Dyson did a lot of research on miles of different types of hair, and found that heat damage occurs over 302 degrees Fahrenheit. So, if you're using this on the below 302 degrees setting, you're not heat damaging your hair. Plus, because you're not pulling/stretching/snagging your hair, that's also saving your hair from mechanical damage.
If you use this on the above 302 degrees setting, you DO need to use heat protectant on your hair.

Auto turn off is a great thing even if it’s small. My mom would forget to turn hers off sometimes and I would start smelling the hot straightener smell (iykyk) in the house and go check it. Sure enough it was on Every. Single. Time. She could definitely use one with an auto off feature.

I recently got this and for me this is a game changer. I have 2C curly hair and it normally takes FOREVER for my hair to dry. In fact, I rarely blow dry my hair simply because it takes so long. This got my hair flat after 2 or 3 passes with the 235 heat. I was shocked that I could get my head dry that fast. With curly hair you do really want to blow the roots a little extra before you start the passes but its only like 5 seconds per section. The secret to getting it look GOOD is to do one last pass on the cold/cool setting.
This maybe a "single purpose tool" but as someone with curly hair, straightening my hair IS the secondary look that I desperately want but is so hard to get. I have watched 100 tutorials about how to do your own blow out but I might be just awkwards but I cannot get the back of my head. I just can't get it down, so some part is always missed and remains curly. If I want to flat iron my hair I have to dry it which is 30-40 minutes, before I can flat iron it and then I always end up burning myself at least once using the flat iron. But this is so simple and fast, and its nearly impossible to burn yourself on the plates. I hate having curly hair and I love that I now have a tool that makes it stupidly easy for me to use and get done in a fraction of the time than separately blow-drying and flat ironing -- but with better results.

    • @QuixoticAri
      @QuixoticAri Год назад +8

Agreed. I have the exact experience as you. I’ve got low porosity hair that takes forever to dry. I can use the airstraight and get it done in 30 minutes to an hour vs 90 minutes to blow my hair out with a round brush. I don’t get the sexy volume, but by god it’s great on a weeknight for work hair the next morning.

Same, esspecially since I’ve always heard/been under the impression that you still need heat protectant with a blow dryer, so why would this be any different even if the heat setting is lower? I personally use the lowest heat setting I can on any tools including my dyson products with plenty of heat protectant so I fail to see how this claim is true. Personally, this will probably not be a product I add to my collection, I love my Dyson products, but I also have minimally wavy hair and the luxury of being able to air dry my hair most days as a stay at home parent.

@@siera4142while I'm sure heat is never 100% safe for not damaging hair(but neitheris letting it air dry), Hair Dryers typically heat to between 80 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit and Straighteners often work between the range of 250 to 425 Fahrenheit. You can't say they are the same.

I can see where the no damage claim is coming from. Natural hair girls usually keep our flatiron set around 450° so a product that sits around 285 is significantly less damage. When you pair that with a heat protector that's almost no damage. With all of the damage repair products out here you could probably straighten your hair with this and have virtually no damage.

That wet/straight was the best present I ever got my hair was always shiny soft no dead ends I loved it . I do actually still own it but I got ill and could no longer use my hands to hold it so go the hair dresses now once a week. Am really surprised that this tech has only just made a comeback 20 years later but $500 that’s pricey to say the least when the Remington was £70 back in the day .

I’ve owned this Dyson about 3-4 weeks now. I have thick, wavy, Caucasian hair, highlighted. This thing works to eliminate the dryer+flat iron. Here are the challenges…I have a LOT of hair so by the time I’m about 1/3-1/2 done, I feel way very done. It starts to get old fast. I want to throw it down and plug in the regular Dyson and just finish my hair and who cares how it looks. I have decided i just have to practice. So I think I’m keeping it. Brad’s point about the auto on and off feature is true. That is priceless. I’d say it’s likely best for longish thin wavy hair, it doesn’t mean it won’t be good for other hair types, just that it would be best for thinner hair since it won’t take as LONg to get through the entire head. Oh and I use the mid-heat setting.

I have the AirStrait and one of the best features is that it somehow keeps my multitextured (2b/3a) hair from frizzing, even in a very humid coastal area. It seems like it seals the hair shaft from allowing moisture in, but I’m not a hairstylist so that’s just my best guess. Also, after using wet to dry yesterday, I clipped my still warm hair up while I did my makeup. When I took out the clip, my hair fell into really pretty loose waves & it has stayed that way. Next time I’m going to clip it up on both sides to purposely try to create more even loose waves!

