Rob has been my favorite since 1984. I've been a fan ever since. I really love their early stuff from the 70's. It's darker, more moody... I'd say really rings true for the times they were coming out of. Some of it is very atmospheric and plays on the emotions (never in a negative way for me). So glad you mentioned Judas Priest Maddi. 😊
I'd add the German power metal band, ACCEPT from the 80's. Another awesome British heavy metal band I loved since my teens is Grim Reaper. They only had three albums put out that I bought; Grim Reaper- See You In Hell, Fear No Evil, and Rock You To Hell. They disbanded thereafter from what little information I found on these guys before the internet. It took me hours at my library sifting through the old dewy * dismal* card catalog, and exhausting my brain sorting through countless books about rock music. Back then that's all I had to go on, and back issues of rock n roll magazines too.
I know this will be off topic, but a really good thrash metal band I enjoy is Death Angel from the Bay area in California. The guitarist was only 15-16 years old when he wrote The Ultra Violence, their first debut studio album in 1987. It was phenomenal that a teenager from my generation was already becoming a virtuoso. The only other teenager that found stardom was Paul Renoylds from the early 80's new wave UK band, A Flock of Seagulls. He was just 17. That's all I can think of that a new generation might be interested in listening to. 🎶 😁 🎧 🦇

When I was much younger thrash was my favourite metal genre but as I’ve gotten older it’s become doom, more towards traditional doom rather then doom death. That being said a few of my favorites are The Obsessed, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Solitude Aeturnus, Spirit Caravan, and Trouble.

Great video! Love your content. What got me into metal was probably Twisted Sister and Alice Cooper, pretty much at the same time when I was like 5. I was gifted "Big hits and nasty cuts" by Twisted Sister, and I borrowed my dad's "Hey Stoopid" CD (still my favourite Alice Cooper album). I also really got into metal through a less known Swedish band called Crucified Barbara. I would highly recommend all their albums, but especially "The Midnight Chase."

I can't believe there is a girl that knows as much metal as me....so flabbergasted right now.
Anyway, Motorhead is my favorite band, but my first experience with metal was the metallica song "Creeping Death". My sister listened to the "Ride The Lightning" album all of the time back in the days. To this day, it's my favorite metal album.
Jake E. Lee 's guitar work on Ultimate Sin is simply incredible.
Useless fact: Motorhead also did a song for Spongebob called "You Better Swim" based on their own song "You better run".
I also highly recommend old school Pentagram amd not the remastered newer versions: Sign of the Wolf, Relentless, Starlady, Lazylady, Be Forewarned (original version), Broken Vows, etc.

Anything Ronnie James was involved with was amazing. Rainbow, Black Sabbath, DIO. And he was the guy who popularized the Italian hand sign "the malocchio." Commonly known as the so called "devil horns" which contributed greatly to the infamous "Satanic Panic" of the 1980's. Of course, Gene Simmons took credit for popularizing the malocchio even though Ronnie James did it first. But what thing does Gene Simmons not take credit for?

When I was two or three years old I first discovered The Cure (Close to me was playing on TV) and I never forgot about it. Later on, I re-discovered them and have loved them ever since. Around the same time I got into Metal as well - new metal (Slipknot, Korn), but also Cradle of Filth, Rock music and some punk. 20 years later, I am happy to say that The Cure and CoF are still going strong for me. As time went on I also learned to appreciate many of the bands you mentioned in this video. I still have a lot of respect for Korn, but new metal is just not my thing anymore. CoF often get overlooked or are disliked for being too commercial or not fixated on one certain genre, but in my opinion Dani’s vision, especially earlier on and in recent years is nothing short of spectacular. However, to each their own. 😊 you have an amazing collection and the video is really well put together!

He also made an 11 part docu-series on the origins of metal. He interviews a lot of cool musicians, explores different sub genres of metal, and just seems like a cool guy!
An underrated gem I don't hear about is That Metal Show hosted by a few people, including Eddie Trunk. Eddie Trunk hosts radio shows and podcasts, too, interviewing big musicians in the metal and rock world.

