Beef steak is one of my favorites. I put a pinch of baking soda while cooking to kill the tanginess. This makes it more reminiscent of meat. I sauté with oil and onions and eat on a piece of toast 😋😋😋.
I found this one on an oak tree stump earlier this year in Poland. They are under partial protection here, I left it be. I read it can smell of strawberries which is fascinating for a mushroom! :)
Sir. Any chance we could get a Liberty Cap (psilocybe semilanceata) video, so we know what to, um, avoid. They're in season soon (and indeed have been found already around the country this season) I'd wager it may become your most popular video, and maybe even save lives. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Plenty of chestnut in my area but iv not come across a beafsteak. I was fortunate enough to find a hen of the woods growing at the base of a cluster of them though. Annoyingly iv not seen it reappear during consecutive seasons. I realy want to try some since hearing they make your farts smell like cannabis lol
Hi I picked some horse mushrooms the other day, was going to cook them the next day but when I came to cook them they were absolutely heaving with what looked like tiny maggots, whenstraight in the recycling bin and has put me off mushrooms for awhile. Can you till me is this the norm please, many thank.
To my knowledge it's pretty common in older, moisture (softer) caps, and some mushrooms seem to be more susceptible than others, the same has put me off, although ID'ing younger mushrooms can be more challenging, in my little experience they're less likely to contain critters, so when I can ID with absolute certainty, I go for the younger (harder) caps, and never find anything in them other than a bad attitude ha! You'll get back on the horse, the chemicals in supermarket food will kill you long before the creepy crawlies. Good luck!
Often the case with mushrooms, especially the tasty ones. I found a some parasol mushrooms the other year that were full of em. But i had read that it wont harm you. i was so chuffed to find them, i fried em up anyway and honestly, they was delicious, not sure whether it was the mushrooms or the maggots that tasted good.
Its luck of the draw. Sometimes the infestation is slight enough that you can cut out the infected areas or at the very least salvage a small portion of unnaffected shroom. Some species seem to be more susceptible to maggots than others as well. The younger the specimen the less likely it is to have the flies get to it.
@@WildFoodUK1 thank you for the reply. i can't work it out either i have no sound on other videos that i have watched before with sound. .. i'll keep trying though...rob
I have no idea what you mean. The video clearly shows what the fungus looks like, the habitat it grows on and provides info about it... Surely that's why you're here watching the video right, what more could you want!? :)
In the U.S. we have a polypore called Hapilopilus nidulans that is toxic and has a slight resemblance to a young beefsteak.

this video looks like a frog put it together. how can you look at this and take it as a YT vid?
Seems like a perfectly normal RUclips video to me. Were you expecting end credits and with bonus features for a blu ray collection...