You have to work in really small sections and it just takes way too long, took me almost an hour and had to go over it after that on the highest setting to get it straightish. It also didn’t even last a week, and usually my silk presses last up to two weeks, even with me going to the gym.

These kinds of straightners are expensive too! I air dry my hair after washing it,I twist while putting it up in a high top bun & then i put my hair hat on to sleep. Then by morning I have perfect smooth curls!😊

I bought the Dyson AirStraight about 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it! There is nothing else quite like it. I have medium-longish blonde 2c hair (so it frizzes with an "S" curve, not curls or waves). Usually take me over an hour with curlers under a hood dryer or a couple of hours with no dryer. I cannot blow it dry, too much hair and too much frizz and way too much time.
This took my whole head between 20-30 mins to dry it perfectly straight, I was in shock. Also perfect for travel since I can't get straight hair any other way without curlers and hood dryer which are impossible to find. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for certain hair types!

Straghtening the hair is about breaking and reshapping the hydrogen bonds. This happens from temperature 80°C (176F) but it's faster at higher temperature. The hydrogen bonds go back to their original shape with water. What makes your hair strength and shine isn't the hydrogen bonds but the disulfide bonds and proteins. The disulfide bonds get broken at temp above 200°C (400F) and protein loss occurs at temp above 150°C (300F). Since the dyson airstrait from wet to dry doesn't go above 150°C (300F) it should not cause damage. It also doesn't cause mechanical damage (unlike the airwrap).
In comparison, iron plates usually go from 175° to 230°C.

I have the AirStrait and one of the best features is that it somehow keeps my hair from frizzing, even when I’m in a very humid coastal area. It seems like it seals the hair shaft from allowing moisture in, but I’m no hairstylist so that’s just my best guess. Also, after using this on wet hair yesterday, I clipped my hair up while I did my makeup. When I took out the clip, my hair fell into this really pretty loose wave and has stayed that way. Next time I’m going to clip it up on both sides to purposely try to create waves!

This was an enjoyable video to watch. Thank you for your review! Although I have very curly hair, I have the toughest time blowing it dry (I'm just not good at it) and have been looking for a product that is an easy to use all-in-one product. This product looks like it will help with the initial Part I of my routine (instead of my horrible blow drying technique). Part II, I will still be using a fllat iron and hair products (oils) to keep it tame. In the end, no matter how I dry my hair at home, I always have to go over it with a flat iron and hair products to "seal" in the frizz.

It works perfect for my 3c hair going wet to dry, but that’s not actually why I bought it. I’m wearing my hair straight for the next few months and I sweat a lot at the roots and nape. Using a flat iron each week use to leave me with some damage, even on a low setting so I had to start blowing out my roots but it wasn’t as sleek. So far this is has been perfect for a touch up and I think it was 100% worth the purchase.

I rarely straighten my hair and when I do I use a blow dryer then a hot air brush to blow it out. That takes me around a hour. As a former stylist I agree with everything you said. I recently purchased this myself and I shared a review on my channel as well. I found on my hair which is curly that it just made my hair stick straight with absolutely no style. I tried over directing it to create volume and I did get some but it was a lot of work for very little volume. My hair also looked unfinished because you can’t bend ends of the hair. I needed to go in with another tool to finish my hair which in my opinion defeats the purpose of it. I think if you have long layers, or long hair you want stick straight this is great. But if you have layers and you want your hair to look finished this isn't for you. One more complaint is where is the storage case? For $500 this should come with a storage case.

No other tool does it with the low damage and smoothing results of the Dyson. I've watched a ton of tool comparison videos and reviews of it on RUclips and the results are truly unmatched.

I already have a Dyson flat iron, but I knew I was 100% that specific target market for this thing so I bought it immediately when it came out.
    1. I have long straight hair that looks bleh and scraggly if it's not straightened
    2. I am lazy with my hair
    3. I loathe blow dryers so before this I would just air dry for hours and then use a flat iron later
I don't see a reason for an actual hairstylist to have this as a tool. But it's a game changer for me personally and I have used it almost every single day since I got it, hair looks good 10 minutes out of the shower. The airstrait also gives a more "natural" straight look vs the corrale if that makes any sense.
