I've seen this dozens of times and I still get chills! The cameras perfectly captured an incredible performer at the top of his game, and I am so thankful we can all enjoy it forever. Bless you Bo Diddley. Also the footage before this when he cooks chicken backstage, priceless
Wow, that's the ultimate version of an undying classic - so much groove, energy, drive and fun! Bo dances like being 20, and the band is awesome, the bassist is tremendous, and the lead guitar gives great licks. The main riff is just plain a-w-e-s-o-m-e
Saw Bo a year before he passed. His health forced him to sit down for the show, but the Diddley Beat was strong as ever. A true innovator and Godfather of Rock.
But you can’t rock and roll sitting down he just said it himself 😂 Okay but forreals no disrespect meant I’ve just found the dude and fell in love sad to hear he’s no longer here
Well he was partly the originator, Peggy "Lady Bo" Jones was the one who had the bigger hand in creating the famous Bo Diddley Beat he became known for. She played guitar with him back in the 50s.
I saw him at a private concert in 1990. It was the greatest performance of any concert I ever saw and I had the time of my life. I will never forget that night; it was absolutely amazing. RIP, Bo.
In the 50's, when he had many hit single records for Chess (released on Checker Label) he used a Dearmond mechanical tremolo, and a Magnatone amp with real pitch-shifting vibrato. In his late period (as here) he definitely was using some kind of electronic distortion either built into the guitar or the amp. When my old band opened for him in "72 he was using a vintage Magnatone M-35 (solid state!) amp feeding 2 large Fender stacks.
@@GeraldoPMJr I suspect you are right. But he did not use those effects in '72. His sound was the same as in the 50's (my preference by far). I saw him many times in the late 50's - sometimes at Porky Chedwick's (a Pittsburgh DJ) record hops where you could closely observe everything he was doing, and even ask him questions. Porky really pushed his records on the radio.
Big bad Bo, what a man he was! I met him in Notodden,Norway some years ago. He autographed all my ORIGINAL US LPs,he was so Nice n kind. On stage he was a TIGER RIP Bo!!!😀😊☺😥😅
Met Bo at a supper club in ellington ct about 30 years ago, spent 30 minutes in the lounge with him before the show started. we had a table right next to the stage, sang word for word with Bo as he did his act. One of the great moments of my life Miss you Bo
It always amazed me on how far this man got by playing one chord to all His songs, which basically were the same beat and note. God bless him, he couldn’t play lead guitar…always rhythm, kudos to the musicians supporting him.
+LesSmith45 He did a "lean forward" that defied belief I booked him many times and it was as if his shoes were nailed to the floor. As Bo got older he cut back. See my webpage about me and Bo TheMojoMan.com
You were so lucky to have met the man and seen him play live so many times. I was old enough to have seen him (born in 61) but was ignorant of his music during my teen years because of all the classic rock being played. Not until i became a HUGE George Thorogood fan did i realize how great Elias AKA Bo was. George gets ZERO credit for his work. He IMO has kept the old blues greats music alive. He covers almost a 150 great blues players songs. IMO he made those great songs that i never heard better. Better one might ask? Yes because he added a slide guitar and a killer sax and in most cases turned a blues song into a blues/rock song. I envy your past you got to me some of the greatest legends to ever grace the stage. You seen them Raw and Uncut!
Yes Bo was also my friend and I will miss him the rest of my life had I been in Fla. when he passed I would've been to that funeral. Bo had a 70 acre ranch out in the middle of nowhere near Archer,Fla. (Gainesville) His Tombsone is really Yuge as Trump would say and it sits right next to the road in Bronson,Fla. If you ever take a trip to Fla. go thru there and see THAT Tombstone.
Man, Bo had an awesome beat. I didn't know how good he was until watching him on youtube. He is now one of favorites along with Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Blind Owl (Allen Wilson), Ritchie Valens and Amy Winehouse. Thanks for posting.
Bo played the Edison Hotel on Young street for years. Hawkins and the Hawks used to come into watch him, on breaks from the Coq D Or club next door. The Edison had a varied line up, some C&W, some rock and some Motown acts. Jackie Shane was one of the drop ins. JimB.
The female bass player (Debby Hastings) was with him for almost 25 years (including at the concert when he had his stroke) and was actually appointed his musical director 5 years after this performance here, so I imagine they played this the way they felt like playing it that particular day with Bo's full cooperation and prior knowledge. I do love the original version though, no doubt!

geekpie100 0 seconds ago People say, "Bo Diddley, one of the greats", "I always respected Bo Diddley", but it's odd how things change. I saw Bo Diddley twice in quick succession, June 1982 and March 1983, in the Fforde Grene pub (now knocked down) in Harehills, a poor suburb of Leeds. Ticket at the door, on neither occasion was it even half full. Why was Bo Diddley spending most of his life playing draughty boozers in the north of England in 1982 / 1983? I have no idea. Britain was riding the crest of new wave / new romantic, nobody was interested in old blues fellers for those few years. But maybe he was still treated better than he was in America.
Surely during his live performances at Bo Diddley he would let out some farts when he kicked around the stage dancing like crazy in front of the audience while playing his legendary guitar which went down in rock & roll history.
I remember watching a Legends of Rock show where the headline act was Jerry Lee Lewis, unfortunately it was clear that he didn't want to be there but Bo Diddley stole the show.
The guy on the strat and the bass player were killing it. And Bo Diddley.... Just incredible.
Lord, Almighty the bass player and drummer are LOCKED IN!

Saw him at 3rd Street Live in Cedar Rapids. We talked about his in 1969 at the Chicago Theatre. I was honored to have 15 minutes with him.
I love the never ending clean guitar solo. So good, I think they're still playing that solo.
The power of rock'n'roll pure, we will never forget you

Bo was a former boxer I heard, so he had some moves before he became Bo. Is that true?
I watched Bo Diddley burn a hole in the stage at NYC's Danceteria. Good-god-a mighty!

My favourites too
Bo only sang one verse from the song but that was enough. The rest just rocked the house down.
"Hey Bo, how much chorus you wanna use?"...."Yes"
I think It has a phaser too
Lmao
Needs to sound as wild as it looks
All of it!
It's not chorus, it's something like phaser
Once that beat is in your head, you have to wrap a support stocking around to stop it from gettin' out!
Bo was the Man,he had no equal.
Mo Diddley comes close, but...
Bo has a ragged guitar made out of a box and the rest of the band is super smooth with the newest instruments.
ruclips.net/video/Z6-bAJoGlos/видео.html And he had custom made Gretsch guitars even in the 1960s.
Saw Bo at the 100 club Oxford St. (London) around 64/65 with Jerome and The Duchess. WOW!
Did any entertainer alive ever have more charisma than Bo Diddley? I surely don't think so.
Yup--Eric Burdon who was inspired by him & also honored him at Bo's funeral with the song Bo Didley Special.
