Backyard Renovation Part 6: Laying New Sod

- All the hard work has led up to this day! Everything is prepped and the new sod has arrived, so it's time to install it. This is a fescue grass that will stay green all year round. Everybody is happy with the final result, especially the dogs! There are still more projects for the backyard, such as a greenhouse, shed, string lights, chicken coop, and garden, but for now I'm going to focus on the workshop and get back to building things in there. Enjoy!

look into a water feature. the nature it brings is fenomenal
In the 15 years I spent landscaping, I've laid hundreds of thousands of square feet of sod and I will say that you did a great job. We never had anything fancy like a fork lift though. Every single sod was cut and then lifted into the truck then removed from the truck and put in place.
Doing that every day for 15 years will make you VERY strong.

What are your thoughts on using fake grass? I'm pretty allergic to most grass that are sold commercially for landscaping, tired of hives breaking out whenever i walk in grass
I looked into it and would have used it if it wasn’t ghastly expensive. For our yard it would have cost more than a Tesla

you should get some sand and top dress the sod to help fill in between the cracks and keep everything level. it will also help encourage the sod to fill in

Puppy count... a corgi, 2 different bulldogs ( at least 1 frenchie), a big chocolate lab.... what’s the adorable tan one of unknown origins? Lol recently subbed, loving this content and the furry photo bombers. I have 2 big “technical difficulties” myself lol

Is sod an American term? It means something rather different in British English! We call this turf, which I thought was universal...

Why didn't you do a drip irrigation below the sod? It is so much more water efficiënt and you won't have the spray over the grass so you can even stand on it when watering. Ofc you have to water it manually then when new sod is applied but after that drip is so much more nice.

So thats what sod is. I always thought its just something you say like 'sod off!'
Sod (soede) is just broadly ‘Germanic’ for turf - grass plus some soil.
The sod in ‘sod off’, ‘sod it’, ‘sod that’ and so on is just a swear word originating from the term sodomy.
Are you planning on painting the concrete fence?

I imagine keeping the dogs off the lawn for 2-4 weeks is basically impossible for them.

I’ve seen a few lawn aficionados recommend adding a drip line along cement borders... the cement gets really hot and stresses that grass touching it... some extra water helps a ton
