You are correct.
You need to stack your gold & silver, but you need to keep cash on hand, too.
I don't spend my $5s or $1s.
They build up pretty dang fast.

I only use cash in day to day life
Haven't spent a $1 bill in over a year. Have $700 of them. Have $500 in fives. 5 boxes of nickels. And I never take anything from the bank when cashing checks over fifties. If Internet goes out before hyperinflation then the dollar will be king. Most have no clue silvers value as money and most will still seek dollar bills. We had dollar bills before we had power and internet

This is the hardest thing for me to do. I keep money in the bank, but it is a huge temptation to withdraw it and buy gold or silver because even in the bank, I'm losing purchasing power to inflation. Having said all that, yesterday's worldwide comms meltdown was a huge wake up call. Maybe a couple of thousand in new small bills isn't such a bad idea after all...

Your money should be in a high yield savings account. They are free with no fees and they earn 5% interest which keeps up with inflation.

@@mdees88 Yep. That's precisely what my savings account pays. But I think purchasing power is falling at a higher rate. Anyway, the money is sitting there because I realize that I need cash. But it's very difficult to just leave it there.

I have been working real hard at de-dollarizing' buying silver hadn't really thought about stacking some cash, been stacking gasoline diesel propane in case of an outage, have food and water put away already

I recommend that people keep 3 to 6 months worth of cash on-hand outside of the banking system, and at least $2,000 of that should be weighted toward smaller denomination bills (i.e. $1s, $5s, $10s, and $20s) to account for bank and ATM closures. The rest should be kept in $50s & $100s. Anything outside of 6 months really ought to be kept primarily in Gold & Silver, though significant amounts of wealth can and should be held in firearms and ammunition.
