When bead Fishing I was taught a long time ago to NOT set the hook, just reel down and let the fish hook itself. I’m sure you can still hook up but try and just use the reel with a light drag.
People have told me that so many times. I am skeptic. Honestly, I think that there is a different reason besides the fish getting hooked that people recommend reeling down first. I think that has been passed down from most fishing guides because their clients are not mending their line well or there’s too much of a belly hit the line. When they set the hook, they pull nothing but line back behind their head which creates tip wrap. You still might hook the fish, but then you’ve gotta deal with the tip of your ride getting broken with a fish on. Easier just to tell people to reel down first. If I’m on point, and I see the fish take it, my hook ups aren’t too bad.
@@AutomagicFishingI was thought, "Reel till you feel, then swing on it." That has done well by me. I use Raven bead hooks, which increased my landing ratio significantly.
Thank you, I can’t wait for us to get a couple more feet of water running through the river. That should basically fill up those good fishing holes with fish.
Love those spinner bites! Plus the convenience of just having hardware makes it so much easier to move spots. But this year, I prepped eggs to increase my odds once the steelhead are in
Thanks making these videos!! I found your channel a few weeks ago and learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t. I am new to jetty fishing and salmon/steelhead fishing so these have been awesome, please keep them going.
It would be extra sweet if you could show us what ur set up is in your videos. Always like to see who’s running what and how. That’s where knowledge can be shared
That’s a totally awesome idea. I would give me a little bit more to show besides just casting. I have done that before here and there and I have made some videos what I’ve done like total gear dump. This is what’s in my bag of tricks kind of thing But I typically don’t do a complete how to at the River
Man, that was a nice day of fishing, I’m glad the water was low because with Steelhead gear those Salmon would take me out and beat me behind the woodshed with big current
That’s really true, if you talk yourself out of it then it’s time to go home! I don’t know if you noticed that last spinner bite I got completely surprised me! It was totally thrilling to not be expecting to catch something and get one
Yeah, lol. It’s hilarious how I was getting frustrated because they weren’t Steelhead when one month ago and 20 miles downstream. I would be excited to get out my bonker.
@@AutomagicFishing lol..but im surprised that they were still pretty bright. At least the first two that you caught were bright and hens too. I’ve trying to get my hands on some eggs especially after we talked about curing eggs for steelheads but no luck for me. Just some old chums and cohos😁.
I haven't had a chance to pound the banks here for a few weeks I'm hoping to scout some old spots and see if I can find one on a day off work. Might take a day to walk a new river and see if that would be better for some adventure's!
Got to the bridge at first light and caught a coho pretty similar to yours, fished for a few more hours and didn’t see a single steelhead. Hopefully they’ll come with the next rain.
Tom, it seems like even if we had a bunch of rain early, fish have a certain schedule there regardless of water level. I was assuming there would be some fish already up in the river system since we had so much rain the last couple weeks. I was wrong.
Yeah, it's steelhead time...almost! Pesky coho's! Looked like fun, though. The bead drew the first fish there. Really low water is a challenge for anyone. That #5 Vibrax is worth 6 or 7 bucks, I'd say! Sunken treasure, Brian! These early trips can serve multiple ways. An angler can shake off the rust in his casting, knot tying, and hookset reaction time, among others. You popped the cherry on that new rod! A virgin rod is deadly, from my experience. I hope you at least bought her dinner! 😂 Maybe a little shot of rain will bring in some chrome steelies! Thanks, Brian!
Hey, thanks William! Yeah, it’s definitely important to start fishing early as a good shakedown trip. Also, it’s nice to refresh my memory of what the river bottom looks like before it gets full of green water. It’s interesting because I fished that spinning rod before, but that reel is brand new to me and so it was nice to be able to get a fish with the spinner a couple times
Tyson, definitely the number one advice I could give is don’t give up keep fishing. If you think you’re fishing correctly and you’re not getting bites, slowly adjust yourself so you’re deeper. Do that until you start getting snagged. And then adjust it back up a little bit. If you’re still not catching fish and you’re doing things right they’re probably aren’t any fish there. If there are fish there, maybe you’re not doing something right
Anyway i could join u for a day trip? Im local qnd have been trying for a few years to tech myself the ways, caught my first fish on the siletz on the 5th of last month, was a dark waild buck Chinook so he went back but been planning to get back out and try to fill a couple slots on my tag before i lose it
@ I never fished that series. I can definitely feel the thump of the spinner like crazy, I could probably shut my eyes and throw a spinner and tell you what brand I’m reeling in
Pro tip: please avoid unhooking a coho with your hands. I made that mistake once assuming I was going to be fine but, next thing you know, the coho shook its head and the hook went through my index finger and out the nails. It was not pleasant getting it out either. Other than that, love your videos and the content you put out. Fish on!
Was watching on TV but had to comment because when your fishing a river that heads to a hatchery.. you don't have to move as often because pods of fish are always moving up all the time. So by moving spots you can miss a pod of fish that moved up from down below. I see pods move up two to three times in like a 2 to three hours span. But I'm not much for bank fishing.. I fall to much..
Thanks for the advice on that! It’s always a bit of a mystery. Best strategy is to slowly work down river trying each pocket. Suppose that’s how the term low holing people comes from.

