I've installed Gamma OS on mine and it makes a big difference. As far as Gamecube emulation is concerned, you'll want to install the Dolphin MMJR emulator and dig around in the settings for each game - Luigi's Mansion for example runs fine using the OpenGL renderer but has these visual bugs you described when using the Vulkan renderer instead. Some GC titles require an underclock, some prefer an overclock of the emulated CPU - there's a lot of games that will run great if you put in a little bit of effort and find the right settings for the titles you'll want to play.

@@earlcrisostomo185 I've had mine since summer and absolutely no screen popping issue whatsoever. BUT my R1 switch recently died, so I asked for a replacement board - and as it turns out, they changed the switches for the shoulder buttons on a new revision of their motherboard, so they should be way less prone to failure now. If I were you I'd ask Anbernic support if all units they sell nowadays use the "RG405M MB V0.1B" motherboard, and if you can return it in case you've gotten an older one.
To find out which one you've got, open the back panel by unscrewing the four hex screws, lift up the panel and look at either the number on the motherboard on the left hand side of the device (where the R1/R2 buttons are) OR check the color of the shoulder buttons' microswitches. The old motherboard's switches are tiny and white, the new ones are a fair bit beefier and black with blue stems. If they're black, great, close it back up and install GammaOS right away (if you want to that is, to each their own), if not, close it back up and ask them if you can swap the handheld for a new one because the white ones apparently are a common point of failure - and you don't want them to crap out anytime soon. Hope that helps!
EDIT: other than that I'm insanely happy with the thing, so much so that I'm willing to put up with replacing my faulty switch/motherboard. As long as you've gotten the device from an official Anbernic store, their support is actually very helpful.
@@lostintheinternet2814 its been doing well so far, everything is intact and working fine, only complain is the buttons tend to scrape a bit cause its metal shell but other than that its well built device👌

How does SSX3 play on it? GC or PS2 version?
I have been hearing that Gamma OS fixes many of the performance issues with Gamecube or PS2. The problem is that you need to wipe the device and re do all of the apps. I was too lazy to do all of that.
What’s the difference between Gamma OS and Garlic OS?

@turnbasedtoddy7664 I have GarlicOS on my micro SD card and it's working fine you can booted from the micro sd card but you'll need to install the apk on your rg405m rg405v or Retroid Pocket 2+ but the 2+ is really hard to boot into the GarlicOS as there's no back/home button like rg405m and rg405v also it'll not erase or wipe the Android system inside rg405m and rg405v no it'll boot strings from micro sd card.
Gamma OS was said to make it better since it uses RP3 plus' custom drivers.
I've got the RG353M and love the form factor and premium feel. If I didn't already have the 353M, this video might just be enough to convince me to pick up the 405M. Great video!

This is the one to go for all 4:3 games. I also have the 35xx plus, Retroid 2S plus, Retroid 4 Pro and a Steam Deck. For older games I always go back to this. If you don’t have a Steam Deck maybe one of the Odins will suit you more, but even then they don’t do 4:3 games justice with the black bars, plus they completely ignore the small form factor that these smaller 4:3 handhelds provide. I am now settled with 405M for 4:3 and Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for 16:9 titles up to PS2. Probably won’t change this setup unless there is a 4:3 OLED which can play PS2/GC, and a widescreenn 16:9 one which can play PS3 and 360 games, also preferably OLED, or PS portal with the PS5 if it is an exclusive. I seldom whip out my XBox Series X but if I want to play multiplayer games with my girlfriend in the same room (Palworld 😂) I would use it.
Ive been enjoying romhacks on my handhelds over the years. Never really experimented with many mario 64 hacks tho. Which ones are worth it?

