuaro! My passport lapsed in 2017, never going back!
Hi guys, I’m not sure what you guys are talking about. It’s expensive over there. Is a good place for well off people over there, not for regular class.
There are certain areas that are considered unsafe like in any other country. But I have never felt unsafe where I have been and I have traveled to many places throughout Mexico.
Shit happening everywhere , i been living around the Gulf of California, Mexico for 5 years and I never heard any gun shot , I heard about crime and I haven’t seen anything. Stay safe & blessings from San Carlos Bay the Sonoran desert 🌵 Mexico 🇲🇽
that's hard to say...if you are looking to rent, it is trickier if you have a big dog -- small dogs are much easier. But you only need one person to say yes! Many of these towns are dog friendly (in public places) -- to find condos that accept pets it's more on a case by case basis.
It's easy to find a place that will allow dogs - they love dogs in Mexico; so many people seem to have them. We arrived with 3 little dogs and have never had a problem renting which surprised us!
You didn't address public transportation. Many of us don't want to have to purchase cars. Comparing Mexico to the States it not a good standard. You should have given numbers and spoke of the areas being tourist traps.
Merida public transport is good, except at rush hours. They are working on it. Since COVID, I began taking taxis at times. I can go to almost anywhere I need for (US$5) maximum..
I have lived happily in Merida for 17 years. Some people find it too hot, but I manage. It´s strong point is it´s the safest city in Mexico. It is good all around.
I wish someone would address the fact that so many people leave Mexico by the tens of thousands on a daily basis. If Mexico is as wonderful as so many youtubers say, why are they leaving ?
I would say Mexico is less dangerous than the US where crime is one of the highest in the world. Have you heard of propaganda because of jealousy? That's what it's all about. As usual they use fear as a means to scare people from taking their $ to another place.
Been in Morelia, Michoacan for two years. Never seen any evidence of violent crime. Always feel safe, not a tourist enclave, even though it's a fairly large city...
6 people were just gunned down at an elementary school in the states today. If anything people should be afraid to come to America not go to Mexico. When people ask me if I feel safe in mexico I ask if they feel safe at their grocery store, school, place of employment, church, movie theater etc.
Great video! Looking into 5 choices, lake Chapala/Ajijic, Querétaro, San Miguel de Allende, Cuernavaca or Monterrey. Definitely will have to live a couples of weeks in all these places to decide.
Where to retire that is not a lot of money but yet has ex pats. Also how much money does the Mexican government expect ex pats to have monthly. Thank you.
Any comments about the effects of the migration issue to the US and political crisis relating to the cartels on expatting to Mexico or even wintering in Mexico?
The sound track is at a very low level. To hear the commentary, I had to turn up my volume control. When an ad-clip came on it was not regulated in volume, and it was terribly loud. This should not happen. All the clips associated with a video should be modulated to the same level. I stopped watching "Best Cities..." I don't want to be deaf when I retire.
You definitely need a car in Cabo. It's extremely expensive. The traffic is horrible. It's just a wierd layout. San Jose is more layback, but expensive. And you need a car. It takes more than 20 minutes to get between the 2.
We spend the winter in San Jose del Cabo, great for walking, no need for a car, there is a local bus that costs 26 pesos for 2 people anywhere along the Malecon
I’m watching this video to find the cities NOT to retire in Mexico. You know the cost of living in any city recommended here will be higher than other cities in Mexico due to gringo retirees moving there and making the price of everything go up.
Its not inexpensive anymore..dont be fooled. Do you have access to anything found in the states? Yes, isvit a bit cheaper than Canada, Europe or the states.. yes.. inexpensive? No! My family's from there as am I ' but raised in U.S.. we've had businesses in Mejico since the 70s. But we've started to relocate to Portugal..
These guys dont know what they're talking about as far as Playa del carmen, its a dangerous corrupt place, 500 ft away from the main tourist strip., very expensive now, 6 months of the year the beach STINKS due to the sagasso rotting. Hopefully these guys know what they are talking about the rest of the cities.
I know, Im trying to move away from the craziness of the alphabet militia that has permeated everywhere here in the US, its awful, I Love the beautiful Mexican culture thats centered around traditional family, god and the church, this is why Im choosing Mexico to retire to in the first place...

Exactly. They are realtors!
Try the lake Chapala/ Ajijic area
Which of these cities is most dog-friendly, where landlords are more accepting?
that's hard to say...if you are looking to rent, it is trickier if you have a big dog -- small dogs are much easier.
They eat dogs their mmmmmm yummy ...
what about pollution? I have not been to Mexico in many years. I recall it having heavy pollution.
How about chapala ajijic ?
what do you guys think of Zihuatanejo ?
My personal favorite..
