  • A wideband oxygen sensor is a great tool for monitoring your engine's health and performance. We install Holley's new wideband O2 sensor, which is one of the simplest and most cost effective units on the market, in the Horsepower Monster's project Camaro as we get ready to drop in our new 472 cubic inch small block.

    I have a innovative wideband o2.
    it's definitely worth it.
    Only SOLID way to tune a carburetor.
    Using a vacuum gauge and plug readings is too old school and inaccurate.

    Adding a 02 sensor to new exhaust pipes. How far from collector do i drill hole for 02 sensor? Engine is 96 chevy lt1 with stock manafolds.

    Does the wideband have to be in the collector or can it be at the front of the mid pipe just after the collector flange?

      The Horsepower Monster Great choice, a valuable tuning tool and nicely installed.
      However, using the switched radio lead in place of the switched ignition lead will potentially cause problems because the controller and sensor will be powered in the ignition switch accessory position without the engine running.
      Most every wideband O2/AFR sensor manufacturer including Bosch and NTK warns to not power the O2/AFR sensor without the engine running because it permanently damages the O2/AFR sensor.
      Holley's instructions makes the same warning on page 2, "WARNING! Make sure the sensor is not powered without the engine running or damage to the sensor may occur" . Also not mentioned in the video, but worth noting, use only enough anti-seize to lightly coat the threads, to prevent sensor damage do not get anti-seize on the sensor tip.

    If your too lean and change your power valve is it smaller number or bigger

    • @TheHorsepowerMonster
      @TheHorsepowerMonster  8 лет назад

      +Troy mackeod Go to a bigger number for more fuel. The power valve affects air/fuel ratio right when you tip in the throttle and then stops. If you want to consistently change the ratio, go larger on the jets.

    hello, i have a pontiac 455 with a 780cfm holley double pumper, and its always 9-11 psi on the gas, is that normal, its running great but when i step on it, it seems like a little hesitation , could that be because of the engine not getting enough gas? thank you

    • @TheHorsepowerMonster
      @TheHorsepowerMonster  8 лет назад

      +Mike Carter Sounds like the power valve. That's the valve that opens when you step on the throttle to provide additional fuel until the jets can catch up. Without looking it up, I'm pretty sure if you want more fuel into the carb sooner when you step on the gas, you might need a power valve with a larger number. For fine tuning you will use a vacuum gauge to determine the specific power valve you need. Hope that helps.

      .thank you so much for your help, i will work on it with a vacuum gauge .

    sir,can i install the o2 sensor and the gauge in carb engine without install the thing that you installed at 5:28?

    • @TheHorsepowerMonster
      @TheHorsepowerMonster  8 лет назад +1

      +Michael Wong Nope, you have to use it. That's the brains that converts the signal from the O2 sensors into something that the gauge can use. It doesn't have to go on the firewall though. That's just the place that worked best for me.

    • @Mike-xf2rc
      @Mike-xf2rc 8 лет назад

      I see, so what's the name of that brains thing?

      +Michael Wong I think Holley calls it the control module. It all comes in the kit.

    Carburetor? ? Why spend all that money and use a carburetor? Too many good aftermarket EFI units out there. I worked carburetors for 50 years, they are a PITA. The AFR Gauge would have helped.

      Michael Lynch you must not have been very good at it. Give me a carb any day that I can tune with hand tools.

    • @mlynch001
      @mlynch001 6 лет назад +1

      I was damn good at it. Top 10 in the State of Ohio Auto Tech testing in my class. I don't need to prove my ability to you or anyone else. Ran 409's with dual quads for years, AFB, AVS, Quadrajets and HOLLEY's of all kinds. That is why when I grew up I learned about EFI and never looked back. I can tune my EFI with a Laptop, don't need hand tools. You remind me of the dudes I went to school with who screamed that they HATED electronic ignition, they would rather have points, because "You could work on them with hand tools". To each his own, I would rather use EFI for my projects. Is your avatar picture a KZ1000? I worked on more motorcycle carbs than you can shake a stick at. Currently building an EFI Honda CBX.

    So 1 header is ok For that??

    • @TheHorsepowerMonster
      @TheHorsepowerMonster  3 года назад

      It is ok (better than nothing) but definitely not the best. A two-channel meter with sensors in both header collectors would certainly be better. Thanks for watching