I Love Metal, and enjoy watching these indroductory videos as it helps with interaction with the outside world.
I would add 2 additions to your video:
I feel like you glossed over Motörhead and how Lemmy got kicked from Hawkwind and founded the band with stolen equipment, from Ace of Spades my personal favourites are Love Me Like A Reptile and Live To Win but you also can't forget Overkill and Bomber. Other favourites include Back at The Funny Farm, I'm so bad baby I don't care and the entirety of Inferno
2nd point much prefer there is a huge distinction between the US and the European Power Metal scenes. US is much heavier if that is what you prefer
Edit: Not really a critique but Slipknot's All Hope Is Gone is worth a listen more than Vol 3 as a beginner from personal opinion

Just got into metal a few years ago was introduced to it by my best friend now I'm addicted I can't stop going to shows I just saw dying fetus, the acacia strain and despised icon then I have cattle decapitation, sanguisugabogg coming up next month.. I was introduced through like Megadeth, Rammstein, Whitechapel and meshuggah. The metal community is really something else you won't find a nicer group of people imo minus the very few assholes 🤘🤘

I'd say modern traditional heavy metal bands would be a good start since the production from the early 80s can turn people off in the beginning, but the older bands you mentioned are an easy listen for the most part
    Modern Traditional/Speed Metal bands:
    Vulture
    Riot City
    Ambush
    Kryptos
    Venator
Modern Thrash/Blackened Thrash bands (good for getting used to Black Metal vocals):
    Havok
    Warbringer
    Vektor
    Lucifuge
    Hellripper

I don't know if you consider grindcore metal or not, but the first thing i heard was Napalm Death's second album. After listening to that everyone seemed like they are talking in slowmotion and i pretty much acted like i had 60 cups of coffe in a row, kinda hyperactive.
You did an excellent job in recommending awesome bands to newcomers.

Seen Kittie four times throughout the years. Their debut Spit was nu metal but felt they evolved since, their last album I’ve Failed You in 2011 is more on the semi melodic death metal side.

If you're a guitarist and need a really awesome song to learn and use for practice, Waiting for Darkness (Ozzy) is a great song to learn on guitar. I would argue that you skipped (and obviously you can't cover everything) the one Iron Maiden album that is a great gateway into metal, Somewhere in Time, for me specially The loneliness of the long distance runner is a track I have gotten people hooked on. Not the track you would think (Obviously Wasted Years is the first that would come to mine) but that track seems to grab people. I think it's the fact that the subject matter is not something often covered maybe? Not sure. Anyway, this is a great list and video!

Wasted Years is one of my favorite songs from Iron Maiden! One of the toughest things about this video was leaving certain bands and albums out and yet it still ended up being pretty long!

Metallica- my 2nd favorite band! Master of Puppets would definitely be the good starting album for anyone who would want to get into. I will go ahead and say it- I like Load and Reload and yes St. Anger. But yes Madi is right, their first 4 albums really define who they are. I wasn’t super impressed with Death Magnetic and Hardwired but I do like some songs on those albums, 72 Seasons their most recent album is good.
If you want to listen to some of their concerts, check out “Live Shit: Binge & Purge” all 3 concerts that are part of that box set are amazing! The Mexico City concert is nearly 3 HOURS LONG! (ALSO- DO NOT LISTEN TO “LULU” that album is their WORST!)

I think it’s fun and has some good songs and artwork, not strictly metal like the title would lead you to believe since it was based on a comic

Some people instantly like it all, for others it’s an acquired taste, but not everyone likes a wide array of subgenres and only stick to ones they feel comfortable with and that’s fine :)

If you mean being scared by harsh vocals, I recommend starting with Amon Amarth. That was the band that got me out of my “clean vocals only” phase and opened up a lot of genres I didn’t bother listening to before because I assumed I only liked songs with clean vocals.
