Gamma OS fixed the sharpening, the trigger mapping, and added performance/battery saving modes. Also with a 480p screen it will run games better than RP3+ - will still need PAL roms and MMJR/Dolphin for Handheld builds though.

Enjoyed this review and comparison to the RP3+. But with the exception of the left analog stick placement, I still prefer the RP3+ overall. The sweet spot for T618 SoC gaming is PSP and widescreen Dreamcast/N64 on a 16:9 screen. The plastic shell virtually eliminates noticeable heat, while the stacked triggers feel much more ergonomic. Add the flawless stream gaming support and you have a clear winner IMHO.
I would bet that the 405P is coming soon. I mean they're probably not done with the T618.
Completely agree with this. 3+ is more comfortable to hold (especially with the grips!) and the shoulder buttons on the Anbernic are just nowhere near as good. I inadvertently hit L1/R1 when I'm reaching for L2/R2 and I hate it. I've done it so many times in fast paced games that I'm considering getting rid of it, which makes me sad since I like everything else about it. The 3+ still reigns in the ergonomics arena.
Honestly lad, my RP3+ Metal edition just did a mic drop on Anbernic's rg405m. Just as premium with shoulder buttons that work mate. Nice critique. Very honest, which in this world, is appreciated young lad.

@@ChronikSpartan I've been gaming since 1977 when I was 15. It's been a freaking amazing journey through EVERY platform generation, coin-op to console to handheld happiness. How fun is that lad? To be able to play most, if not all those archaic and historic systems on a bloody handheld would have absolutely blown my 15 year old mind (probably to the point that hospitalization would have been required). I'm glad retro channels exist to keep the gaming history alive for the next generation man.
Looks very nice. I'll probably pick up their next iteration. They'll probably do a plastic shell and might use a 3:2 or 16:9 screen. I agree that it would be best to let us choose whether we want asymmetric joysticks or a more classic layout.
Rg505m is the plastic shell, this kind of is the next iteration. Unless you mean another one
@@TheAwesomeness1123 Wait they made an RG505M? Is the design better than the original RG505? Because that thing was a janky mess. I didn't like the screen resolution or the fat bezels. Just the general layout looked ugly to me.
Besides, the Vita screen it used was 16:9 and 5 inches. I'm hoping for a 3:2, 4.5inch screen.
Can you confirm one thing about the RG405M? My unit has a very metallic sound when pressing the left should buttons, the right shoulder buttons have a normal sound. I read on the web some people saying the same thing, just don´t know if it´s will all the units or just with a specific production batch
My issue is Android. I’m not a fan of Android as a retro gaming platform. More effort is put into Linux by enthusiasts. There is more choice and generally a better experience. There is no Linux distro for this chipset to even start from so it’s very unlikely we’ll ever see that as an option. I’ll wait for the next one.

Yeah, that's part of the reason I don't use my Shield TV which I bought for retro gaming. Android adds an extra layer of bullshit to getting stuff to work. But the Shield is even worse because AndroidTV filters the shit out of the play store so most apps aren't available. Very frustrating. Became not worth it for me to use.
On the flip-side, performance is usually better on Android. Not entirely sure why, if it's just kernel or driver optimizations or what, but generally when there's a choice for an SBC or handheld or similar, there's higher FPS on those boarder-line emulated devices, it seems.
That's one thing that is cool about a competitor to this, the RP3+. It auto-loads a game-oriented launcher and accesses the ROMs off your SD, so it's very easy to use despite being Android.
My answer is no. the hardware, specifically the shoulder buttons are not fit for purpose and break easily. The power is there for sure but you can clearly tell they cut some corners to keep cost down. For similar money you can get an ayn odin which is much better imo
Mine came in with 2SD cards one had like 8,000 games and the se card that was in the unit only came in with like 66 games? Is that normal? Can you also do a video on how to add games to the unit? I’m a noob lol thanks for this video
One SD is for the firmware, the other is purely for games. To add roms just copy them into the folders on the bigger sd card
May I know what type of charger is best to use with the 405m?
I'll save you the trouble of watching this video. Do not buy the RG405M. It has known issues with the shoulder buttons breaking down and the screen requiring a replacement within a few short months. Also, avoid LITNXT at all costs.
if only the screen wasnt so bad..the color saturation and contrast really make me want to put it down after a few minutes cause it just looks bad. the 505 has an oled screen..great! but the device is so chunky and feels cheap cause it's plastic. if there was something in between i would throw my money at them. now i dont know if i should get the rp3+ instead cause people say it feels cheap and the buttons are bad. the ayn devices are expensive and too big. i just dont know what to do..
streaming to a 4:3 screen? seem suboptimal at best considering the size of the screen, plus lack of analog triggers? i can't imagine a worse combo for streaming.