Yes, sir, eggs will definitely put the biggest dent in the Steelhead population
W video

Aye early stl-hd can’t wait to get out. Good video brother
Awesome!! Get some. I think they are around. Just gotta find em
Great job slapping them fish bud.

Catching fish is what it's all about. Nice job! Steelhead are soon to come.
You got that right friend! I love how surprised I was on those spinner bites!!
Always good to see this guy post makes my day
Thank you for the support and I’ll keep it going

Yeah, Zach it was awesome to meet you
Love that people know who you are. Such a good guy!!❤
Awe!! 🫢
I feel like you could become friends with anyone you run into, Brian. Mr Friendly👊🏻
I would probably agree with that, :-) I’m just such a nice guy
Good video as always!

Hell yeah best time of the year hope to see you out there brother
It should be a great year for Fishing! I am definitely looking forward to enjoying what I know and growing my knowledge
The nice thing about fishing low water you can see the slots. It makes it easier to read the river in high water.
Yessir! It’s nice to be able to study with to the river bottom looks like before it gets too much water to tell
Always keep the positive vibes! Never know what's behind every rock

Great video Brian. Might be my favorite one.
Awesome, thank you!
Brian I love the cue of your music to indicate your hook ups. Nice pod of coho and hook ups. Tight lines.
That’s awesome, I do that intentionally on the music to see if anybody would catch on
Nicely done BRIAN, if anybody can do it, you can
Hey Todd! Thanks for all your support sir!!
Epic underwater fish release. Love it.
Yeah, I figure since I have a GoPro that’s waterproof. It’s kind of fun to show the fish swimming back to home.
Nice work Brian. Yes it is early in the season but always a great day when you still hooking on some fish even though it’s not the species you want😎.

Yeah, still had a pretty darn exciting! If you hook one that’s fresh they are like fighting a cage fighter on crack
Thanks for your work on the vids!
You’re welcome, and thank you for watching
Good ol ammermen eggs those work super well on the sandy river! I had a really good year using those!
Ammerman cure is bomb. Fo sho!! I reuse containers, lol this set of eggs was different
Great job Brian looked like a blast braking in the new rod need a little more water would help get the steelhead moving up the river.
Hundred percent right Curtis!!!!
Beautiful winter/fall day, absolutely gorgeous river
Thanks, Jesse, it was definitely one of those perfect days
What a gorgeous place to spend the day.
I’m lucky

Yes, sir! That’s the spirit get out there and do some scouting before all of the heavy rains cover up the terrain.
Good tips , enjoy your videos👍🐟😬
Awesome!! Thanks
Dude, keep pliers in your back pocket so they are at the ready to unbutton fish. Much easier than using your fingers. Nice video, keep it up!
I have pliers on hip. Used them a few times in the video. I guess it still instinctively my goto fingers sometimes. Good call tho!!!
Fun stuff!

I like finding lures almost as much as catching fish.
That’s so awesome, I’m the same way, totally get squirreled by stuff I can reach
Wow that's cool lots of coho in that hole good way to break in a new rod :)
Man, that rod may just be my next favorite rod
@@AutomagicFishing what is the new rod? U didn't mention specs or anything in the video unless I missed it
@@OregonFishingAdventures 9’9” I think and 8-12lb. GLoomis. That tip was 🌮 shaped trying to land the salmon. Had to be careful
@@AutomagicFishing nice 👍 sounds like a sweet rod I'm sure it will be a lot of fun with steelhead
@ it should be pretty awesome, I do prefer the 9’ but that is ok it works really well.
Beautiful area Brian. I got off the train in ND tonight and it was -2°F. I'd so rather be fishing in Oregon than working right now.
Yeah, boy howdy! -2° is no fun

Good episode buddy I smash that like button. Curiosity killed the cat but satisfactory brought him back. Did you get the 2000 my friend
Thank you 😊! Not to the 2000 yet. Getting closer each week

The rod is a 9‘9 I think. 8-12
30lb braid. Maxquatro
15 lb mono
Way to get out there early. Tried myself. No luck yet. Would love to win that giveaway! Broke three rods during Salmon season. Serious bad luck.
Oh no! I hate it when I hear about Rod’s breaking. You’re not allowed to break this rod if you win it.!!!
Maybe it’ll be OK since it’s a Steelhead rod
@@AutomagicFishing Lol, indeed. All were broke on fish if that helps. But, I also had them forever. Cycle of fishing equipment or life. ;)
What are your thoughts on the new rod?
It seems to be incredible so far