My main goal for this was to play Sonic Adventure 2 and Amazing! Amazing! It's just fantastic! Looking into finding out how to had Smash Remix and how to customize the controls to my liking.
You should try upgrading software with Gamma OS. My 405m should be here any day now and from all the good things I've heard about Gamma, I gotta set that up asap.
What exactly is gamma? Getting this for my hunting stand to pass some time and dk anything abt it mainly wanting to play Mario Zelda and resident evil. What upgrades can I do to it and do I need to do any at all?
@@BoogaGoon Gamma OS is a custom firmware that fixes quite a few things, stuff like the oversharpening of the stock os, retroarch is preconfigured for most systems, it has Daijisho frontend preinstalled, offers different performance modes (normal, max perfomance, battery saver) that you can switch between on the fly, and probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head. It's well worth setting up in my opinion, but installing Gamma OS can be a bit daunting and scary. what's up buddy? From what I understand, you know a lot about Wii U. My question is the following, I searched, I looked and I couldn't find the translation and dubbing of Batman Arkhran Origins for Wii U, here in Brazil it released the dubbing and translation in Portuguese for all other platforms, only for Wii U which didn't , would there be a mod to put the dubbing and subtitles in Portuguese on the Wii U?

I am a person that hate pre installed roms. I like to get my own and have my own Sd card. I usually will get a few games with alot gonna be just rom hacks. I got my Retroid pocket 2+ and I enjoy playing that thing.

I love the rg405m, but it really needs the boot loader unlocked and Gamma installed, then its perfect. Stock OS is pretty terrible.

Man i would love one like this but 6 face buttons instead of 4. Keep it the same size and layout as the face buttons, just two more.
Maybe in the Miyoo Mini configuration with just one analog stick by the dpad.
That would for work well with PSP, Dreamcast, & N64
damn I've been looking for a handheld to play gamecube twin snakes and when you said about this not being great with gamecube, ugh, cry!
As someone who spent $200 on Amazon to pick one of these up, I implore you, invest in an Odin Lite or something else instead. Roughly the same price, and you're playing just about every PS2 and Gamecube game at full speed, and acing everything else, with a battery that lasts ages. Anbernic QC issues aside, you're paying a lot for not so much other than pretty buttons; myself, I think those analog sticks are WAY too sunk in, I was pretty over it quickly. Very much the same story with the RG552. And those shoulder buttons blow imo :( Odin Lite screen is also obviously superior for PSP as well.
Some ppl like myself value portability the most. This fits in your pocket and hits most of the marks. With that being said I will be getting an Odin 2 max after having an Odin Pro
I add that this size is perfect and the body is made of metal. For sure odin is more powerfull but I have this one and I love it.
How you feel about the RG405v it's like a Gameboy with analog sticks
@@3dtheking Power's fine but it looks a bit chunky for my tastes, and I feel weird playing widescreen stuff with that where I don't have the same hang-ups playing 4:3 content on a widescreen
Well the screen aspect and resolution on the RG405M matches older games perfectly with integer scaling. All of those widescreen systems stretch and butcher old game graphics with uneven pixels and filtering. Plus the widescreen makes the unit bigger just to add unused space on the sides of the game screen. The 405 gives you the biggest 4:3 image you can get in a small case size.

If you want free lessons I'm sure there's some good youtube channels out there. I personally took courses at my university. But if you don't mind spending a little money and have the motivation to study I recommend buying an entry level textbook like "Genki" and starting from there

@@supersambams After watching all of these different retro devices I got a refurbished steam deck you might want to consider it am able to play up to Gamecube era games with no issues but takes a little work to get going and I heard it can play switch games easily if you know what your doing
honestly the steam deck feels too big to feel like a great portable. Also not a fan of the screen
Yeah one of the reasons why I haven't bit the bullet and purchased a steam deck is because I prefer smaller handhelds. The main reason why I find the RG405M so impressive because it is quite powerful despite its small size.@@SenpaiMD

YabaSanshiro. It's not perfect, but BeetleSaturn is too resource heavy for the T618.

Run ps2 games in gamma os
İ'm still fully convinced that the Steam Deck kills all emulation machines without being an emulation machine. Emulating everything up to ps3/Switch is insane
(unless you want a way smaller device)
I have a Steam Deck, yet I still got Miyoo Mini plus. Tre reason why is it I'm out doing whatever I don't want to bring something with me so big, and sometimes it draws too much attention and I feel a nerd or something in public.

The Odin 2 is great and I will get one when they actually ship next year. Ayn sucks at hitting release dates. Until then the RG405M is portable and is out now.
Get gamma os it makes playing android games a lot better never liked gaming on my phone . All the ff remakes and deadcells list goes on .