I don't get the issue people have with it. It's main function is a retro handheld I don't even think on their website they advertise this machine as a game stream device at all.
Their trailer advertises Android and Moonlight Streaming which shows it's designed as more than just a retro handheld

This looks pretty cool, but the PSP and Vita still satisfies my handheld needs. I don’t know where to start if I decided to jump into emulation handhelds, there are too many to choose from haha.
Yeah the OG PlayStation handhelds are still up their. Especially playing their native games, unbeatable.
You're right though, there are far too many to consider these days. From a PSP emulation perspective I think there RG505 is my favourite option considering it's great screen.

Yes, I'll be keeping my Vita until there's a trully PS2 capable (and pocketable) handheld. I also have a RG35XX for PS1 and lower and love it
When it comes to Xbox game passes I know that a lot of people are complaining about shoulder buttons that have not been registered and I see that's true because Anbernic are not focusing on shoulder buttons when it comes to streaming services like Xbox X Cloud but with Steam Link the shoulder buttons should not have any problems or issues in my theory I guess rg405m will be the best handheld for streaming I'm willing to use it as for my retro purpose and streaming services like Steam Link and ps play service to play my favourite ps4 and ps5 games.

Absolutely if your gaming requirements don't include Game Pass then this is the best handheld in this price range!
Yeah as for retro gamers like me and tech enthusiastic, I found that rg405m will be a perfect handheld for native Android games emulation and streaming although I can stream some services like Steam Link and PlayStation Now it'll be great for these stuff can't wait until I got my hands on Anbernic rg405m and I'm dying to make videos about it.
From my understanding, Gamma OS fixes the should button issue along with doing some optimizations which brings NGC/PS2 performance up to the standard of the updated RP3+.
Does this play 3DS games? Like Fire Emblem and Pokémon?

The RP3+ has worse buttons, a worse screen format, and poorer build quality. I have the RP3+ and a number of other handhelds and it’s the one I use the least. If all you want is PSP/Vita, I can see the appeal, but for anything else… not for me.
@Cujobob dude the rp3+ has a Higher screen resolution, ya it may not have the aluminum feel of the ambernic but it runs faster and plays games more seamlessly. Unless I got a faulty anbernic 405m I don't see how you can honestly say it's better. It struggles to even play half the games my rp3+ plays perfectly.
@@NoG-Inc. You probably have to tweak some settings. The RP3+ got some nice improvements in a recent OTA patch, but it also had number of issues with performance.
I'm likely sticking with Linux based handhelds only from this point on until Emulation Station comes to Android. These custom linux OS' get the settings tweaked really well and make it a much more enjoyable experience.
@Cujobob I totally agree! I mainly use the rp3+ for my small GameCube and streaming from my pc. I liked the anbernic 405m I have multiple of their other devices. But the rp3 is alot weaker then my modded psvita. But it also seems to beat my ayn Odin pro. Which is kinda of odd
I have no complaints about my 405m. It's tiny, it cramped my hands while I took 20 heads at once in chivalry 2 last night. But I really do love it.
I really really do love my 405m. My 353m is now mummified its its box in the closet.
I cant play without propper ergonomics anymore. I used to have a gb advance sp and a psp and always had problems with cramps. Now I use an adaptor for my phone to get handles like a ps4 controller an no longer suffer pains.
@DaleonM4 this thing takes me to cramp city. I try to fight through it though. It still atleast has Bluetooth controller support

@steelzepplin2012 the opera browser is what I use to play gamepass on the 405. I will say I think my R2 and R1 buttons are losing sensation, from me chopping so many heads. That's something to be cautious about with this device!! ⚠️ ⚠️
