      @@susihormon7821 Sure VW still produces a lot of fossil cars (much more than 80%). But anyone in VW knows the transistion is in progress and accelerating fast and fossil fuels have no future in the car industry. Not all companies have fully embraced this idea yet as much as VW is doing it.

      @@EverydayRoadster So what. Ever heard of always doing the same mistake? Sorry, i never saw a chart where he shows the measures of kWh from the chargers compared to what the cars shows.
      The biggest problem is that in the tesla bubble you have to believe what elon tells you. There is no display in the SuC or a counter to control. Tesla is hidding lots of infos and does it on purpose.

      @@jfolz I saw a full charging session of the id.4. the charger showed 82 kWh, but there is only 77 kWh usable. It could be the heater running for one hour. We have to watch if the carmakers show those heating lost, when the tms kicks in without any user control.

    Here in the U.K., that cost per kWh (165 NOK) equates to 14pence so basing my calcs on 3 miles per kWh, 10,000 miles would require 3,333 kwhs of energy in a typical year, that’s £465 per annum, assuming you charged on ionity all the time, which most private owners won’t. The range and top-up speeds make this a practical and attractive alternative.

    regarding the heat pump issues there is a very good video from nextmove (in German, but I think they do subtitles) and they show that the Id3 WITH heat pump has a higher consumption than one without. so it’s obvious they have not gotten to that bit of the software (as spring and summer are coming, I guess thats good prioritization). currently it only runs to dry the air but does not extract any heat, so it runs in addition to the normal resistive heater.

I'm really not keen on the Tesla Tax (like iphone tax) where you pay for the top of the line/design. especially when i don't completely agree on many of the design choices of their cars. (I'm not a minimalist, so really dont like the deal with having to use the screen for everything. i like dedicated buttons for and i dont like being a betatester of software controlling essential functions of a vehicle going at motorway speeds.

    Late to the VW party as ruled them out due to dodgy software and interiors, but giving the facelifts serious consideration.
    Really intrigued by your top buffer calculation, which shows same top buffer size as my e-Niro... but I understand these cars degrade capacity while the Niro still has is 64kWh useable after over 3 years. Why are the VWs degrading range? Do they not sacrifice top buffer, or is it theore aggressive charging curve? Or something else? You've not done a degradation test on an old Niro - maybe because they don't? Biggest flaw with Id4 is rear headroom. I had to cancel my order just because none of us men in our family (me and my two teenage boys) who are about 1,90 m long can fit in the rear seat without scrubbing our heads against the roof. Who was all that rear legroom meant for? People with really long legs and dwarfed torsos?

    Why the battery in evs are not isolated. I mean for cooling, there is a coolant, anyway, and what is the effectiveness of air-cooling in summer anyway. But heating it results more energy storage. So isolated battery should be more efficient? What do you think guys.

      What are your needs vs what are your wants. Me I chose the ID.4. The AWD model of the ID.4 costs less than a AWD model Y. The boxy shape of the ID.4 means I can fit more stuff in the back. There as many CCS charger locations as there are super charger locations. Also the in the summer the ID.4 should be able to make it to the lake and back on 1 charge. In other words the ID.4 does everything I need it do and costs less than a Model Y.

    • @pompiuses
      @pompiuses 3 года назад

      The European Model Y will come with the new battery pack (4860). This will probably mean about 30% range increase compared to now, and much higher charging speeds. The only thing the European brands can beat it at is better driving comfort.

      @@e-redj The 4860 has significantly different design features and in addition the physical size of the cells allows more power storage in a smaller pack as they are more space efficient. Then you add the size reductions (or capacity increases) associated with the new structural pack design that's planned and we should be expecting a very noticeable improvement over the 2170 packs. IMHO 100kWh may well be on the cards for the Model Y.

    • @pompiuses
      @pompiuses 3 года назад

      @@e-redj According to Tesla on battery day the 4680 cells plus structural battery pack will give a 54% increase in range.
      For comparison the current Model S Long Range has 663km range according to Tesla. The new Model S Plaid+ with the 4680 cells plus structural battery pack has 837km of range. That's a 26% increase. The new Long Range edition will probably have closer to 30% increase. Also the new Model S is almost 200kg lighter than the old model using the new pack.
      The new battery pack is a big deal. I expect the Model Y to do a complete knockout in terms of range and charging speed to all its closest competitors.
