I saw about 2 dozen officers fired during my career that certainly deserved to be in to be and about half of them went to prison, I can think of about 3 dozen more that ought to be fired and/or imprisoned. It is not a solution but it is an improvement. With body cams at least they can more often not eliminate the BS and catch whoever is lying.

Retraining, not to fire a cop by the time the trouble cop is identified someone has been killed by a cop falsely accused by a cop beaten up by a cop the list goes on. You can't retrain someone/a cop on his behavior if it deep-rooted. Police brutality will never end....

it’s the chicken and the egg dilemma which came first, just replace cop with troubled kid in your statement & Police with hood. But no ones wants to have that conversation if you don’t come at it from both sides it will never end. If you look at how the murder rates in the black community declined from the 1940s to the 1960s ask yourself how. Then look at the government programs they offered & why it increased from the 60s to 90s. It was a bait & switch to take the self reliance from the community. Once your relying on the government tit they tell you it’s not your fault & say they will fix your problems when they are the ones causing the problems so you have to rely on them.

While handcuffed in the patrol car they searched my car and found my driver's license. It was in my open wallet on the floor of the backseat In plain sight, while picking it up from impound. The problem is that literally anybody can file a lawsuit with or without merit and the bigger problem is that the city has long ago adopted a culture of settling out. So you really want to incorporate and privatized policing then also understand that frivolous lawsuits are a thing and Detroit has a 40 plus year history of giving cash settlements in exchange for dropping of lawsuits, regardless if they have merit or not. I would say give it 5 more years with body cameras in use and you will likely see a lot more change. The criminal pieces of c*** that I kept blowing the whistle on were ultimately caught not because of me turning them in but because video evidence against them was damning. The problem that I have seen however was that that black supervisors would turn a blind eye on misconduct of black officers, sometimes white supervisors would do the same thing for white officers. A few years ago I was training an officer who had just graduated from the Academy after having to repeat the Academy 3 or 4 times because he couldn't get it right. He was related to somebody important and influential and when I reported his unethical conduct they immediately began trying to find ways to burn me instead of handling his misconduct. He is black and all the supervisors that were going after me were as well. Fix the racism problem and I think a lot of other issues will work their way out but integrity it's always gonna be an issue in any line of work all you can ever do is try to establish checks and balances to keep everyone honest. Detroit's internal affairs bureau is a laughing stock, the BS that they let go is amazing and they have have dismissed valid criminal charges against offenders just to go after an officer that they had a grudge against and they used the offender as a witness against the officer despite video evidence and the offender even admitting to attempting to kill the officer. I still remember names and I even still have some of the reports.

Bad cops learn from someone top. That's the problem. It's not 128, it's probably twice or more. I remember growing up in 70s, police officers always smile, friendly and shake hands. They used to walk around the neighborhood. We would invite them over for coffee or water. Nowadays, they are more militarized and not friendly. I remember a police officer mentioned that they consider us all as terrorists. That's so sad. We are the one who put foods on their table and pay their bills. Yet, we get shyt.

Seems laughable. So maybe these officers could be off the streets in a year or two..... Can't we just give proper consequences for a change? People in power positions seem to always get a free pass. Coincidence? 🤫

This "new" system is *trash* and those 128 Officers will be kept on the job. Also, their Service Weapons are so inferior, they'll need *Rocket Launchers* and use it.