Zihuatanejo e Ixtapa son muy inseguros
You didn't address public transportation. Many of us don't want to have to purchase cars. Comparing Mexico to the States it not a good standard. You should have given numbers and spoke of the areas being tourist traps.
Merida public transport is good, except at rush hours. They are working on it. Since COVID, I began taking taxis at times. I can go to almost anywhere I need for (US$5) maximum..
What about Merida?
Merida is certainly in the top 10!
I have lived happily in Merida for 17 years. Some people find it too hot, but I manage. It´s strong point is it´s the safest city in Mexico. It is good all around.
Mazatlan , San Sebastián del Oeste
I wish someone would address the fact that so many people leave Mexico by the tens of thousands on a daily basis. If Mexico is as wonderful as so many youtubers say, why are they leaving ?
la,,paz
Love Cabo! Biggest thing for me is the sunshine & lack of humidity.
Lack of humidity? In an oceanside area? How can that be?
I dont understand, the most of you think Mexico is a dangerous countrie, why are you moving there?
I would say Mexico is less dangerous than the US where crime is one of the highest in the world. Have you heard of propaganda because of jealousy? That's what it's all about. As usual they use fear as a means to scare people from taking their $ to another place.
I don't see comments about Mexico being dangerous.
San Cristobal de la Casa is the place to be.
Thanks!
PV is not for me. I'm a native Houstonian. The LAST thing I want is hot, humid weather! Give me a high mountain town with 50-to-80F year-round temps
Valle de Bravo; is 1 h to Mexico City Highway
Where to retire that is not a lot of money but yet has ex pats. Also how much money does the Mexican government expect ex pats to have monthly. Thank you.
I thought foreigners couldn’t buy property within 30 miles of the coast?
They usually do it trough Holding Companies.
Queretaro is the best. By far.
So, Queretaro is safe ?
@@PaulBeetVery safe.
Any comments about the effects of the migration issue to the US and political crisis relating to the cartels on expatting to Mexico or even wintering in Mexico?
So far, I see no effect from those things in Merida.
Really poor info. No actual info on cost of living, rent, utilities, transportation, medical ect.....
"Cabo."
Cape Saint Luke.
Does the cartel bother retirees?
Guadalajara should have been on the list. San Miguel de Allende is too far from bigger cities and airports.
Atlantic? You mean the Pacific! The seaweed is a problem…
Its not a problem on the pacific side
Too hot in the beach towns!
What's up with all the apartments and rentals not allowing pets anymore? I've seen lots of ads where people are really bummed!
Because renters let their pets do whatever
I’m watching this video to find the cities NOT to retire in Mexico. You know the cost of living in any city recommended here will be higher than other cities in Mexico due to gringo retirees moving there and making the price of everything go up.
Its not inexpensive anymore..dont be fooled. Do you have access to anything found in the states? Yes, isvit a bit cheaper than Canada, Europe or the states.. yes.. inexpensive? No! My family's from there as am I ' but raised in U.S.. we've had businesses in Mejico since the 70s. But we've started to relocate to Portugal..
Mexico City? No way, great for vacation in Semana Santa but no way to live.
Wonderful to live if you work on line or a retired
Im selling my house in CDMX. 300 k, Desierto de los Leones.
👍👍👍
All the places I would never want to live.
🤨
These guys dont know what they're talking about as far as Playa del carmen, its a dangerous corrupt place, 500 ft away from the main tourist strip., very expensive now, 6 months of the year the beach STINKS due to the sagasso rotting. Hopefully these guys know what they are talking about the rest of the cities.
This gentleman is totally misleading . Most prices is matched with U.S. dollar . Flight from Toronto is more than 5hours .
Sometimes less, sometimes more. It depends where in Mexico you´re going.
She had to get that homosexual plug in.
PLEASE!!!! Don’t start say letters for a Mexican citizen what’s PV ??? You want to move to Mexico 🇲🇽 learn how to pronounce..
i was uninterested when she said its big forlgbq i want to places that are godly
Stay away from Mexico then. We don’t want religious intolerant people spewing their hate.
I know, Im trying to move away from the craziness of the alphabet militia that has permeated everywhere here in the US, its awful, I Love the beautiful Mexican culture thats centered around traditional family, god and the church, this is why Im choosing Mexico to retire to in the first place...
Godly? Pedophile United States fake christianism? Stay away and establish your theocratic kingdoms in Florida and Texas
😂😅
😂 Good then we don't have to worry about the hypocrites moving to Puerto Vallarta! We're leaving the southeastern US to get away from you.
Oaxaca 😂
The ex-pats are inmigrants?
Playa del Carmen is trash
Lgbtq aghhhhh
Not in mexico , they said in mexico eat cats food, why you wants to live in México then.
@angelitospeludos3983 Is that "eat cat's food" OR "eat cats for food"?
